Ooh! Groovy. If there is one thing I look forward to, it's a Disney film about dogs. If not a 2-Disc, I hope they live up to some of the better single disc 'vault' films. Even if they stick with the original specs from the press release at the head of this thread, they will be better than some of the barebones ones we've seen recently.

Woohoo!

One thing saddens me, though:

Original Press Release had this as a bonus feature:
• THE SHAGGY DOG
This documentary looks at Walt’s involvement in the creation of the film and the
Disney Studio’s production of its first-ever live action comedy.

But the New Press Release doesn't mention it:
• Original theatrical version with 10 additional minutes of footage
• The Shaggy Dog Kids
• Fred MacMurray – With Fondness
• Audio Commentary with stars Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran, Tim Considine and Roberta Shore

Though I am curious as to the 10 additional minutes. Is it going to be integrated into the film or will it be deleted scenes?

Anyone know if the 1994 tv remake with Scott Weinger and Ed Begley Jr. will eventually be available on dvd? If not anyone have it on a tape they'd be willing to sell?

Hooray for Original theatrical aspect ratios on both titles and original Black & White photography for the first one!!!

I guess Disney finally learned their lesson with the Absent-Minded Professor fiasco.

Now if we can only get them to reissue Son of Flubber in widescreen!

I don't think so. If they we're going to release it I would think that they would tie it in with The Shaggy Dog (1959) and The Shaggy D.A. (1976).

Just a General Question did the Shaggy DA ever happen to air on the Disney Channel in the 90's or early 80's. I remember the original Shaggy Dog probably from a Disney Channel airing if it had one in the 80's or 90's, or from the VHS tape.

Couldn't they have just issued these as a double-feature, neither sound too exhaustive in terms of supplements?

That would be a better idea. It worked for the Old Yeller movies.

Did it really "work" for the Old Yeller movies? Old Yeller lost an audio commentary and had its SRP raised $10 for the same lacking presentation of the underwhelming sequel (only more compressed). Not everyone who wants The Shaggy Dog will want its sequel, either.

Anyway, as it is, you can get both for under $28 shipped at Amazon:

I never saw Shaggy DA in its entirety, just saw a little bit once on Vault Disney, but it wasn't very interesting. So I'm sorta glad they're doing separate releases.

I noticed that the revised cover art for Shaggy Dog and DA was up on the front page.

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/coverart.html#mar

I'm not normally one of those people that complains about cover art, but I just want to go on record as saying that the new cover for The Shaggy Dog is the ugliest piece of dog droppings I have ever seen.

The old cover had not one, but TWO pictures of Fred MacMurray on the cover. Now we don't have one. A supposed a big blue banner with the always attractive yellow bold text is far superior to the stylish art of the original design.

I agree with everything you just said, Loomis. (Thanks for writing it and saving me the time. :D) Generally, I don't care so much about cover artwork, but I can't imagine this sticking. The old artwork was just swell - this revision even obscures the dog. I can live without seeing Tommy Kirk and Dean Jones in human form on their respective covers, but this is just bad. At least what is on the discs themselves promises to be good (and I don't mean disc art).

Oh my... that is the WORST cover art I have ever seen. That stupid banner for the color edition is taking up half the cover. Leave it to Disney to screw up the release of one my favorite disney movies.

Howdy!

First off, WOW! The Shaggy D.A. transformed itself from an English/French/Spanish DVD into an English/French DVD!

And second, I remember those 90s Disney Classic movie remakes for ABC television! I remember that, Freaky Friday, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, etc. THOSE should be released on DVD (even if they are only Club Exclusives).

Well again, Cover art doesn't really bother me, but holy hell those are 2 of the worst covers I've ever seen! They look like they had less time spent on them than some of the bootlegs on eBay!

Anyway, I'll definitely be picking up The Shaggy Dog, as for The Shaggy D.A. i'll have to think about it.

The Shaggy Dog & The Shaggy D.A.

I was really pleased with how these dvd's turned out. The documentary on Fred MacMurray was excellent. I also liked how you can watch both the colorized version or the original black and white version. I wish they had done that with The Absent-Minded Professor.

Did anyone else buy these this week?
