Chicken Little made an estimated $32 million in its second weekend for an $80,774,000 million total. That's amazing, considering many people predicted the sky would fall on WDFA

I just saw this today and agree with those who said that the critics were wrong. Chicken Little is one of the better Disney films in recent years. I'd rank it 4th in the new millenium of Disney classics after Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, and Fantasia 2000. The animation was really adorable in its own right. It really felt like something out of WDFA despite being in CGI. While the story was kind of predictable, the script was hilarious. I think Runt may be my favorite character in the film (major kudos to Steve Zahn for that amazing vocal work). I also enjoyed all of the songs in the film (especially "It's the End of the World"), and found the 70's disco cues to be hysterical. People have been accusing this of being too kiddie, but I felt it had more adult references than most other Disney animated films minus Emperor and Lilo (and I don't mean adult in the seedy Dreamworks way, but adult has in references and one liners adults would find amusing). I'm glad it's doing as well as it's doing because it's a charming little movie that I'm already eager to own on DVD (here's hoping it's a feature-packed two-disc set considering how successful the film is already).

'Chicken' clucks at rivals

Post by musicradio77 »

The sky may be falling, but not the ranking for "Chicken Little" at the box office.

For the second week in a row, the paranoid poultry caper topped the box office, raking in an estimated $32 million this weekend, for a total nest egg of $80.8 million in its first 10 days of release.

Disney's first fully computer-animated feature produced in-house has outperformed expectations. This weekend's performance leaves "Chicken Little" less than $10 million shy of the $90 million Disney hoped to have safely in the bank before Harry Potter casts his spell on the box office when it opens in wide release on Friday.

None of the next three flicks on the list - all in their premiere weekend - made even half of the barnyard blockbuster's second-week haul.

The kiddie fantasy flick "Zathura" came in second with $14 million. The Jennifer Aniston thriller "Derailed" brought in $12.8 million in its first weekend, edging out "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," with $12.5 million.

This may be an understatement, but I'll say it anyway, CL deserved to be tops out of all these other films for sure. 8) Harry Potter will cast his magic for sure on everyone, but I hope despite this, HP and CL will still share the same top 3 slots in the box office.

I wonder which will be the scores this weekend when H.P. make his appearance at the cinemas

Do you think that CL will shamely fall or he will do any good fight?

The 3-D version of the movie earned more than double the amount of the normal version per screen on its opening weekend despite (or perhaps because of) an additional cost of $1 to $1.50 per ticket.

I think Chicken Little could hold up surprisingly well. Harry Potter 4 is PG-13 and Chicken Little is G. Plus, there will be a lot of sellouts for Harry Potter wich could result in Parents with children ending up seeing Chicken Little instead. But that's just a theory, it could also be completely crushed and baked for Hogwarts' Breakfast.

I wonder why Luke hasn't been posting CL's success on the main page? Come to think of it, besides the reviews, a rather lack of Disney news lately at all.

Isaac15, you posted those EXACT same critics reviews like, two pages ago. T'was very pointless to repost them.

$87,481,294 so far. PatrickvD's theory about how it will do once Harry Potter is released makes a lot of sense. It won't do as well, but it will still bring in some good money.

Disneykid, I hope you're right about the 2-disc DVD release. This movie has earned one, especially with all the money it has made so soon.

Well I went over to that link (thanks!) and all I can say is Oh Brother! I read like the first 2 reviews and thought what movie did they see????

One person saying it should be rated "R" because it is too violent?! Another person saying it was boring? I was in a theater packed full of people and no one was walking out... they all cheered at the end.... whatever!

The proof is in the ticket sales.

Well here in Glendale you have to pay a whopping $4 extra to see it in 3-D ($8 for a regular ticket and $12 for 3-D experience). I am not sure how expensive it is gonna be at El Capitan. I still have not been able to make time to see it a 2nd time in 3-D....

I agree. Think about how you think of films. the way this is becoming a hit is because of word of mouth; not due to critics reviews (which, as we've seen, have been mostly negative). Parents will keep it in the back of their minds that CL and the new Harry Potter are going to be the films to take the kids to on the weekends. Hopefully they will see both and not choose Potter over CL when the going gets tough! That is an interesting observation too - if Harry Potter sells out, some parents will opt for CL.
