Three Short Films on Hi-Fi, Stereo and Records

Post by musicradio77 »

I know you UD fans would love the history of Disneyland records during its 50-year anniversary celebration as record label (now Walt Disney Records). I would like to watch three short films about how it was made. It was produced by RCA (not Disney's predecesor of a theatrical sound system and a sponsor for WWOC) and the Jam Handy Organization. The first film you'll about to see is "Living Stereo". I wonder Disneyland records sometimes released a number of LP's briefly in stereo. It gives you the information of how stereophonic records work on both the left and right channels of their stereo system. Includes a difference between a "One Track Groove" which it was mono and the other is the "Living Stereo Groove". In the 50's and 60's, Disneyland releases hundreds of albums in monaural in the ST-3900 and the DQ-1200 series. The soundtrack includes in the DQ series are "Snow White", "Cinderella", "Pinocchio", "Dumbo", "Bambi", "Alice In Wonderland" and others are all released in mono only, not stereo at that point. Toward the end of the film you'll hear a sample of the last few bars of "The Grand Canyon Suite" where it was featured in the Disney short "Grand Canyon" and it was included on the "Sleeping Beauty" DVD.

Living Stereo (1958)

The second film on this program is the short film from RCA entitled "New Dimensions in Sound" where it features how Hi-Fi works. Keep in mind that all of the Disneyland LP's are originally made in splendid High Fidelity sound where it carries the name "High Fidelity" next to "A Disneyland Record" at the top next to the "D" symbol in crooked checkerboard like logo until they dropped it in the late 60's and it was replaced with a star symbol. It features Smith, the technician where he was talking about hi-fi sound played on a record and how it demostrates. In the middle of the program, Smith was talking about its new concept is stereo. The short ends with shots from the Grand Canyon without the music being played right after hearing a sample from the "Grand Canyon Suite". The shot from the Grand Canyon does not compared to the 1959 Disney short film of the same name according to the "Sleeping Beauty" DVD where the short was took place in the same exact location. This was from 1957, 2 years before the "Grand Canyon" was released as a Disney short next to "Sleeping Beauty". Here it is.

New Dimensions in Sound (1957)

And finally, the last film you'll about to see is how records are made. In this short "Command Performance", will take you to the RCA plant in Camden, NJ on a tour on how the records where made, how it records, how the records were pressed, and then packaged the records into stores for manufacturing. Will give you a example on how the 78 RPM records made. Same thing they use as an LP on a different format 33 1/3 RPM. Disneyland records has numerous pressing plants like Los Angeles, New York, or elsewhere where the factories are located. This was from 1942, long before the Long Playing records are made in the 1950's. Here is the short.

That's all there is to it. If you love these films, please discuss about how do you like that film on how it was made. Thanks!
