QUIT BICKERING! Step one-"getting to know you"

Post by Just Myself »

I know it's not a huge widespread thing, but a lot of us are letting the forum go with relentless bickering, myself included. Me and Memnv, Memnv and Alan, Memnv and Laz(who got banned because of bickering and flames), DVDJunkie and Escapay. Guys, we have got to find some way to reconcile and make the forum peaceful again. It may take awhile, but hopefully the ultimate reward is we get our forum back as a designated friendly enviroment.

Step one-"getting to know you"

A lot of feuds are because a long forgotten feud still haunts you. You may have said something when you first joined that offended yourself or others and now you and a certain member always argue over nothing in every topic. So let's try and figure out what went wrong, and make up.
Cheers,

Just a head's up: Lazario has not been banned. Looks like he's taken himself out of circulation again, though.

I posted about this in another thread (topic about restoration of Disney movies) but it seems that it is easy for people to get in fights when they are behind the computer - for one, they may be trying to show off their knowledge about something and when you are not face to face with someone it is so easy to just be a jerk.

I am in a pirate reinactment group that has a group email list where I used to be active. Now I am so busy I don't have time. But when I go there to catch up on what has been happening, I can't get through more than 2 wks of posts before discovering a fight has broken out on that list. Usually, as I can read them from the start, it appears one person says something, the responder than takes it wrong or out of context than from what it was intended and feels compelled to respond back in a negative way.

Although the dynamics of that email list are a bit different than a bulletin board situation, I think the same remedy might work - people need to take a step back and before firing off the broadside, think: "is it absolutely necessary for me to get into a turf war over this?" And second, just don't respond at all and then the "fight" never starts in the first place.

I think maybe this original first post on this topic should become a sticky, especially if constant bickering is a problem. It is really a shame this happens, but I think it is also a part of human nature to take people for granted when you do not have to deal with them in person.

Memnv and I have stopped bickering for now. However, one post is all that takes to start the process all over again...

Yes, I agree bickering doesn't accomplish anything.

So here's something to know about me, it will help you understand a lot:

Homophobia, fear, hatred, and ignorance are 100 percent wrong in my book. And anyone who believes in it, to me, is a bad person. And I don't trust anything they say after that. People who preach it, in my opinion, should be regarded as evil and stupid and wrong.

Very simple. No excuse for people to get out of hand.
