I have been waiting for this!20th Century Fox has announced The Mel Brooks Collection for release on April 4th. The eight-disc set will include Blazing Saddles (on loan from Warner Bros), new editions of History of the World Part I, Robin Hood Men in Tights and Young Frankenstein, along with the debuts of High Anxiety, Silent Movie, To Be or Not to Be and Twelve Chairs. All will feature anamorphic transfers and trailers. "Robin Hood" also includes an HBO special, while "To Be or Not to Be" has a featurette. Retail is $99.98.
I have Blazing Saddles, but I can get rid of one of the copies. I was wanting to pick up Young Frankenstein for a while, I hope this new one has the same extras. Was there a DVD of Men in tights before??? The paragraph above seems to say there was...
I really enjoy to Be or Not to Be, and Silent Movie. I am glad to see those are finally being released.

I am so buying this set! Young Frankenstien is good on DVD, but it's not anamorphic, High Anxiety has never been released before on DVD, and Men in Tights has been a long time coming...
I only wish that if they were trying to include all of his films that they would have put the original version of the Producers in there as well...but then again, I guess that is a SONY title now, since Sony owns MGM's DVD rights...

This is good news. Problem is, I don't the movie itself will be separately available. It's probably the only Mel Brooks film I laughed non-stop at... I'm glad they're not including Dracula: Dead and Loving It in the collection.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights is just rife with memorable quotes and gags:
"If you don't pay your tolls then we don't eat no rolls!"
"'Cause unlike some Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent."
"Before you do it, you must go through it! Or else I blew it."
"I've always wanted to marry a cop!"

And how about the exchange after {SPOILER for those idiots who haven't seen it yet} Robin named Achoo the new Sheriff of Rottenham(sic?):azul017 wrote: Robin Hood: Men in Tights is just rife with memorable quotes and gags:

Audience: A black sheriff?
Achoo: And, why not? It worked in Blazing Saddles.
(audience agrees)

Mel Brooks' DVD Collection Box Set
April 4th is the date for the following Box Set of Mel Brooks' movies:
What's in it, you ask?
1. Blazing Saddles -- Cream of the crop when it comes to western parody!!
2. High Anxiety -- Mel Brooks one-upped Hitchcock with this one. I laugh every time I watch it.
3. History of the World Part I -- Heheh...funny movie...an essential inclusion in a Mel Brooks collection
4. Robin Hood: Men in Tights -- Finally! I've been wanting this one on DVD for so long! Woot!
5. Silent Movie --Great premise for a pretty funny movie.
6. To Be or Not to Be -- Great remake and a very funny movie.
7. Twelve Chairs -- This movie tears me up....it is outrageously funny.
8. Young Frankenstein -- Hilarious movie! Also an essential part of a Brooks collection!
So what do you think. Is this the collection we have been waiting for? I hear that the titles will be released singly sometime this summer.

I'm excited for the box set, if only to get a new anamorphic SE for History of the World. It's sad, but I haven't seen any of his movies except for History of the World, Spaceballs, and The Producers (original). So this will be one major blindbuy for me that I'm sure will be worth it.

Well I read the IGN review and it said that Blazing Saddles is in fact the older disc and not the 30th Anniversary Special Edition. So since I do not yet own it at all should I keep the one in the set (once I get it) or buy the 30th separately? Are the extras and picture better enough for me to buy again?

Gotta love Mel Brooks. I'd have to say Blazing Saddles is his magnum opus, with a generous nod to Richard Pryor who co-wrote it.
History of the World Part 1, while choppy and weak at times plotwise, gets major brownie points for The Inquisition ("let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!") and, of course, Jews in Space
As for the box set...I agree that I'd like to see Robin Hood: MIT sold separately, as I already have access to the rest of the movies in the set. This is a massive set, though, so one would think that WB would see the light and release some of them on SE DVD sets that they haven't already.
