It's absolute madness that Disney UK are releasing (some) of the Walt Disney Treasures while still forging ahead with their "Fables" and "Everybody Loves..." ranges. Look at the Everybody Loves Goofy entry - 50 odd minutes while the Complete Goofy Treasures is over 5 hours!

I'll be interested to see how much Disney UK thinks that they can get away with charging for the Treasures sets given their much increased content.

Exactly how much is missing from the treasures lists 2099net. I've not got any of them yet and really want them, do you think that this is just the first handful of cartoons to be rated and that the rest will be rated later on?

These are just the bonus materials for the sets, and seem to be exact copies of the supplements and easter eggs on the R1 sets. The Cartoons named on the Mickey Mouse set for example are supplemental pencil tests - not the actualy cartoons.

I guess the actual discs will have the same content as the R1 versions. However, I'm sure the UK won't get the limited numbered tins.

I've only got two of the treasues tins (Goofy, Disneyland), so I'm glad I'll be able to get the Mickey cartoons and Silly Symphonies.

I hope they won't try and rip us off too much, and if they won't be limited editions, they shouldn't be too expensive? Right?

Now that I've thought about it for a couple of minutes, I'm quite chuffed that I'll be able to get them, although I would have liked to get a complete set of tins (but thanks to eBay whores that's not going to happen).

It's an ending! That's enough... I guess. Bring 'em on.

Dogtanian (cool name BTW), I'd buy these sets (when avablible) on either Play.com or Splashdvd.com they always seem to be the cheapest with me, I never pay street prices for my disney stuff. I think it would be nice to have the tins but I'm not that bothered I just want the content.

I share your sentiments in a way - I've just spent a bunch of money picking up the tins, and to see them come out (presumably cheaper - MMILC HAS to be ) is a little painful.

However, it can only be a good thing I think. As collectors, those with the numbered tins have a good looking set. For everyone who missed out and just wants the discs, they are happy too. Finally, they are out on a durable format that everyone has a chance of getting (being released across most of Europe now) which in the end is what really counts...

Well, what I really meant it the other way round - why release the substandard cutdown Fables and Everybody Loves when the much more superior Treasures were always going to be released?

For example, who in their right mind would buy a Everybody Loves Goofy compilation which doesn't even run for an hour, when the Goofy Treasures set (which we can now assume will be released) runs for 5 and a half hours!?!

Once again, like Disney UK's aggressive promotion of their single disc sets at the expense of their 2 disc sets, it's Disney 'dumbing down' their releases. America dosen't seem to have a need for these Treasures Light collections, so why should the rest of the world?

That's simple. Many people will end up buying both, because they won't know there'll be a 2-dic set available a year later... Just like many people will end up buying both 1-disc and 2-disc releases of Lilo and Stitch - the first one to get the movie and the second one for the extras. It's very clever marketing, nothing more.

In the short term it may be seen as clever marketing (but I think it will confuse people) but in the long term it's anything but clever marketing.

But isn't that everything we hate about Disney these days - decisions made with short term profits in mind and no thought as to the concequences of the long term rewards.

It will confuse people and cause resentment when people who bought the initial sets find out about the treasures. It will have a negative affect on Disney in the long run. Obviously releasing a single disc Sleeping Beauty release in the UK and then following with the 2 disc set 10 months later didn't have much of an affect on Disney's profits - because they never advertised the 2 disc release at all (not even a press release) and as a result most shops have never even stocked it at any time since. And I've read comments at the time from people who said "I've got the single disc release, I won't buy the double disc set as well".

Wouldn't only releasing the 2 disc set for a resonable price in the first place have been better? Perhaps they have learned this lesson now, with The Lion King only getting a 2 disc release in the UK - the first time ever for a 2 disc set.

I know now for example from reading other forums, people are feeling cheated that a 2 disc Lilo and Stitch is coming out in the US. And they have far from complimentary things to say about Disney as a result.

The same will happen becuase of the cut down, dumbed down European collections too. Mark my words.

No pricing information is available.

According to Blackstar's site, both these titles are coming on DVD and on VHS. I wonder if that's a mistake, or if they are really coming to VHS in the UK?

Well, they're up for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk now. But no further information or pictures are available, even though the release date is less than a month away (Nov 10th).

Which is absolutely unforgivable for releases like these. We don't even know if the releases are limited and/or come in a tin casing.

BVHE needs to get somebody else to do their PR.
