"The most obvious change is that all Disney parks and resorts around the world have been consolidated under Al Weiss, who receives a promotion from President of Walt Disney World to President of Worldwide Operations."

Oh my god, they're doing exactly what I feared!

Many Disneyphiles fear that the consolidation means that there will be widespread cloning in the parks, and that Magic Kingdom-style parks, for example, will become indistinguishable from one another. However, Weiss told the Orlando Sentinel in a telephone interview that this would not be the case. “They're going to continue to stay very unique,” he said.

That said, there will still likely be clones of new attractions appearing worldwide, especially the less-expensive but highly successful ones such as the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin/Astro Blasters ride currently making its way around the world. The efficiencies of getting multiple installations out of one attraction design can't really be ignored. We just have to hope that Weiss keeps to his promise, not overusing the cloning process win comparison to allowing the creation of unique attractions.

If you check the other thread (the one asking for more Disney parks), you'll see my thoughts on cloning attractions and parks.

The paragraph above and the paragraphs below the quoted ones are more promising. Disney World does do a lot right, in terms of outside-the-park mechanics, and having that expand globall is a good thing, as is more attention devoted to Imagineering (that's a very good thing if it axctually happens). I do fear cloning, though, and have mixed feelings over Al Weiss. Too bad they didn't give Matt Ouimet (Disneyland president) the promotion instead, as he's done a wonderful job and really pleased guests and fans.

For the first time in 6 years, Disneyland can truely be called the happiest place on earth and the most magical. Now you want us to give you the magic? I don't think so! :P

I'm a bit confused about the article. Are they confirming a new Disney theme park at Walt Disney World? Are they confirming theme parks in other countries?

Yeah I don't really like cloning either. I mean it's great for maybe rides like Pirates of The Caribbean or Splash Mountain, but don't clone EVERY single ride in all the parks. Give every park a bit of originallity or creativity!

This didn't garner much attention when I first posted, but here's a follow-up:

It's a shame that he has to leave CA, but it's better for him and his family. It will likely be better for the parks on the whole; Florida seems to be a little neglected right now.

I hope this means good things for Florida. There are lots of promising new attractions on the drawing board, but a lot of work(EPCOT, for ex.) needs to be done.

By the same token, it has received more attention over the last few decades than the original California one has. I mean, the only significant expansion to Anaheim in the last few decades is Disney's California Adventure, whereas WDW continues to grow and grow.

Mind you, much of the west coast attention probably has a lot to with the 50th anniversary.
