Sources speak on Disney buying Pixar
According to the Los Angeles Times, through the San Francisco Business Times, two sources close to the talks between Disney and Pixar are reporting that negotiations between the studios are leaning toward Disney acquiring either all or part of Pixar. Shoud such occur, Steve Jobs of Pixar would likely become a major Disney shareholder, with the possibility of his being made the company's chairman present as well. Thus far, Disney and Pixar have yet to respond to the report.
New Disney/Pixar news.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. After all, Fox owns (Ice Age/Robots) Blue Sky and Dreamworks Animation owns (Shrek/Shark Tale) PDI.MadonnasManOne wrote:According to the Los Angeles Times, through the San Francisco Business Times, two sources close to the talks between Disney and Pixar are reporting that negotiations between the studios are leaning toward Disney acquiring either all or part of Pixar. And, desite what people say, Pixar is in a bit of a fix if it ever does decide to 'leave' Disney, bacause it has few characters and films of its own. (Notice how the shorts were pulled from the new Toy Story release? That was probably Pixar prepearing for a Pixar Shorts DVD if they did leave Disney, because they have no control or direct ownership of any of their full-length films).
If Disney does buy Pixar, it gives Jobs an opportunity to continue to oversee Pixar's growth while also control over Disney in general.
And then all you Eisner haters can see how egotistical and damaging Jobs can really be

Actually, Viacom bought out Dreamworks, so now they own Shrek and Madagascar and such.
Personally, I am not sure about this idea. It could mean Disney's own animated films will start bombing and getting unpopular all over again, thanks to stiff competition of Pixar's films! They draw the audience away from the other animated movies, usually. Except for "Monsters Inc," a Pixar movie is usually a 1-hit K-O at the animation festival awards, such as the Annies, etc.
Now, don't get me wrong, but I DO like SOME Pixar films. I mostly just like the "Toy Story" films and the "Incredibles." Those were classics. I just don't like "Monsters Inc." and "Finding Nemo," because of their over-hype and overpopularity, especially on the latter, and because the plots are a bit too babyish and boring to me. Sorry, I know I'm stupid!

No they don't. Dreamworks Animation is still a seperate company with its own stock listing, and has not been bought by Viacom, which is why I specifically listed Dreamworks Animation above. However, Viacom does have first refusal on distribution of Dreamworks Animation films.Logoliker2004 wrote:Actually, Viacom bought out Dreamworks, so now they own Shrek and Madagascar and such. too babyish and boring to me.
