The Little Mermaid Limited Issue Question

Post by PaulAtreides »

Just bought this item from ebay. Got it. It was sealed and is supposedly an authentic version. But yet, it looks just so fake. At least, the cover.

Can anybody tell me if the cover is naturally low-quality? I mean, from far, it looks okay, but when you look at it up-close, it looks like somebody just made a copy of it. I opened it up. It comes with a little insert with the chapters. The disc looks good enough.

Anybody know if I should be suspicious?

Also, the case is cheap. It's white. I don't know how to say it, but it's like they didn't cut the platic right. There are thin little pieces of plastic that are there on the edges of the case when you open it. I don't know. Either you know what I'm talking about, or you don't.

Hi,
Hard to tell without seeing a picture..Is the insert and cover art very
glossy???? Should not be..What color is the underside of the disk???
Silver, gold, blue??? There are some programs on the web where
you can run you DVD thru and check the regions, if it is all regions
then it is a boot... It should be Regions 1,4..Hope this helps.

No, the cover and the insert are not glossy.

The disc is a kind of light golden color.

I think it's a bootleg. I can play it on my region 2 DVD-Drive. Man, that sucks. I paid 30 dollars for it, too!

Hey, can anybody just confirm to me what color the underside of the DVD is supposed to be? 'Cause I'm returning the DVD to the seller, who has agreed to give me a full refund. But I still want to buy the DVD.

Can anybody who has it just tell me if there's a Buena Vista stamp on the back somewhere? Also, is it true that there's only the chapter insert and no advertisements inside?

Can anybody confirm the quality of the DVD case. I mean, it seems like it was made from low quality material. Closed, it's not perfectly straight. I mean, the front side of it kind of like, goes out in the middle, and goes back in at the edges. It's like, puffy. You get it?

I would really appreciate a response from someone who has it. Thanks a lot.

I own the real Limited Issue Little Mermaid and a fake Lady and the Tramp, so I have the two to compare it to. My 4 year old cousin is actually watching mermaid right now, so I can't look at the actual disc. However, the artwork on the disc is not smooth at all (if you run your finger over where colors change, you can feel it) so it shouldn't be smooth. Also, to my knowledge, all Limited Issue DVD's came with a card the same size as the chapter insert that had a picture of all of the Limited Issue titles with their release dates. My Pinocchio Limited Issue even came with two of these!!! The cover art insert inside the case is on high quality paper. It is kind of toug and very nice. My Lady and the Tramp fake is on paper that is super glossy. The resolution should be fantastic on the cover art. If it isn't, then it is probably not real. I went through a similar case with my LATT DVD, however I bought it on Amazon and paid $60 and the idiotic seller actually sent 2!!!! That was my first clue that it was fake. Then I opened it and found it to be glossy. I returned the one copy and kept the other, but got my full money back!!!

Actually it does come with a promotional coupon, "The offical mail-in certificate" it is about the same size as the chapter insert. All of mine have it. I guess it goes with the red coupon you sometimes see with these limited issues. "Buy 4 DVD get 1 free" something like that. I own all nine limited issues thats how I know. I hope this helps.
To be honest with you, about 99.8% of the Mermaid on ebay are fake, I guess thats why it makes it such a rare DVD. :)

I still have the VHS release so I'm satisfied with that till the Platinum Edition is released. I would just advise everyone to wait for that release. They only made so many of the first Little Mermaid DVD so there can't be that many brand new unopened copies left. It's impossible for me to believe.

I got the same Mermaid DVD. It's a fake, I've examined it to as far as the information stored on the DVD, it's a fake. Ask for your money back.

The LE is pretty much OOP, but it's not virtually impossible to find a LEGIT copy on eBay or any site like that.

There is a site (disney site) where you register your dvds in order to be able to get replacements for $6 if something were to happen to them. I can't find the site right now (I'd love it if someone would post it so I can bookmark it! :) ) Anyway, I had bought Brother Bear on ebay last year or last spring and it showed up with a skip. I called the 800 number posted on that site and found out my copy was a bootleg, too! Grrr! Anyway, the man I talked to was able to tell from the numbers printed on the back of the disc in the center. If someone posts the site, that 800 number might be very helpful for you to find out for sure. Sorry I can't find it right now!!

Ok, I finally found the site:
https://register.go.com/bvhe2/login
I found replacement is $6.95 not $6, but anyway, here is the number (800) 723-4763

Yeah, I sent it back. The seller gave me a full refund. Also, I had bought it as a christmas gift for my little sister. She's 6 and has never seen it before.

As such, I ended up buying the French version of the DVD. Cost my 52 euros, but I got it, and it was authentic, at least, as far as I can tell.

WOW 52 beans! ya might as well just stuck with the other DVD for that much. You would have gotten a better DVD to come soon at the end of next year. I hope you play it 100 times until then to get your moneys worth. :P
I'm glad you got a REAL one though! :)
