Random Disney World Questions...

Post by daflobber »

We're heading to Orlando tomorrow for a Disney vacation and I have a couple last minute questions...

My 2 1/2 year old daughter is absolutely crazy about Brother Bear. She keeps talking about going to "Mickey's House" and also going to "Brother Bear's House". I have not found any reference to any Brother Bear tie in rides attractions or spots that have a Brother Bear theme in or around Disney World. Can anyone help me find anything that references the movie. Does the Animal Kingdom have real bears maybe? Anything that can be stretched into a "Brother Bear's House" to a 2 year old?

2nd question is about strollers. How much are they to rent at the parks? I've heard that it's worth it to rent one at the park instead of using your own because you can't take the stroller on the trains but if you rent one you just drop it at your departure station and pick up a new one at the arriving station. We have a nice stroller with a large basket for a backpack and storage and a sun shield. Are the rentals similarly equipped?

Thanks for your replies!

AFAIK, there's really no true Brother Bear attraction. I haven't been to Animal Kingdom in awhile (I only went once during my program, and even then it was only half a day), so they might have bears, but don't take my word for it. If your daughter doesn't mind seeing a few other bears besides Kenai and Koda, there's Bear in the Big Blue House at Disney-MGM Studios, and of course, Winnie the Pooh in the Magic Kingdom. Pooh and friends are part of the character breakfast/lunch/dinner at the Crystal Palace, though I personally wouldn't go (from what I've heard, because it's all glass, the noise is projected really loudly and the food is only so-so).

As for strollers, do yourself a favor and don't bring any, not even your own. If you bring your own, you're liable to either lose it, or have trouble finding it in stroller parking. Guests like to put strollers in stroller parking in any messed-up form, so when castmembers organize it (which they'll do to keep good show), guests get mad when they can't find their strollers, and sometimes just take any and run off. Also, it's too much of a pain to load nearly everything but the kid in a stroller and have to push it around the very large parks. If it's absolutely necessary for your child to be in a stroller, then take it, otherwise let her walk and run around, or carry her if you'd like. I don't remember how much it is to rent, but you do get some money back when you return it.

If you're going to be packing for an expedition of the parks (ie backpacks filled to the brim), think about what you really need:

1. Suntan lotion (mainly during the summer, anytime else it's not really necessary, so disregard it right now)
2. Bottles of Water (water is $2.00 for the large or $1.25 for the standard. You can just go to Walgreens or somewhere nearby and buy a dozen for that price)
3. A couple snacks (a bag of chips in the park is $2.50, so unless you want to live off popcorn and ice cream, bring your own snacks)
4. Spare change of clothes for kids (in case they have accidents, or if they decide to jump into the water fountains, which they will do)
5. Umbrella or rain gear (I prefer umbrellas)

Other than that, there's not much you really need. To get around the park they provide maps and times guides, and unless you plan on spending the night in the park, you don't really need to bring a heavy backpack filled with things like books, toiletries, etc. Many a family vacations are hindered by backpacks filled with everything but the kitchen sink that end up not being used anyway.

well u can meet Kenai & Koda from Brother Bear in Camp-Minnie-Mickey @ DAK, or in the Canada Pavillion @ Epcot. Not much merchandise for these guys-except for the little bit in Canada Pavillion, and the big toy store Once Upon A Toy in DownTown Disneys Marketplace.

As for Strollers- they are a same day fee- and u can keep the receipt the CMs give u that looks like a voucher and take it from park to park in the same day without paying more then once for stoller rental the same day
.
The strollers have pouches on the back-they dont hold too much. if you prefer to use your own-that is fine....but if you would rather rent a Disney stroller- they will hold your personal stroller at the rental building.

When u return the receipt/stroller at the end of the day when you know you wont be needing a stroller in any of the other theme-parks then you will get a Disney Dollar- it's a dollar that you can use all over property for food/services/souveneirs/ect or keep it as a souvenier. They can also be used at other Disney theme parks, cruise line, and the Disney Store.

i would say that you could tell her that they live in the woods surrounding walt disney world, and that you can't get to their house... other than that i'd just take her to meet them at the places Fidget1234 suggested.

Stroller Rentals
For your convenience, strollers are available for rent. Quantities are limited and subject to availability. The stroller rental fee is $10.00 per day* for a single-passenger stroller and $18.00 per day for a double-passenger stroller**.

For Guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Single-passenger strollers are available for $8.00* per day and double-passenger strollers** for $16.00 per day. Upon visiting a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location and you will be expedited through the queue with little or no wait time.

(For the record, the Walt Disney World site search engine is execrable.)

We were there last month with a nineteen-month-old and another member of our party needed a wheelchair; we got a multiple-day deal on both and it definitely cut down on time standing in line for our wheels. It's true there's nowhere to stash cargo apart from your livestock, but there is at least a sun shade. You could possibly get a two-seat stroller and use the extra space for cargo: these tandem strollers have their seating arranged side-by-side.

In addition to the Brother Bear character greeting opportunities previously mentioned...you can also take her to see their "kinfolk" at the Country Bear Jamboree.

there are no bears native to Africa, so none in that section.

they could have sun bears in the Maharajah Trek, but they do not.

so other than Baloo (or his pals) I think you're right
