Is Netflix worth the money?

Post by Disney Lover »

I was wondering if anyone was signed up for Netflix and if they thought it was worth the money they spent on it? I am in the dorms at school right now and I decided not to shell out $133 for cable for the semester so I need something to occupy my time. I figured that I would get tired of watching the same dvds all the time so I thought I'd try Netflix. But then I figured I'd ask on the boards I frequent to see if anyone thought it was worth the money. Thanks!

If you have time to watch movies regularly, then absolutely. They claim that 90% of their subscribers are in areas where they can provide 1-day deliveries. Their selection is incomparable, plus, new subscribers get the added benefit of having first crack of DVDs with long waitlists (at least this used to be the case, though it was never advertised). With 1-out-at-a-time, you can probably rent at most around 10 DVDs and at $9.99/month, that's just $1/rental. Higher plans are even better for those who always want to have something on hand and can find time to watch things in blocks. Plus the first month is free and if you sign up through UD's link, good things happen for the site! :D

Seriously, I wouldn't be affiliated with them if I wasn't confident in their service - I've had others boasting free trials and promising referral fees, but their service and/or catalogues were lacking, so I dropped them. I've used Netflix as a renter on and off since 1999 - they keep getting quicker and it's the easiest and most convenient thing in the world to use. If I had time to rent things and watch them at my own leisure, I'd definitely start up an account with them again.

Netflix gets the :thumb: from me.

It's worth the money. I'm an on again/off again member. I join up when there are several movies I want to rent. Then I cancel when the month's up. Usually, I let two or three months pass before restarting my membership. I do this for two reasons: lack of funds and lack of time.

I'm also a member, and it's definetely worth it. You can get from 1-4 free movie rentals. Of course you have to pay a small fee every month, but you can cancel it at anytime and I'm glad I don't have to go all the way to "Blockbuster" anymore just to rent movies.

Thanks to Netflix, I think it'd be a long time until I'd ever have a chance to see classic films like "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Home on the Range"! :D

Well I signed up. :) I signed up for 3 dvds at a time for $17.99 a month. I had fun picking what I should put in my list. They'll send my first dvds on Monday. And yes Luke I used the link from UD. :)

Thanks, Tabbi. Hope you enjoy Netflix. The first-time experience is bound to be the most exhilarating - let the movies flow! One downside to Netflix (financially) is that, at least for me, I discovered so many movies I felt I had to own. But those generally get put on the "To Buy Eventually" list and I'd really get caught up in simply viewing movies I'd heard good things about it and had no other way of easily/cheaply seeing.

$17.99..................why so much. I only pay $8.99 a month for four each month and my qeue has almost 200 titles on it, which get updated quite often.

Where do you get them from DVDJunkie? I'm sure they are figuring in shipping costs into the package totals.

How did you get $8.99 a month, Bill? I thought that their plans start at $9.99 a month? Is there a special code to enter for that deal?

He said it was for 4 a month. Tabbi signed up for the 3 out at a time thing.

i swear by netflix. i think they're amazing. although i think they're best-suited for people who have a taste for the offbeat, and yeah, my provider is right down the road so they usually get out to me pretty fast.

Netflix had a deal that was sent to me on-line several months ago and it was for $8.99 with a limit of four movies out at a time. Netfix is the only way to go if you want to rent movies. Stay at home and enjoy yourself and I really like the fact that it only takes a day or so for the movies to arrive. I am always changing movies that are at the top of my list, but so far they have kept up with it. I like being able to keep them as long as I wish. But I usually only rent those movies that I will never buy or add to my collection in one form or another. I haven't been to "Lack"luster Video or Hollyweird Video to rent over a year now. I do go there to buy previously viewed movies that I didn't want to pay full price for when they first came out.

Netflix

I just signed up for Netflix and then read the story about how they throttle people and don't send them DVDs for days. Should I just cancel this right away before I get charged?

I think they only do that if you are going through the dvds too fast. Or at least I've heard. I sent them out on a Thursday and they sent me an email saying they received it on Friday and that they were sending the next ones out. Which I should receive tomorrow. I think the only time you should receive any delay would be if you sent the dvds back on say a Friday or Saturday cause they don't work over the weekends.

From what I understand, they do this basically to minimize losses on accounts of people who are renting dozens and dozens of DVDs each month. If you're just using it regularly, you don't need to worry about it, especially as a new member when you're likely to get your highest picks quickest. I wish you had signed up through UD's Netflix link though!

Scroll down just a bit under this post. It's a red and white animated button in the middle of the second row of graphic links. You can also find it on our complete page of Affiliate Links: Support the Site.
