Canadian distribution for Ducktales, Chip 'N Dale

Is it just me, or are these impossible to find in retail stores? I've looked in almost every major DVD store in Toronto (multiple HMVs including the 3-story one, Sams, multiple Sunrise, Music World, Bay St. Video, hell I even tried Chapters/Indigo) and nobody has it. Nobody even seems to know about its release last week until I ask them and they look it up in the computer.

So, are other Canadian cities having the same problem? What's going on with the distribution?

I live in Calgary, Alberta and I had a hard time finding Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. I found DuckTales at Future Shop, I am hoping Walmart might have Chip 'n Dale.

Most Futureshop's have DuckTales; as said, Chip 'N Dale's a bit harder to find. Check on their website for which stores have it in stock.

Out west Future Shop and A&B Sound have had Ducktales. I havent seen Rescue Rangers though.

I'll have to check Future Shop or Best Buy next time I'm out in the suburbs. There aren't a whole lot of chains of that type in downtown Toronto, unfortunately.

Well, you could just order it from Amazon or Walmart.com ya' know. Also I know in many stores you can order a DVD from them. Maybe you should try that?

I haven't seen them anywhere yet but then again I haven't looked extensivewly. I've looked in HMV, MusicWorld and Sunrise Records (two or three stores of each) and nothing but I haven't been to Wal-Mart yet. (note: no not a continuity error if you see the new DVD thread, I never actually went in to buy Madagascar)
Today I'm going to check Futureshop and possibly Best Buy for DuckTales.

I generally avoid buying regular, R1 DVDs online that I could get in a retail store; unless it would involve considerable savings (which it rarely does, I've found, in the case of Amazon; though there are a few exceptions). Even in the case of imports (which I frequently do buy online), there are 2 or 3 stores in Toronto that have a very impressive catalogue of DVDs; so I can often find what I want (at the same or lower price) without resorting to online stores.

My aversion to too much non-essential online buying of DVDs has to do mostly with potential shipping damage. Plus, even in retail stores, I often find DVDs with discs that are off their hub rattling around inside. But at least in a store, I can examine the thing I'm buying beforehand.

Can't you order it from DeepDiscountDVD.com? With the 20% discount they're having this week, it brings it down to $19.19. I think shipping to Canada is a flat $4.95...I think.

I had the same problem trying to find the Cinderella Gift Set. The regular PE was highly available, and hard to avoid, but I ended up getting the Gift set from blockbuster, of all places. I haven't seen Chip & Dale yet but I've seen Ducktales at HMV and Future Shop. Music World too, i think. Good luck on your searches!

This afternoon I'm going for a walk to Futureshop in the freezing cold. I'm hoping they will have a copy but I'm not going to get my hopes too high.

4 Hours Later...

I got it! I went to Futureshop and they had three copies tucked away so I got one for $26.99 (not bad but I swear I saw it advertised for $24.99).
I didn't see a single copy of Chip 'n' Dale though.

I've been wondering, has Best Buy/ Futureshop (apparently they are actually the same company now) been kinda ignoring Disney's classic characters? ...or is everyone?

...or does Walt Disney Home Entertainment in Canada not care enough to market certain titles?

Finding the two recent Classic Cartoon Favourites DVDs as well as their TV toon sets has been almost near impossible.

I searched high and low for the CCF discs and finally found one store that had them. Best Buy didn't to my surprise while all of their other new releases got the front shelves. Did they run out? For previous CCF sets on the day of their release they never got to go on the new release shelves but immediately put in the kids section.

For the new toons sets I searched HMV, Sunrise, Musicworld and none seem to carry it but I did find it at Best Buy. Sure it's been out a week but it still was nowhere near the new release section. How long has Desperate Housewives been out and it's still a new release? Okay so it's pretty popular but others on the shelf with it are just as old and not as popular.

Well Futureshop has it filed in with the TV sets alphabetically near the bottom of one rack. It was kinda sad.

I think traditional animation altogether is getting the "shaft" I suppose. When Tarzan and ENG came out it wasn't advertised all that much and there weren't a lot of copies to be found although Madagascar is everywhere and Pixar movies too when they are released.

Okay I'm done now. I'm just noticing the lack of fanfare with some Disney DVDs... but hey... atleast the traditional animated Disney fare gets more recognition than some of Disney's live-action classics.

I should have went to more than one Wal-Mart but I only went to one and they never had it but then again they never had the Cinderella boxset either. The best Wal-Mart for DVDs in my city is actually the closest but since I live in the urban sprawl part of the city there is no bus route there yet and it's half out in the country so it's a loooong walk in the cold.

I ended up getting the two DVDs at Cinema 1 for about $13.99 a piece I believe (more than I paid for the others at $10.99 to $11.99). Next time I'll go to Wal-Mart even though I like avoiding them. (They treated me poorly when I wanted to return a CD... sure with piracy everywhere they were suspicious but the CD inside was damaged and they had no other copies so what was I supposed to do? wait? ...their cd selection is poor)

You should check Costco. They have at least 50 copies of each ducktale and chip in the store near me. I am in BC. Price is $24 something. And they have some new boxsets I never saw before at anywhere else. The 7 dvds Disney Princess boxset for $75 and 7 dvds Disney Classic boxset for $56. I think they are only made for Costco. Good Luck finding yours!
