Limits on private message use?

Post by Starion »

Hi Luke,

Do you and the moderators still want people to limit the use of private messages? Or has the restriction been lifted? Just wondering. I remember that someone mentioned that PMs use a lot of bandwidth.

I only send a few PMs per month; I'm not going to send many messages to many users.

Regards,

E-mail is definitely the preferred route to use in communicating with other forum members. A few PMs per month sounds fine, but when people are sending out dozens of PMs a day deciding on what to vote off for survivor alliances, that is not use, it is abuse and they would be encouraged to take it to e-mail. Besides, if someone doesn't have their e-mail address public, it takes just one PM to ask them for it.

So, in short, moderation in usage still applies, but the convenience is still there for the time being.

The thing about that Luke is when I click on the link under your post for your e-mail, it doesn't actually show your e-mail address. Instead it takes me to a page where you have to log in or here at school it says "Could not perform this opperation because the default mail client is not installed."

It does the same when I click on my own e-mail link on the bottom of my posts. So I don't know what's going on and I'm well aware that the school computers do have restrictions and what not.

^Clicking that link will take you to the default email application on your computer and pre-format the email for you. If you don't have one of those set up, then you can just right-click the "email" button and choose "copy this email address."

Thanks Aaron,

But I don't think we're aloud to do that on the school computers because it doesn't have that "copy e-mail address" option. ;)

Ok, never mind it's "copy short-cut," Ha! ha!
