What Are You Glad You Have?

We all have our little collections of Disney favorites that haven't been formally released (aka taped off of tv). What are some favorites that you have that that haven't been released on vhs or dvd? My favorites are from the 80's. I hope to see them released soon! They are:

Walt Disney World 25th Anniversary
Animal Kingdom opening

I wish I had the Walt Disney World Opening with Julie Andrews hosting (I think) and the outdated Hall of Presidents and the creepy rerecorded Disney classic music in Mickey's Reveu. This Disney on Parade and the Epcot Grand Opening (with Drew Barrymore!) played on the Disney Channel on Vault Disney and I watched them, but didn't tape them! I really wish I did, because those were some classic Disney archival footage that doesn't see the light of day (or moonlight) anymore. If we can't get this on DVD, Disney should at least bring back Vault Disney. Now I do love seeing Phil of the Future at midnight, I'd rather have late night classic Disney or ectremely early Disney Ink and Paint Club (oh btw, I have a few episodes on VHS as well...one has shorts themed with cats and another is themed with sports and has the sequel to "Casey at the Bat" I think it was called "Casey Swings Again" or something. It qas quite funny, I wanna look for it now when I get home...)

I am happy to have all but one of the live concerts from Disneyland and DisneyWorld that were broadcast on the "good" Disney Channel. Some of the featured artists were LeAnn Rimes, Ringo Starr, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Roger Daltrey, The Bee Gees, Heart, Rod Stewart, and Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton. This is one of the reasons I hate the new Disney Channel, and refuse to watch anything on there. They have all of these so-called "stars" like Hilary Duff and Jesse McCartney, but they can't hold a candle to the 'major' stars of the past that had concerts broadcast from our favorite theme parks.

Well, I'm really happy that I taped the Disney Channel miniseries Return to Treasure Island back in the mid-1990s when it was re-run. For those unfamiliar with the miniseries, it takes place after Treasure Island with Jim Hawkins now a young man. Long John Silver has come to England looking for the map to Treasure Island because the chest containing the gems is still buried somewhere on the island. It does feel a bit padded in some places (especially when the main characters are forced to work in the gold mines in Mexico), but it's still a lot of fun.

I'm glad to have taped the DCOM Don't Look Under the Bed this year because you never know when the year'll be when they decide to stop showing it. An it doesn't look like Disney's going to release this on DVD, but who knows, I could be wrong.

I'm glad, thrilled and thankful that I still have a large collection on VHS of Disney animated shorts, TV shows, films, featurettes, Disney Channel specials that have not yet been released on Disney and Disney "animated oddities" that appeared in non-Disney films.

Even though the Walt Disney Treasures have contained a large volume of the cartoons, there are still about 200 cartoons not yet released on DVD. Obviously, most of these will eventually be released on the Treasures series. But I'm glad to still have some World War II educational/training shorts that were not released on the "On The Front Lines" Treasure, so probably won't see DVD release - favorites such as The Cold Front (1943), Hookworm (1945), How Disease Travels (1945), The Human Body (1945), Insects As Carriers Of Disease (1945), Your Job In Germany (1944) and a series on the "C-1 Autopilot" (1943).

I still have numerous Disney anthology TV shows from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s that I love and hope eventually will be released on DVD as Treasures or some other format. Among my favorite "animated" TV shows are An Adventure In Art (4/30/58), Adventure In Fantasy (11/6/57), Cavalcade Of Songs (2/16/55), From Aesop To Hans Christian Andersen (3/2/55), The Great Cat Family (9/19/56), It's Tough To Be A Bird (12/13/70), and Our Unsung Villains (2/15/56). Some favorite "live action" TV shows are An Adventure In The Magic Kingdom (4/9/58), Cameras In Africa / Beaver Valley (12/29/54), Disneyland Around The Seasons (12/18/66), Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair (5/17/64), Golden Horseshoe Revue (9/23/62), Holiday Time At Disneyland (12/23/62), A Salute To Alaska (4/2/67), and The Wahoo Bobcat (10/20/63). Also Mickey Mouse serials such as "Annette" and "The Hardy Boys".

My favorite Disney films not yet on DVD are the True-Life Adventures films, including the "Best of" film and the "True-Life Fantasy" Perri. I'm also glad to have the uncensored animated films - whose original versions have not yet been released on DVD in the U.S.A. such as Fantasia, Make Mine Music, and Melody Time. I'm also glad to have the original "unchanged" Bambi on VHS - the DVD "corrects" the "Star Trek beaming" baby racoon on the island in the stream during the fire scene.

Favorite featurettes are the True-Life Adventures featurettes and the "Disneyland U.S.A." Peoples and Places featurette.

Favorite Disney Channel shows and specials I have that I would love to see on DVD are the 20 part Disney Family Album series (1984-1986) celebrating the creative people who worked for Disney and the Walt Disney Studio Showcase series, of which I have the show Future Tense (1983).

My favorite Disney "animation oddities" that appeared in other films are Mickey Mouse and "Silly Symphony-type" short "Hot Choc-Late Soldiers" appearing in Hollywood Party (MGM - 1934) and animated kitchen dishes and utensils appearing in Servant's Entrance (MGM - 1934).

So there are still tons of video in the Disney vault for many years of Walt Disney Treasures and other DVD releases.

I was so young and naive when I'd watch The Wonderful World of Disney and Disney specials, that I thought they would always be there to watch!

I do have alot of shorts that haven't been released as well. A friend of mine, who was more diligent about taping those was nice enough to trade with me.

I would like to see the Wonderful World of Disney shows be released. I mainly want The Ranger of Brownstone and It's Tough to Be A Bird. I have them on BETA, but I don't have a BETA machine anymore!

What I do have and was able to salvage, I will take really good care of, because who knows if these will ever be released!

I've been thinking about this recently- wondering what I have on tape at home (in NY at my parents' home). I know I have the TV movie The Challengers on tape and would LOVE to watch it again. It's out on VHS I think but not on DVD and I absolutely loved that movie.

I'd have to look through my VHSs to see what else I have- I am sure I'll be surprised!

I think a lot of Disney Channel fans got caught the same way with the Vault Disney portion of the Disney Channel being canceled. I did tape a huge amount of Disney Channel material in the 1983-1987 period and again in the early 1990s but I donated most of my video material to a Disney library because I watched so many of the shows so often that I tired of the shows. I wish I had kept more of the shows now.

Yes, the Ranger Of Brownstone was a fun show - another one I don't have anymore. I originally taped the 1980s video on BETA and copied everything I could over to VHS. Unfortunately, my BETA machine was dying in the late 1980s and I was in the U.S. Navy in Scotland where I just couldn't afford to try to replace the BETA or get it fixed. So I wasn't able to copy everything I had to VHS. I no longer have any of my BETA tapes.

I honestly feel that "eventually" the better shows of the Disney anthology TV shows will be released on DVD on either the Walt Disney Treasures or some other way.

One of the things I am most glad to have is my Beta copy of the "Fluppy Dogs". It was a pilot for a show that never came to be.

It was about thses magical dog things that had keys that they would stick in walls and stuff that would open to other dimensions. I loved this tape!

Sadly I do not currently have a beta vcr, and the tape is somewhere in storage (i think/hope). I really wish this would be released on dvd.

At least one of the DTV music specials - but those tapes are probably slightly worn out and it'd be too risky to try to watch them.
