SWEET! Dumbo After much debate with myself whether to get it everytime I see it at Best Buy or Target, it finally is going to be rereleased!

Actually considering the fact that The Fox and the Hound II is out this year, I wouldn't be surprised if we got an 25th anniversary edition of The Fox and the Hound!

I really don't think Dumbo needs a upgrade and it will probably be a 1-disc just like last year Tarzan and TENG.

But it's great we have 4 Disney Animated classics that will take over 2006.

I personally suspect this will only be 1 disc.... I believe Disney would have promoted it as a "2 disc Special Edition" on the trailer if they had this up their sleeve.

My prediction is this will just be a re-issue.. (just like what happend in Europe).

I would guess 2 disc just because the last was a 1 discer and also, I think "special edition" was used. I think most SE's out are 2 discers, if not all.

Well, Oliver and Company and Peter Pan were released as SE and both where just 1 disc.

And take in consideration the rereleases of TENG and Tarzan.


... However, since this is one of Wal Disney's originals... let's hope

Oh yeah!! Totally forgot about those. I have Oliver & Co but didn't realize it was labeled an SE, and I have the LI of Peter Pan.

If this is just a reissue of Dumbo I'll be pissed... and I definitely won't buy it. Here's hoping they've got a 2 discer up their sleeves!!!

This is some really great news! 2006 is shaping up to be a great year so far. Although, with the whole Tarzan/TENG fiasco I am worried that this will be another dissappointment. A Dumbo DVD with a great transfer is really needed. We can only wait and see....

I have Dumbo on DVD, & I don't think they could add much more to the "Special Edition" DVD coming out later this year. I don't think there would be a reason to buy it unless:

a) The picture & sound quality of the film is improved or restored
b) More bonus features (making of features, deleted scenes, etc...)
c) Less read-alongs & games
& d) possibly another audio commentary (in my dreams)

Let's just hope that it won't be like Tarzan:SE

The only reason I don't seeing it being released as being 1 disc is because DUMBO is to much of a classic. I know we are comparing DVDs, the new DUMBO release in 06 to the 1 disc DVD release of Tarzan, and TENG in 05. But if you comapre them in the movie standpoint, DUMBO blows those movies out the water!!! Meaning DUMBO is a classic that will always be. Tarzan, and TENG is a movie you will forget about 9at least for me)!! Also DUMBO is Walt's creation, as for Tarzan and TENG is under Walt's company.

5 years ago, they released the 60th Anniversary Edition DVD, but now this year, it's going to be re-release again on DVD for the 65th anniversary.

Alright, we now have four confirmed special editions for animated classics this year!

- Dumbo: 2-Disc Special Edition
- The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition
- Lady & the Tramp: Platinum Edition
- The long awaited Lilo & Stitch: 2-Disc Special Edition ('bout time)

...and if we count Chicken Little, then 2006 is already a great year for animated classics! This news is great and everything, but I'd much prefer news for Hunchback or Treasure Planet. I never really cared for Dumbo, but maybe excellent audio/video quality and great bonus features are enough to change my mind.

And for those who think it will be a 1-disc special edition like Tarzan, I don't think that will be the case. It already has a 1-disc edition, and as far as I know, a 1-disc version has never been upgraded to another 1-disc version in Disney DVD history, unless I'm forgetting one. It's that kind of logic that gives me hope for Treasure Planet's rumored re-release.

I think it can't be a 1-disc again because it never had a 2-disc. Maybe Disney has some underground store on eBay making and selling Collector's Editions of Tarzan and TENG for high prices. That and because they knew some people will still buy it even if it's a 1-disc (quote by someone from this forum).

Well, I can't be certain for sure since I don't have the LI of Peter Pan but I do have the SE... and the SE already has GREAT transfer. (One reason for me not to get the upcomin PE because don't particulary love that movie).

So, they can as well make a video restoration and the new DEHTM and just add more extras to the disc, and have it 1 disc.

While this is great news (we've heard about this edition for about two years), it is a bit worrying they are not advertising it as a 2-disc edition considering the Tarzan and TENG fiasco. Let's wait for more information and screencaps from the trailer from our always reliable Ultimate Disney.

Even though Dumbo isn't one of my favorite Disney movies, this is still great news. The only thing that worries me is that Dumbo is being advertised before Hunchback, which could mean we'll see Dumbo in the Spring and Hunchback in the Fall. Personally, I think that should be flip flopped. Hunchback's 10th anniversary is in June, so it'd make sense for it to be released in the late Spring/early Summer. Dumbo's 65th anniversary is in October, so it'd make sense for it be released in the Fall (right next to The Little Mermaid's release).

You could just as well see it like this: Walt's two classics are put together, while the 2 modern classics are put together (whether that's TLM + Lilo or Hunchback).

As for the Dumbo DVD itself... I have to ask whether it's actually plausible that Disney would release the film again, by Feb 28 (with LatT), without us yet receiveing as press release. Also, the Funny DVDs are due till Jan 17th, which is a while away and cuts this short time frame even more. I suppose that if Disney were to release it by the end of Feb, it would most likely be a port over of the old materials/old disc.

Now, if it were scheduled for some time in Spring, like with Pocahontas, that makes a bit more sense, with regards to this timeframe issue.

I personally think that if it were to be released sometime in 2006, it fits a bit better in the Springtime rather than the Fall. I'm just getting this vibe.... I think Lilo could be stuck in the Summer, maybe attached to CL? (when is that Leroy supposed to come out?) That would leave the TLM attachment spot open for Hunchback and Fox and the Hound with whenever it's sequel is released (as Aaron already point out in his list).

However, despite Treasure Planet going OOP; I very much doubt it to get a re-release anytime soon, and we shouldn't take the Dumbo announcement as any type of warning that Disney will redo TP this year.

This is great! I missed getting a copy the first time (2001) and in my area they are next to impossible to find. But, like the rest of you I am hoping for a 2-Disc.
