You're bound to be disappointed. The extended cut simply retains the "When Love is Gone" musical sequence that was excised from the movie before it heads to theaters. It has been retained for TV airings and other home video releases without being promoted as "extended." The extended version runs 89 minutes; the theatrical cut is listed as running 86. Henson talked about it a bit in the commentary, which I mentioned in my review of the fullscreen-only disc.

It's a shame that some really great extras are being lost due to the inclusion of yet another fullscreen presentation. I think Disney should have gone the 2-disc route or just left off fullscreen altogether (those fullscreen-only versions have already been available on DVD for three full years).

That is so dumb! I still have the Widescreen Laserdisc version and it has the song in tact. Why can't the DVD have it too!

Geez. Disney Strikes/Sucks again.

Bwahaha! Even though the X is part of the design motif, I love how it's over the Fullscreen!

Seeing as Carol and Treasure Island won't retain some/all of their previous bonus features, should I do a senseless double-dip and get the old versions if I can get my grubby little hands on them? The Pepe Profiles on the new versions sound rather tacky, as I'll most likely get the four movies simply to have the four movies.

I'm definitely getting Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island if only for widescreen. I may wait on Muppet Movie and the Great Muppet Caper just 'cause I already have them in widescreen.

Oooo! I really wanna get that Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack! The only song from MCC on the 25th anniversary CD is "One More Sleep Till Christmas"

This one obviously covers <b>The Muppet Movie</b>.

What should have been a pretty quick review to do (a movie I've seen plenty of times before, only one bonus feature) wound up taking a lot longer to do, as I wanted to be sure to do a thorough comparison of Sony's and Disney's discs. The result is a fairly significant read, but hopefully something worth the time it takes for those who are interested.

Just finished all three of them; Great jobs as always, Luke & Aaron. Naturally, I'm going to try to pick up all of them, but it all depends on whether my wallet will allow it or not. Judging from the reviews, it seems like Christmas Carol greatly exceeds the other movies in audio/video/extras departments. I don't get it. Why didn't Disney put the same amount of effort into the other three releases? I mean, the least they could've done was be consistant.

I dont care about TMM or TGMC as they had next to noting to begin with but I wish they had ANY MTI bounes "The Tale of the Story Behind the Tail","Hidden Treasure Audio Commentary", EVEN THE SING A LONG! but I geuess its fine (I also dont care about the TMCC making of because if I NEED to see it my older sister has the older copy. Overall I think they are good buys thou.

Just read the review for the 4 Muppet Anniversary editions and checked out my copy of Muppet Treasure Island. Its the first print from Disney with all the mentioned extras (branching to the 11 clips, the short making of, sing-along, etc) and in widescreen cos I got the Region 2 version.

The only OTHER significant differences compared to the current 50th anniversary versions are:
1) Slightly edited....about 2 seconds of audio were cut off to obtain the BBC rating of U...hmmmmm :roll:
2) PAL encoding results in shorter running time of 96 minutes (after 4% speedup) but only slightly noticable since I have the NTSC version on VHS and did a laymans' comparison.
3) Higher bitrate of 6.66Mbps (movie only)

Muppet Movies DVD Commentaries

I was just wondering if anybody here knew why two of the four recent rereleases of the Muppet Movies, Treasure Island and The Muppet Movie, lacked commentaries. Commentaries are one of the best, if not THE best part of a dvd. Sometimes, watching a dvd with the commentary(s) is a lot more fun than watching just the movie. You get to find out all sorts of cool stuff about the movie and have fun listening to the actors, directors, other crew messing around.
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

Because caper and movie dont have one and Disney HAD to put the full screen version on there.

Well, the reviews were very interesting to read! :eye: (Thanks to those who wrote 'em!)

I did end up buying ALL four Muppet movies from Best Buy and still kept my fullscreen versions of the Island & Christmas movie. :p

I was just wondering, for those of you who have purchased The Muppet Christmas Carol, are both versions of the film restored? I know it's blasphemy, but, I really enjoy 'When Love Is Gone', and on my original 2002 (?) DVD, the quality is ghastly. So, I was wondering if I should upgrade, or, not (I recieved a $20 Blockbuster gift card in a raffle :P)

The fullscreen transfer looks considerably worse than the widescreen transfer, just from a cursory glance.
