What exactly happened with Cartoon Network?

Post by Evil Genie Jafar »

I'm an animation lover as most of you are.

So one of my favorite things to do was watch CN, basically the whole day. They were so many good cartoons shown there that I could basically watch it the entire week; or more.

... now after a couple of years without cable and back to it, I find out that I dislike most of the cartoons shown. In fact, I barely watch CN with a few exceptions.

The ones I truly dislike get most of the airtime!!!

... why do Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, Codename: Kids Next Door, Code Lyoko, Hi Hi Puffy Amy Yumi and Ed, Edd & Eddy are shown SO MUCH?!!

Don't they have a variety of cartoons any more? AND GOOD ONES FOR THE LOVE OF GOD?!!!

Can someone please explain me what happened?

PS

One can't even watch Adult Swim anymore. Futurama? and Family Guy I can't watch; most of the episodes (FG) are the old ones and are shown in Spanish that are NOT FUNNY AT ALL. And after that a couple of hours of anime, then they repeat Futurama and Family Guy, just to show more anime till morning?

What the heck? It wasn't that way before!!! Besides, who on Earth (besides me now  ) will wait till 4:30am to finally watch some new anime?

Maybe its time to subscribe "Boomerang!" while you at it. :P

You know times have changed back when cartoon network was set with classic HB cartoons that I enjoyed with. One of them was from Yogi Bear to Scooby Doo. Along with HB cartoons, there was Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry, Popeye, and Tex Avery cartoons. Sometimes, they even show movies such as "The Phantom Tollbooth", "Gay-Purree" and "Hey There! Its Yogi Bear". Ah.......good memories and those three were my favorites.

However, few years later CN decided to move all HB cartoons to a susbscribed channel called, "Boomerang" in order to produce more shows that are really unnessary to call this channel "a boring channel for kids" and they even put a few anime in the primetime slots such as "Dragon Ball Z" and "Pokemon".

I actually don't remember about the anime part of Adult Swim but I remember the creation of adult swim was just a late-night program with a good shows such as "Home Movies". Heck, even the AS shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force made me want to watch it. As for the Anime itself, I only watch Lupin III and Cased Closed (Blame it to sub-titles, I guess).

There's nothing wrong with Family Guy nor Futurama on Adult Swim. Its that, Family Guy went back on air after its been canceled in late 2000 and that show gains more popularity than ever. As for Futurama, it was just....meh...there's no need for new episodes.

In my conclusion, I think that Cartoon Network is the channel with all of animation lovers alike but then its time for us to move on and let the new generations grew.

I DO have Boomerang as well.

And thanks for replying. But the thing is that I still don't comprehend the changes in CN.

I mean, they don't even show anymore their "new" cartoons: Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls... Hey, they don't even show Pokemon or DBZ (that even I hated it because they never took it off the air, at least it was a "classic").

I also liked when years before they used to show: The Flintstones, Pirates of the Dark Water... even Thundercats!!!! I seriously don't think they needed an aditional channel just to show old cartoons as the new ones blended perfectly well with them.

They don't have Justice League anymore, or Batman Beyond; why don't bring back 90's cartoons that aren't that old if they don't have any more new stuff? What about SWAT Katz, The New Adventures of Jhonny Quest.. even REBOOT (that was great)....

Plus, if they want to show anime... SHOW GOOD ONES!!! And at an exact date/time...

Please, even Inuyasha (with so many sex/violence/drug abuse  ) was moved as part of Adult Swim at 4:30am!!!

PS

They don't even have 2 Stupid Dogs anymore!

What happened with the blocks they had?
What happned with their contests?
What happned with their specials?; I even remeber when they useed to have these polls where they let people decide by calling what cartoon marathons would be shown...(I mean, that's how they got their "new" cartoons as well)

I like Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. :) Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi is alright, too.

When I was a little kid, I watched The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Tom and Jerry, Space Ghost, and the old MGM cartoons.

This is the problem I find with Cartoon Network Jarfar. I wish they would their Cartoon Cartoons like Johnny Bravo and Cow and Chicken and Courage aswell. The only place you find them now is on the Cartoon Cartoons! I just think Cartoon Network should play less anime and get back to how they usr to be!

Cartoon Network hardly plays any anime. The only anime it plays is on toonami, and that anime is crap. If I remember well toonami was a part of cartoon network before "cartoon cartoons". So technically if it goes back to the way it use to be, with anime. Dragonball, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyou, Rebot, Sailor Moon, the Thundercats, ect need to be brought back.

Yeah, I realized this too. After about a year or two of not watching Cartoon Network too much (I can't remember why) I tuned back and realized that the shows I used to love like Cow & Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Powerpuff Girls, and especially Courage the Cowardly Dog (I love that show!) were not being shown anymore! Ed, Edd, and Eddy, which I do like, is still on a little bit here and there. But, mostly now they have crap cartoons and anime. It's a darn shame. The scary thing is, the same thing is almost happening to Disney Channel! In a few years, after Raven and Zack&Cody are gone, theyll be putting out new shows, and their new shows, like Naturally Sadie, Life with Derek, The Buzz on Maggie, are not very interesting. Phil of the Future is also getting a bit on the less interesting side.

Sex and drug abuse in Inuyasha? Neither of those are in that show.

The only times I ever watch Cartoon Network anymore is for [adult swim] or the anime. Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist, Case Closed, Dragon Ball Z, Zatch Bell, and Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo are all excellent shows, and I can never miss an episode of Family Guy or Futurama. I can't stand the original shows they're airing nowadays. Sometimes I'll watch an old episode of Ed, Edd, n' Eddy or Dexter's Laboratory for nostalgic reasons, but that's really the only time I tune in to that network anymore.

I don't have a problem with the new shows that they are airing. I love to see the new stuff. The one problem that I do have with Cartoon Network right now is...

They are showing live-action movies! I think its Sunday afternoons, but I've seen live action movies, I think one of them was The Goonies? I hate when networks pull that crap. Its the Cartoon Network, show cartoons!

Don't you have a Region 1 DVD player?
Justice League and Batman Beyond are going to be release on DVD in season sets this March. As well as Teen Titans and The Batman in February.
Also I'm 100% with you about Cartoon Network. They cancelled my favorite show called Teen Titans!!!! So now I'm so mad a CN because they have other shows that are stupid and lame and now they cancel or drop the great ones. Cartoon Network is being like The Disney Channel.

I know what you mean Thudercats is way to expensive!!!! Even when it's on special!!!! I guess they are priceless for RJKD23.

Have they changed all those shows? Good lord, I've really been without CN for a long time if that's the case. You're all obviously talking about the american CN and I'm about the Scandinavian, but I wouldn't be surprised if this one has gone through the same transformation as the american one. I SO loved Dexter's laboratory, The PP-Girls, Tom and Jery and all of the old WB cartoons they showed, I watched them everyday and I can guarantee I saw every episode of Dexter when it was aired.. Sometimes during the time I watched CN, anyway.

I really feel sorry for this. The modern shows some of you listed up are simply unknown to me, but what are they like in general?

I'm in Region 1. And I'm planning on getting JL when released. My point was that they cancelled those excellent shows.

I can't talk about Krystal  , and I do have Thundercats. My point again was that they don't show these kind of shows from time to time.

Yeah CN really sucks these days. I don't watch it at all. The only I show I like is Camp Lazlo.

And yeah, I loved Courage the Cowardly Dog,too. Man, I can't believe CN just throws away their shows like that, they're basically forgotten. I miss Courage a bit. I also used to like Sitting Ducks, I missed that show, too.

There must have been a REAL change somewhere. Because as we said the change from what the channel as to what it is today is just HUGE.

Yep and all those great shows like Dexter's Lab, 2 Stupid Dogs, etc. All gone, down the hatch.

Seriously, those shows need to be released on DVD somehow. Well, some HB cartoons have recently made into DVD and I don't think its not enough. :headshake:
