I'm sure it'll be watchable, I hope. If Toy Story 3 fails then I'll have low, low expecations for this. I'm still not sure if Disney can pull off Pixar magic by themselves.

I keep my expectations low for all sequels, that way I'm not terribly disappointed when they come out. A Peter Pan sequel in CGI? Could prove interesting, don't hit it until you've seen it. We'll see what happens Twice Upon A Christmas was an interesting experiment in CGI, and it turned out alright (not amazing, but it is one I would buy)

I'm always a little wary of sequels at first. But, hey, I absolutely LOVE The Lion King 1.5/3 and I am looking forward to Bambi II. As others have stated, my expectation is low so I won't be incredibly disappointed.

But a CGI prequel to Peter Pan? I don't know about that.

Hey everyone, this just in from Cinematical via The Guardian:

According to The Guardian, Disney's follow-up to the surprisingly successful Chicken Little will be Peter and the Starcatchers, a Peter Pan prequel. The movie will be based on Dave Barry (yes, that Dave Barry) and Ridley Pearson's wildly successful children's book of the same name, and will explain how Peter got his powers (and, hopefully, all the green gear). In the book, Peter is an orphan "who becomes a stowaway on a merchant ship in order to avoid a life of servitude." On the ship, he "finds a trunk full of a magical substance that enables people to fly" and is eventually called upon to use his find to save the ship from hijackers.

Given the fact that the book spent nearly all of last year on the best-seller list, Disney's made an intelligent choice here. In addition to the kids who read the book, of course, there are also hoards of older folks who grew up with J. M. Barrie's novel and will at least be interested in the story of Starcatchers. No word yet from Disney as to when they hope to have the movie in theaters.

I am highly doubtful of this news, considering we've seen stuff from several other movies (American Dog, that boy genius thing) and haven't (at least I haven't) heard a thing about this. If this is to follow up CL, then I would expect it to be in theatres next year (although if Iger gets his way, it'll just skip theatres and go direct to DVD). Your thoughts?

It sounds like an interesting premise to me...and one that would translate well to animation (I'm assuming this one will be CG since they referenced Chicken Little). It's intrigued me enough that I will track down a copy of the book and give it a read. Perhaps then I'll have a better formulated opinion.

I think this is just a rumor, because in order for Disney to do that, they woudl have to buy the rights to the book, and I haven't heard of them doing so. When they buy the rights to a book, it usually pops up somewhere on the internet. Also, the people who wrote the book are writers not necessarily affiliated with Disney, and I remember reading reviews saying that it was a distinct story seperate from the Disney franchise.

Oh, really? I thought it was the other way around. I thought Dave Barry and his writing partner concieved the idea and it just so happened Hyperion picked it up.

Disney's latest CG animated tale will be an adaptation of the Peter Pan prequel Peter and the Starcatchers.

Based on the bestselling 2004 children's book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson which explores the origins of the boy who never grew up, it will be scripted by Pirates of the Caribbean writer Jay Wolpert.

Disney's animation department is currently riding high after scoring an unexpected box office hit with Chicken Little, its first fully computer-animated movie to be made without the help of long-term partners Pixar.

The film has so far made $120m (£68.8m) in the US alone, despite lukewarm reviews, defying predictions that Disney would struggle to repeat the successes of Pixar co-productions like Monsters Inc and The Incredibles.

Starcatchers centres on a young orphaned boy, Peter, who becomes a stowaway on a merchant ship in order to avoid a life of servitude.

The novel spent 47 weeks on the US bestseller list when it was published by Hyperion last year.

Recent celluloid outings for the famous citizen of Never Land include 2003's Peter Pan and last year's JM Barrie biopic Finding Neverland. There was also 1991's oft-criticised Steven Spielberg fantasy Hook, starring Robin Williams as the grown-up Pan and Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook.

I dunno about a prequel whether it's true or not. but the tinker bell movie is in the works. It's called "Fairies"- but i know this has already been discussed. Maybe peter will be in this one too.

This has been planned since the release of the book. The book will be a trilogy, and Disney is looking to capitalize on the franchise.

The only thing I'm surprised about this is that, first of all, I hadn't heard anything about this adaptation before now. Secondly, is that, according to this news report, the film is basically being considered as the 46th Anmated Classic set to follow Chicken Little. Frankly, if that were the truth, I'd be a bit surpised. One, because It would be weird having an official sequel to Peter Pan also be an animated classic, and because compared to thier hype for Rapunzel, and American Dog, and the other boy genius thing, this story just came out of nowhere, at least for me.

I was just playing around on IMDB, and thought I would type in Peter Pan for fun. Lo and behold, a movie rumored for 2007 called Peter and the Star-Catchers comes up.

If anyone doesn't know what this is, PatSC is the "official" prequel to JM Barrie's celebrated novel. I've read it and while it is a bit predictable, it wasn't targeting 18-year-old males, it was really good.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this movie. Is Disney releasing it? Is it going to be animated? Who is in it? IMDB wouldn't let me see their info, because I needed the IMDBPro subscription, but I don't have the money for that. If anyone does have that, please share the info.

Well the Tinker Bell movie (called "Tinker Bell", how original) comes out Spring 2007, though I don't know if that's considered "Peter Pan III".

I've heard about Peter and the Star Catchers, but I don't know anything else about it (whether or not Disney or another company is doing it, animated vs. live action, etc.). I wouldn't mind seeing an incarnation of this story hit the screen, though I really have no preference if it's animated, CGI, or live-action.

I have just finished the series (peter and the starcatchers, peter and the shadow thieves, and peter and the secret of rundoon). I love this series so much and can't wait to dig into the following series the Never Land books. My mom and I talk often of this series being made into a movie. Just surfing the net I saw on the official website that they will be releasing a CGI movie in 2009. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much more. Anyone know if and when the movie will be released!!!???? I am dying to see these films!
