How can bunieeprincess go into the vaults after a few minor annoyances and Teede is still here?! (sort of)
I'm in the dark like everyone else, but methinks that perhaps for a very short time (like maybe an hour), there was a big big argument or something and a lot of things were said, and so she was banned and they deleted all the mean things so no one else has to read it?

Or perhaps she simply asked that her title be "In the Vaults" since she only seemed to talk about OOP DVDs?

My Disney Story, But First...

Post by ImTheElectricPanda »

What does "In The Vaults" mean?

Is it A) You're banned, or B) You've posted so many times that you're "in the vaults". *I'm gonna go w/ A, cause B doesn't make sense.

Anyhoo, my disney story...

TALES OF A (soon-to-be) FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD:

I was born on November 29th, 1990. Just born merely days after Rescuers Down Under came out, and an infant when Beauty & the Beast was released. My first Disney movie (on video) was Beauty & the Beast, while the first film in theatres was Aladdin. I was captivated. There's usually the problem with the child crying and totally not paying attention to the film, but I was the complete opposite.

I was entranced with what I was seeing: the powerful colors, the magical songs, the entertaining characters (I wanted to be Jafar my entire childhood).

I would go on to see Snow White's re-release, Nightmare Before Christmas, and many other films with no problem. But, I don't remember those instances.

The next film I truly remember getting the same feeling that I did with Aladdin was The Lion King. Just a few months shy of 4 and I remember seeing the poster that's mostly blue and thought it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.

The film was something else. It was amazing! I was obsessed. I loved the chracter, Scar (not as much as Jafar), and GOD! I'd kill to have those days back.

I remember when Disney On Ice came with Aladdin, that same year, and I got a Jafar staff at Toys 'R Us, n waved it around the entire time. I expected some huge Snake for Jafar to turn into, but it was more like a big box with a snake head at the top, n I was so disappointed.

I would go see every Disney film that came out, my last being The Emperor's New Groove. I haven't watched the "latest" in theatres, but I love to relive the ones I grew up with during my early childhood.

I remember Pocahontas with my daycare "girlfriend", seeing Hercules in Hawaii while on vacation...Good memories...

Now, with a little brother on the way, due in a few months, I want a large collection of the films I loved as a child, hoping he'll mold into what I am (an aspiring screenwriter, that is) and love films as much as I do.

You see, there is a limited amount of films in my collection that are under "R", so I desperately have to get on the ball. I'm close to finishing the Platinum Collection (those out so far), and will move onto the remainders of the 90's...

Welcome to the forum, IntheElectricPanda.

"In the vaults" has two meanings. The first is that when Disney wants to discontinue a DVD, they put it "in the vaults." On UD, if a member is breaking rule after rule and they are banned from the site they are put "in the vaults."

i can say that i am a disney baby. i loved disney since i can remember, i grew up with disney. :)

when i was a toddler, my mom used to record disney cartoons, that's what i watch all over again. i think the vhs tapes aer still here, but i doubt it if you can still watch it properly. my tita who lives in the states always sent me those collector's edition of the different disney movies, in VHS tapes, that is what's popular years back right?

since i live in the philippines i also got the chance to go to two disneylands when i went to the US and to Japan. as i can see with my pictures there and the pictures of friends who recently been there, disneyland 15 years ago is way different from what disneyland is today!

until now, i still have my disney stufftoys and all that stuff i had when i was a kid. and i so love them dearly

next year, i'm going to US, and im excited to go to disneyland again. so i can experience what you guys experience already! :)

Greetings, Disney fans!

My name is Mikko and I'm a 20-year-old Finnish guy and a Disney fan. I'm currently studying English as my major in a university. The first Disney movie I saw was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when I was very young. The movie impressed me, and I watched it over and over again. Later on I saw Bambi, and I really enjoyed watching that movie (it's still one of my favourites). As time passed, I got more and more Disney movies on VHS, and I liked all of them.

I also enjoyed reading Finnish Donald Duck comics, and Donald became my hero. Whenever there were those old Donald Duck cartoons on TV, I'd watch them. I still consider Donald one of the best Disney characters ever, and I continue reading Donald Duck comics. I'm very fond of Scrooge McDuck as well, and I especially liked the stories about him made by Carl Barks and Don Rosa. One of my favourite Disney comics is The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (by Don Rosa) which tells us the story of Scrooge and how he became the richest duck in the world. The story, which has 12 episodes, is really touching and even has some tragic elements in it, making Scrooge a really complicated and interesting character, and that's one of the reasons why I've always thought that Scrooge is as good a character as Donald.

The first Disney movie I saw in theatres was The Lion King, and even today that movie is my favourite Disney movie. I like all the movies of the Disney Renaissance period, and those movies were the final nail in the coffin to make me a devoted fan. Of course the older and newer classics are fantastic too. I enjoy many aspects in Disney movies (stories, songs, score, acting, animation etc.), and I like it how nowadays you find out more meanings in Disney movies than you did when you were younger. Disney songs have always been close to my heart, and I think the musical style is really the way to go for Disney, because many musical moments in Disney movies are really memorable. I enjoy both lighthearted comedy and darker and melancholy drama in Disney movies, although usually I remember the movies with "deep" story the best.

I didn't really catch up with the DVD era until I finally got a DVD player and my first Disney movie on DVD: Brother Bear. Since then I've been collecting the Platinum and Special Editions of Disney movies, because I like to see the movies restored and to see the extras they provide. Unfortunately I missed Snow White and Beauty and the Beast Platinum Editions (the Finnish ones), and I can't find them anywhere, so I'll hope they get rereleased on DVD in a few years. I also look forward to the new Platinum Editions, and I hope we'll see more 2-Disc Special Editions in the future. I enjoy making-of documents, deleted scenes and various other things included in the 2-Disc releases, and those documents really make me appreciate the movies even more. I enjoy both the original English dub and the Finnish dub when watching Disney movies, and thanks to DVDs I have both options available, and sometimes there are even more dubs, which makes it interesting to compare the dubs.

I used to watch many Disney series on TV whenever I got the chance. I have fond memories of DuckTales, Talespin, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop and Quack Pack, and my favourites of those were DuckTales and Darkwing Duck. I'm very pleased with the fact that we'll finally have some DuckTales episodes on DVD, although it's sad that the fantastic pilot isn't included and that the set doesn't have any extras. Hopefully the next DuckTales sets will have the pilot and some extras included, but only time will tell, and I hope that Darkwing Duck gets the same treatment too.

I first visited UltimateDisney.com a few months ago when I was trying to search for information about the wonderful Walt Disney Treasures sets when I had bought Chronological Donald Vol.1, Mickey Mouse in Living Colour Vol.1 and Silly Symphonies from Finnish stores (it's sad that many WDT DVDs weren't released in Finland, and I couldn't buy the missing ones from abroad so I missed some very nice sets). I was pleasantly surprised of the nice and informative reviews of many Disney movies and such, and the forum seemed pleasant too. Thanks to this site I found out information about all the confusing Gold Collection, Special Edition etc. titles and other technical info, so now I know a bit more than before thanks to UD. I want to thank UltimateDisney.com for providing many fans with detailed information about Disney releases and more.

After lurking in this forum, I finally decided to join. I've seen how kind you people have been to newcomers, and I appreciate that. So, without further ado, I look forward to having nice conversations with you all. :donald:

Welcome to the forum, Mikko! :eye: Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you have a unique perspective to the world of Disney being Finnish (we don't have too many active members from there), though your individual interests are shared by many. Good pick on The Lion King - it's a favorite of mine too. I'm glad you decided to break down and join. I'm also glad you've found things on the site to be useful. And I truly hope you'll enjoy taking part in our various discussions.

Hi folks! Ok here goes...

I've only recently rediscovered the joys of Disney after a long sabbatical during my adolescent and young man's drinking years!

The first film I ever saw at the cinema was The Fox and the Hound (God how I cried) when I was aged 4 and that was closely followed by Bambi. I think they had a profound effect on me and would go some way to explaining why I am such an emotionally imbalanced person (seeing Bambi lose his mother like that is enough to traumatise any little boy!!!).

I think Jungle Book was the next thing I saw at the cinema. In fact that made me cry too come to think of it. I hated Mowgli for leaving Baloo and the rest behind. My mum described the ending as a 'happy-sad ending' in a bid to pacify me. To this day I still have no idea what the hell she meant by 'happy-sad'. Anyway I guess I owe my love of Disney to my mum.

Up to the age of about 13 I was fascinated with cartoons and animation. A keen drawer, I guess you could say my first real ambition was to be an animator. Like anyone keen on the art of animation I found myself strongly drawn towards the sumptuous world of Disney. I had quite a collection of videos back then too (heaven knows where they all ended up). Sadly for me but luckily for the cartoon world I found other interests as I started my ascent to manhood - football, girls and beer. One of my few regrets in life is that I stopped drawing. As a young boy I showed a lot of promise (even if I do say so myself) but I'm fairly sure that if I tried to draw something now it would be pretty hopeless.

And so now as I approach my thirties (help!!!!!) I find once again I have been lured back in. I have a little girl called Kirsty who is my world and a couple of birthdays ago I bought her her first Disney DVD which was The Tigger Movie of all things. Then I bought my wife The Lion King (she asked for it!) last Christmas which, would you believe, I'd never seen. Slowly but surely without actually noticing, more of these DVD's started creeping into the house on birthdays and at Christmas. Sitting down and actually watching them with Kirsty really took me back to my childhood and I now it's unclear who I am actually buying the DVD's for - her or me!

In my recent quest for DVD's and Disney info I stumbled across this amazing site. So, here I am and that's my (Disney) story. :)

Nice story Cornelius! Welcome to UD! :) , it's funny to see how Disney seems to creep back into our lives without us seeing it coming, myself included!

It's also good to see another fellow Northener around these parts :P

Hi everyone! My name is Daryl and I recently decided to start collecting Disney DVDs, since my VHS are starting to crap out. (I think it's a bad sign when you can see the actual film on the screen  .) Also, my neighbor here at school is a castmember at WDW and always talks about Disney (I go into her room frequently to get away from studying.) So, I joined the DMC this week and spent my Christmas giftcards on Disney DVDs. Since the town I'm in had a horrible selection of titles, I'll be ordering a lot of Disney DVDs online. This is probably the most positive forum I've ever been a member of and I'm happy to be here. I look forward to some great conversations!

I just noticed this thread due to daryliscool1's post, btw, even though we spoke in the bootleg forum, I never welcomed you, so welcome! :D

Anyway, I noticed that I've never posted in this thread, or at least I don't remember doing so, so I thought I might as well do it now :P .

Most of you probably know by now that i'm called Rachael, I've been on this site for a while posting every now and again  , i'm 17 and am currently at college and leaving this year :) ...and i'm female!

I remember liking Disney from a young age, especially the movies, and the dolls, I still have footage of what I like to call 'The BATB Christmas :p' where i received the dolls of the movie, and bubblebath from the movie. I also used to have an Ariel doll, but all I really remember from that is that her legs used to squeak lol.

I have vague memories of seeing Toy Story at the cinema, and I was told that my grandma took me to see Bambi once, but I don't remember that trip. Most of the Disney movies I liked as a child were due to my parents buying them for me on video, rather than going to the cinema. I remember asking my dad every saturday if he was recording any programs from the T.V. and if the answer was a 'no' i'd be straight down there with 3 Disney tapes, and would be glued to the television all morning  .

Just after Pocahontas, I remember there being a dip of Disney, I don't remember seeing any other movies from then, though I do remember jumping around the house pretending to be Meeko *shame*. And so, from then my interest in Disney declined, which was also aided by me growing up and going to secondary school.

Then a few years ago, I had an urge to watch BATB, and TLK, I did, and they were great, better than I remembered infact, my mum went out a few months later and saw TLK on dvd, and bought it for me as a 'well done' present for something, I can't really remember tbh, and then I began the search for BATB. Not knowing anything about 'the vault' or the 'platinums' I searched the internet to find a copy, but alas, it wasn't to be, I finally found a copy of BATB in MVC, (the only copy I have ever seen in a shop to date) and snapped it up in a second.

Just after getting BATB, I wanted to find out more about movies which I wanted to see again, but couldn't because my VHS collection no longer worked, and from that google search, it bought me here!

That is my Disney story! :D

(sorry about the length)

Hehe, don't worry about the length, Rachael, we've had novels written in this thread!

Anyways, great story daryl and Enchantress!

daryliscool1, I'm gonna call you Barret, because every time I see your name I think of the movie D.A.R.Y.L (Data Analysis Robot Youth Lifeform), and he was played by Barret Oliver, who seemed to have disappeared from acting in the late 80s.

And we're nearing the end of our Arizona vacation (gonna fly to LA on Sunday, then back home on Wednesday), and our family was talking about relaxing vacations and such, and that has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, but I thought I'd give anyone who cared an update on the escapades of Escapay (lol), Jane, and Kram.

Hi

Post by Little Mermaid »

Hi. :) I found UltimateDisney.com in a search engine because I was hoping that there would be a fan forum somewhere for Disney films. The first Disney movie I saw was The Little Mermaid and I was really little then. It to this day is my favorite animated Disney movie. I loved all of the classics- Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Cinderella, Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King and I enjoyed the live action films such as Tom and Huck and Man Of The House that starred an actor named Jonathan Taylor Thomas who was called JTT back then. I have a lof ot Disney Classic/ Masterpiece VHS tapes that now I could easily sell on E-bay but I would rather keep them because I like to watch them every once in a while :) Plus when I have kids, I want them to have my Disney VHS tapes. I am loving this forum and I hope to learn alot more about Disney as I post on this message board. :)
