I know that's why I'm excited for LATT! ;)

I was being sarcastic, actually, in case that didn't come through... but I must admit that I want to see the TLM cover too. :P

Here's another one that's waiting to see the cover for TLM; well, actually for the release of the movie.

I don't care that much for LATT... and not becuase I hate or dislike the movie... but because basically I've never seen it (just a couple of times when I was a little kid... and I don't remember anything of it).

There were 5 various covers released about 12 months before the release of Cinderella, which were suggestions as to the final version, one of those was finally selected in April i seem to recollect, I may be wrong but that was the month i remember.

Put me on the list of people waiting for the Little Mermaid cover to be unvealed. The possibilities are endless with this movie.

By the way, I was wondering... What was added to the press release? I couldn't find anything new and exciting as described. I guess I was expecting an additional making-of featurette or something like that.

Essentially it was the stuff that I highlighted in red here, and can be read on this page. :P

Wow, this is coming up real soon. I can't wait, I probably haven't watched this in almost 15 years.

According to one magazine review, the UK version looks set to have the 'scope widescreen version ONLY. No academy ratio version is included.

Well i thought as much, after all with past films such as "Sleeping Beauty" and "Brother Bear" where the R1 has has 2 aspect ratios, the UK has only had 1.

I'll still be getting the R2 UK copy, because of the higher picture quality and the fact that the R1 will sound too slow. (i know it is the PAL that is sped up before anyone says anything!) but having watched LatT almost weekly as a child, the sped up version sounds right to me.

Anyway, we don't yet know for certain that the R1 will even include the academy version, it may just be P+S, but if the R1 does have the academy version, i may pick up the R1 as well.

The UKs Total Film magazine has an excellent review of one of the features:
Best in Show's ridiculous judge Fred Willard is an inspired choice to present Going to the Dogs, a short and sweet kiddie guide to different dog breeds. Young pups will enjoy the cheesy voice over instruction on the different characteristics of seven main dog breeds, while the more mature viewer can admire Willard loitering in the park, obiquely insulting hapless owners and prodding/prepping the mutts. "Where did you get that mouse?" he roars, grabbing a terrified Chihuahua, while a proud sausage dog owner look genuinely bemused as he askes, "How do you get them so long? Do you warm them up and stretch them?" And of the dogs who don't appreciate his humour "Don't bite me, I've got a microphone."
I'm really looking forward to this!

Is there any way of knowing at this point if any other R2 releases are going to have both versions? Amazon.de claims the German release to have "Disc 1: Film in Vollbild & Widescreen-Version", but can they be trusted? Or should I just get the R1 release?

Well, the review didn't say is didn't have the Academy version. It just didn't mention it at all - the only comment on the film transfer being the scope one. Another short review in Total Film doesn't mention aspect ratios at all. It could still have both versions on the UK disc.

Although in French, this is an early review that confirms that this pretty much is the full Cinemascope version, with much more image than the old Region 1 version. What's more, the colours look much more magical than the acceptable yet not breathtaking colours on the old release. Wheeee!

I didn't have time to read every post on this thread. I'm sorry if this has been discussed before, but can somebody please tell me why this DVD has been listed here as Platinum Edition, on sneak peaks of other DVD's it's called 2-disc Special Edition, and on Disney's video release website it's listed as 50th Anniversary Edition.

Which is it? I'm confused.

It is all three.

Disney has become so confusing with the naming of their DVD's, it's beyond ridiculous. Next, we'll have The Little Mermaid: 2-Disc Special Edition Platinum Edition Under The Sea Edition.

Thanks - that clears it up.

Disney should just do PE (where we know we're getting 2-disc with all the bells and whistles hopefully), 2-Disc Special Edition for all those not getting Platinum treatment, and Anniversary Edition for re-releases on an anniversary.

Then, pick one category and stick with it - not try to call it all three like LaTT!
