I saw the LATT "coming soon" placard in the doorway of WalMart, but didn't take the time to see a description of the contents . I found mention of the CD on WalMart's web site, but no details were offered.
I remember watching a special on the Disney Channel long ago that had behind the scenes for LATT -- I'm pretty sure it was a portion of a black and white Disneyland program... "The Story of Dogs?" It showed Peggy Lee singing/recording "He's a Tramp" and the male background singers were portraying the dogs chorus at the pound.... Thurl Ravenscroft was one of those singers: he was the voice of Tony the Tiger, did voice work for Disney theme parks, and much more. He died last year in May. Check out http://members.aol.com/allthurl/thurl2.htm for more on him.
Luke, did the scene I've described indeed appear on "The Story of Dogs," and if so, did it make it onto this DVD? I sure hope so!

In his excellent DVD review, Luke wrote:"Cavalcade of Song" (February 16, 1955) (21:38 ) focuses on the music of Lady and the Tramp, featuring another abbreviated story run-through by Penner, a fictionalized take of Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke's collaborative creation of the "Siamese Cat Song", highlights of other songs from the film, and a performance of "He's a Tramp" by Lee and company in real life and animated forms. Though somewhat staged and simplified, these two excerpts compellingly foreshadow the types of featurettes that are commonplace on today's
animated DVDs. This, coupled with their old-fashioned charms, easily distinguish them as two of the best bonuses included on the set. Also featured in between the two is a 3-minute black & white preview of "Story of Dogs" from the ending minutes of the previous week's episode.
Although this release does seem a little light-weight, it seems to be more of a case of quality over quantity like the Bambi DVD (though this release will get major points deducted by me for no commentary or Walt's Story Meetings feature). It's good to see that the games this time around are of quality. I so would've preferred a CGI set-top game on Cinderella's DVD over the ESPN and House of Royalty crap. This is the second or third time I've read in a DVD review that Lady and the Tramp has the best restoration of any Walt-era film. I was completely blown away by Cinderella's since it didn't have any print flaws (Snow White), digital artifacts (Alice in Wonderland), or flickering (Sleeping Beauty). I guess Lady and the Tramp benefits over Cinderella thanks to the anamorphic picture, so I'm really eager to see this on my display.

I can't say for certain in either case, but I think it's fairly certain that Wal-Mart's package will have the slip-cover and that Best Buy will have something as a bonus for buying LatT (probably a plush).
gannoum wrote:Well, what I want to know is if the Walmart edition (with the cd) will also come with the slipcover, because, if it don't, I won't be buying there...
As unnecessary as the damn piece of cardboard is, all initial copies (including any bundled with something) will have the slipcover. It'll most likely be harder to find six months to a year from now.

The slipcover is important in one sense that since all my PE's have one, except Snow White of course, then you need the slipcover to have a better more complete collection.
ichabod wrote:Well my 1980s VHS also has Aunt Sarah singing "Rock a bye Baby", but Yes this part of the soundtrack is COMPLETELY MISSING from the new DVD!
My new UK DVD has that out-of-tune singing (chapter 8, ca. 31:20 from the beginning of the movie). Is that song really missing from the R1 release?
I still need to go to the mall to preorder the dvd from the Disney Store. I want the 4 lithos, 2 plush, & pin.
I don't watch television very often, but the other day I was watching Cartoon Network, and, during the commercials, I heard a loud belch. I looked at the tv and it was the bulldog in a LatT dvd trailer. As far as I can remember, that dog never burped in the actual film. It made me really angry. When I was a kid, I didn't find burp jokes to be funny at all. They're gross, somewhat offensive, and distracting to the movie. Who actually DOES find them funny? 8-year-old boys??
Hi brownie, you can't preorder The Lady and The Tramp from a retail store. You need to preorder it online from disneystore.com. I think you can also mail a check and an order form to the Disney Store, but I'm not sure.
Hey guys, thanks for all your answers! And, about the slipcover... I just want it because Brazil never receives them... so it will stand out on my shelf! And... February 28 is coming!!! Yeah!!

Also the DVD was featured on The Price is Right today and yesterday. Today it was during the Punch a Bunch game where the contestant had to guess if the right price was higher or lower than what price was shown to them. I can't remember what game it was used for during yesterday's show.
After reading the reviews, I want The Lady and The Tramp even more. I haven't seen the movie before. The characters look cute and the plot sounds interesting. I want to see how Lady and Tramp meet. I also want to see what kind of trouble Si and Am cause. lol
I saw a 30 second commercial for Lady and The Tramp on CNN. Cool!

Go figure... Nice to see Lady and the Tramp recieving some warm reviews. After the disgrace that was Cinderella's Platinum release my expectations were greatly lowered. It's good to see the Platinum line is back on track.
"See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve." - The Joker
I'm actually kind of excited for this release. It's another "Walt Disney Classic", in the Platinum Line (it's even better now that I have all of them), the plushies, the giga pet type game, dvd insider, and last but not least - the movie itself. I've never seen it, I missed it when I was a child (along with many other Disney movies) so I'm looking VERY forward to this release on Tuesday. I think I'm going have to find time on Thursday night to watch it since I can't watch it on Friday afternoon.
In about 20 hours... I'll be headed to the Disney Store.
In about 21 hours... the wait will be over, and I'll be sitting down to watch Lady and the Tramp.
So close, and yet... so very, very far.
Thanks to all that offered to help with my Avatar...Starion, RJKD23 and cj!
Just got back from Best Buy with my copy and the Tramp plush. The plush is nice, and its nice to finally have Lady and the Tramp in my DVD collection. The only thing I'm a little disappointed in is the slipcover. Slipcovers are not a must have thing for me, but I really liked the old slipcovers for the Platinum line that opened like a book. This one is just a copy of the cover.
Anyway I plan to watch the movie tonight when I have some free time. This will be the first time I have ever seen the widescreen version of the film. Can't wait.
