According to all the information I have seen, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is a dark ride attraction.
That means it will be an indoor ride with a vehicle that goes past various story elements (like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride; Winnie the Pooh; Peter Pan's Flight etc).
The official word is:
"Open the door to a wild ride through the streets of Monstropolis! Hop in a taxi and follow along as Mike and Sulley embark on a mad scramble to return Boo to her bedroom, while keeping her safe from the sneaky Randall Boggs and the Child Detection Agency.
* Scare up some 50th Anniversary fun in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot at Disney's California Adventure® park.
* Chase through scenes inspired by Disney's presentation of a Pixar's "Monsters, Inc."
* Receive a personal farewell from the ever-watchful Roz."
It should be open sometime next year.
I also enjoy the 3D stuff, isaac15. On my recent trip, I must've been on every '3D' adventures. A Bug's Life and Muppets 3D in California Adventure; Honey I Shrunk the Audience in Disneyland; Shrek at Universal Studios; Terminator 3D (Universal). All were fun, and I look forward to seeing more of them.

California Advetnure! Which is good, since this park NEEDS a couple great attractions!Raydawggie wrote:Wow! This sounds great! Will it be in WDW or Disneyland?
Will this be similar to "E.T." at Universal Studios where E.T. says, "Goodbye Insert name here"?Loomis wrote: * Receive a personal farewell from the ever-watchful Roz."
As for a 3D attraction, why not make it a 3D simulator like "The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man"?

The link I posted above says "early 2006", and that's the official site. It also describes it as a "wild ride", which would seem to imply some speed. That said, some dark rides are swift without being too fast. I mean, Roger Rabbit's Spin is fast and really trippy in spots, but it isn't exactly Space Mountain, is it?isaac15 wrote:i heard it is opening january. is this true. i wonder if the ride is going to be fast or slow. i hope a little fast. but than stell slow
Most sources say January 2006, so I guess that seems likely at this point.
Also, I found this Official Podcastlink. They talk a bit about the ride on that (although the first half is mainly about the 50th anniversary/holiday additions to the park). They speak with Kevin Rafferty, an imagineer who talks about his career and the new ride. (He started as a dishwasher at one of the hotels, so there is hope for us all!)
Things Rafferty mentions:
- First or second week of January 2006 opening
- Replaces Superstar Limo
- Based on scene where Boo is discovered in Monstropolis. We follow Mike and Sulley as they run frantically around and are chased by Agency and Boggs.
- Captures a moment of the film that they can tell in a three-dimensional story
- Compares to "classic dark rides"
- New technologies introduced (e.g. Randall Boggs appears and disappears, reversing Haunted Mansion effect; Randall changes colours as Boo hits him: combo of special effects and animatronics; audio-animatronic Roz will speak to guests in real-time, advancing the Turtle Talk concept)
- First ride that will take you through a bathroom
- Original voices return for the attraction (Billy Crystal; John Goodman; Jennifer Tilly; Steve Buscemi)
- Twice as big as Fantasyland dark rides
- 40 characters inside ride

Yes, just to the left of the Hyperion Theatre. But as you say, closer to that bathroom area.memnv wrote:I saw where they are building this. It is California Adventure right past the main entrance at the end of the street with the Muppets 3-d. next to the Bathroom
As Kevin Rafferty mentioned in the post I made above, it is the first ride to take you through a bathroom. Maybe the restrooms next to the Hyperion are the on/off point.
And if you are riding something that involves toilets, does FastPass take on a whole new meaning?

Superstar Limo was a rather weird ride. You get into a limo, and you drive around Hollywood and see strange caricatures of celebrities. I've never ridden it before, though. The one time we were in DCA, I opted to stand in line and get General Hospital's Nancy Lee Grahn's autograph while everyone else went on the 5 minute wait line for Superstar Limo.isaac15 wrote:a lot of people said that it is Replaces Superstar Limo. what is Superstar Limo was that a ride.

If anything, this ride was freaking hilarious! I went with my sister, cousin and dad and we laughed the whole time. It started out while in line as you walked though a very cartoony airport, complete with baggage claim. You were then brought to a limo where a television monitor mounted in your ride vehicle shows your agent giving you some spiel about you in Hollywood. Then you proceed through the famous parts of Hollywood, passing some caricatured 2001 or 2002 (whenever DCA opened) famous celebrities. They were so funny looking! The ride wasn't very fast though, and I don't remember it being too long nor too short. There were many points where you were amid flashes of "paparazzi" and by the end of the ride, you see your picture on a big screen. We looked pretty silly because we didn't know when it exactly happened and we were pointing and laughing at the funny characters. The ride was very cute and colorful and a nice taste of Hollywood if you've never been there. I don't know why it wasn't popular. For kids it was a perfect opportunity to have a taste of stardom and for their parents it was a funny parody of Hollywood and its stars. Also it was a good escape to an air conditioned ride!isaac15 wrote:oh ok so it was a ride. so are they going to use the same track as Superstar Limo. and if so. can someone tell me if the ride was long our short. thats funny i never heard of Superstar Limo. the ride must have not did good.
I guess the popularity of Monster's Inc. would be a more valuable upgrade as Superstar Limo would easily become outdated. Though for this Monster's Inc. ride...do you really ride through/past a real bathroom or is the bathroom in the scene when Sulley discovers Boo and tries to flush her toys down the toilet?
The Superstar Limo was a mistake. It was one of the only Disney attractions that was ever eliminated from a park without me even feeling the slightest bit bad about it. The "celebrities" that were included in the ride were neven really the top-of-the-line variety... not even the year the ride opened (which wasn't very long ago). They had Jackie Chan, Melanie Griffith, Tim Allen, Regin, Whoopi Goldberg, and Cher among others. Any time you try to include celebrities, you're asking for your project to become quickly dated. Audiences are fickle... and someone who's cool and popular today has very little chance of still being that in five or ten years. It was an interesting assortment of celebrities.
However, I did get one of my best laughs ever on that ride. The first time we went on it, we didn't expect them to take our picture. None of realized how little we cared for the ride until the end when they showed our picture on a big movie screen, and we all looked like we were somewhere between a daydream and a coma. I've never seen a ride full of more disinterested people. We had to laugh because we didn't even know we had been so bored until we saw a picture of us riding the thing. I would guess there are some people who miss the Superstar Limo... I would also guess that it isn't very many people. Regis and Cher probably miss it.
I haven't heard if Monsters is going to follow the same track, but it is in the same building, so I wouldn't be surprised if it still goes through the same rooms. The Superstar Limo was pretty slow-moving. Monsters is supposed to go into a test opening phase in early January. When someone gets a chance to go on it, let us know what you think and what it's like.
