I also can't wait until later this year because there should be TONS of Ariel novelty items... Cinderella isn't exactly the most fun-looking or favored Disney princess, so they might have even MORE Ariel stuff!!

This is making me have a "Homer Simpson sees a donut" happy moment. I had TLM on VHS but my mom made me give it up to my cousin. Now I can get the wonderful DVD while my cousin is stuck with the crappy 80's VHS unless she can talk her parents into getting the DVD. Right now, I'm just looking forward to Lady & the Tramp.

I'm interested in what kind of "musical bonuses" they're talking about. Hopefully it's not just sing-alongs or Disney Channel Circle-of-Stars crap. The fact that it says "commentaries" gives me hope, and I think this will turn out to be a great DVD. After all, this is a movie by Musker & Clements! Their movies always seem to be jam-packed with bonus material (Aladdin, Treasure Planet).

Remember how grainy the trailer was for Aladdin, then when you saw the Platinum Edition the picture was perfect? The DVD trailer for the PE of TLM is grainy, yet it will look perfect on DVD. Now we just need the cover and the press release from Disney.

The bit about the commentaries is interesting. Lets hope there's some truth to this article. To be perfectly honest, considering the current state of the Platinum releases, I'd be more than thrilled to see a single commentary in the list of bonus features. I'm hoping Disney will release at least a fact sheet in the near future. I can't take it anymore! The excitement is killing me!!

NO Netty is correct, Little Mermaid was made in the traditional fashion with painted cels in the traditional animation process.

I guess I wasn't clear. As a devoted TLM fan for years, I know it was the last tradionally hand painted film. I was disagreeing that it looked more like Bambi than Aladdin. Regardless of how it was made, it still looks more Aladdin to me than Bambi. Maybe something about the vibrant colors and the similiar looking characters.

Well, as long as it points to the fact that this release will be along the same lines as Aladdin and Mulan and less like The Lion King or the misadvertised Region 1 Tarzan Special Edition, I'm happy enough.

Oh well, I'm sure TLM will get amazing transfer and cool commentaries, but don't be to surprised if we end up getting features like "Under the Sea: Music Video Preformed by Raven", "An Olympic Swimming Documentary Produced by ESPN", "Are you a Red Head, Blond or a Burnette Quiz" and "How to tell the difference between a Merman and a Mermaid Feature".

Well, I was refering to the fact that we can expect a lot of TLM (and hopefully, a lot of Ursula) merchandise. And the extras you mentioned were hilarious, except for the Raven video, which is assured to be on the set. It's shows how much we're anticipating this release when even the simplest thread gets a lot of replies.

Maybe Disney is just running out of things to put on the DVD. The only reason why Snow White has so much stuff is because it contains information of other Classics and how they create animated movies. They can't do a repetitive bonus material.

Platinum titles like the Lion King, and partly Beauty and the Beast, were just slapped together in a lazy way. Ever since Lion King, they've been on the way up I have to say. Aladdin and Bambi were pretty good. Cinderella had some crap that didn't belong on the disc, but it was still good.

It's all about the movie to me. I love how they have the extra, but what really matter is the transfer. One DISNEY DVD at a time guys, I can't wait for LADY and the TRAMP, I don't remember when the last time I watched it was. OMG it is going to bring such awesome memories!!

Oh of course, the movie is the important part. It's just that it's really sad to think that Disney along with Criterion pretty much blew away the competition back in the laserdisc age with its special features. The bonus material that The Lion King and Pocahontas laser disc box sets had would put the vast majority of "special edition" DVDs today to shame. It's just unfortunate that Disney used to give their films the great treatment that they deserve where as now it's just a couple of quick things slapped together. especially obvious if you compare The Lion King collector's edition LD to its equivalent Platinum Edition DVD.
