Just a bump to increase visability of this thread, and to note that I have updated the list in the first post to reflect that Cinderella has the usual Platinum booklike slipcover -- with velcro!

Just thought of something. Disney knows how "valuable" some people consider slipcovers to be. So a really great marketing plan would be to have ALL their releases (even P&S Catalog titles) have some type of limited edition slipcover. And you CAN'T get them through the Customer Service phoneline thingy. Then the slipcover-crazy collectors will have to buy DVDs they don't want because of the slipcover! Disney will make millions just by releasing an inferior product (P&S catalogs for example) with a shiny limited edition slipcover! Slipcover admirers all over the world will buy DVDs by the dozen, and have them sit all nice and pretty in a row. Who cares for the movie when the slipcover is a better thing to watch for 90 minutes?
And then I think of all the trees that died to make a slipcover, and I'm glad Disney doesn't do it...

Wow, people. Just wow. Two brand new slipcovers -- with single DVD discs included inside them as freebie bonuses -- are hitting stores on Tuesday, and I've added these hotly-anticipated pieces of cardboard to the list post. Who cares about second discs when you can have the beautiful cover art duplicated to put around the case that shows you the cover art!? Run, don't walk, to own these wonderful pieces of art; maybe even frame them! I know I will.

about custom slipcovers
What happened to the person who was making custom slipcovers for Disney DVDs? I have been waiting for some Cinderella ones.

Why so many posts about this thread?
Well now I feel ripped off because I have now just started to collect these titles and discovered they should have slip covers, but do not. I am planning to call Disney now since I have Bambi Platinum, Dumbo, and Alice in Wonderland ME and none have slip covers. Hopefully they will help me out like they have others on this list.Luke wrote:Do we really need to ask questions about or provide answers about slipcovers on certain titles...when the entire list in the very first post is up-to-date? Amazingly enough, this thread has over 5000 views.
However, I only now accidentally stumbled upon this thread about the slip covers (I was in the trade section and someone mentioned slip covers and provided this link.)
As much as technical aspects of the movies are important, people here are avid collectors and many would care about obtaining the entire packaging that Disney intended. I think frankly Disney should be consistently releasing the slip covers the entire time, but since we can't address that gripe, I think at least we can alert prospective buyers to this problem. I think this thread therefore should be made a sticky if possible, due to this problematic issue.
As for whether or not the slipcovers list is up to date, I guess the confusion lies in that it is a list of ONLY those DVDs that got released with slip covers and the list begins after the release of B&TB, which necessitates one to know the chronological release dates of all the releases in order to determine whether or not a slip cover was provided. For example Snow White Platinum is not listed, nor is Dumbo, Peter Pan or Pinnochio, but nothing is said specifically about these releases. One is left to wonder if those DVDs just were not considered when the list was made, were released earlier, or whether or not they just did not come with slipcovers. So if the list could reflect all the animation releases and state whether or not the release came with a slip cover, that would probably resolve alot of questions and people posting over and over.
Anyway that is just my take on this thread and why I've now read about 9 pages here, trying to determine whether or not I should call Disney for slipcovers.

Re: Why so many posts about this thread?
One shouldn't be left to wonder because Beauty and the Beast was the first Disney DVD with a slipcover, and as the list is entirely up-to-date through last month's releases, all one needs to do is look on the list and see if it's there. If it's not, it doesn't have a slipcover. I can certainly see the collectibility of the slipcovers, but it's just a little depressing when people care more about that than anything else regarding DVDs - that's happened here a few times.Pluto Region1 wrote:As for whether or not the slipcovers list is up to date, I guess the confusion lies in that it is a list of ONLY those DVDs that got released with slip covers and the list begins after the release of B&TB, which necessitates one to know the chronological release dates of all the releases in order to determine whether or not a slip cover was provided. At least this thread wasn't bumped to ask a "Does this have one?" question but to generally discuss the nature and importance of slipcovers. Kudos!

Ah, now I am reading this thread backwards and I am really going to get into trouble if I don't get this report for work done. You guys are KILLING me.... ok so now I got the answer - Dumbo doesn't come with a slip cover. And is someone saying that I can no longer call Disney and get them or was that a "what if" for the idea of marketing limited edition slipcoversrexcrk wrote:'Tis a shame Monster's, Inc. didn't come with a slipcover. All the other Pixar movies (excluding Toy Story and Toy Story 2) have one.
But I could have sworn I saw Monsters Inc (for $12.99) tonight with a cardboard slide-on slip cover in the used DVD section of Game Stop.
They also had a Peter Pan Gold Collection for $12.99, but unfortunately it was missing the booklet so I didn't buy it.

Re: Why so many posts about this thread?
Well that is definitive enough then; if I do not see it listed, then it didn't come with it. Thanks! So I guess I just need to worry about Alice In Wonderland and Bambi. That's not too big a list. I hope I can get them to ship me slipcovers!Luke wrote:the list is entirely up-to-date through last month's releases, all one needs to do is look on the list and see if it's there. Update on ordering slipcovers
Well, I called the number (1-800-723-4763) and requested the slipcovers I am missing (Mary Poppins, Bambi and Alice in Wonderland). To up my chances, I told them that I was the wife of a Disney Cast member and had bought these DVDs without slip covers and could they please provide me with slipcovers.
I was told by the operator that she had to go ask the supervisor if this was something they could do (provide me with slip covers). After a good long 5 minutes, the woman came back and said that they would do this, but that they don't normally do this.
So I do not know if I am getting the slip covers thanks to saying I was wife of a cast member, or if they just made an exception just for me (because they don't get that many requests). In any case, I believe our window of opportunity with Disney to get free slipcovers is just about over.
From now on, I think we should all just all plan on buying them with the slip covers right when they first come out, because I dont think they are going to honor too many more requests.

Is Bambi 2 scheduled to have a cardboard slipcover?
Hello. This is my first post, but I've been a "lurker" for a long time here. I am in love with all things Disney, and have an extensive DVD collection.
My problem is, I like them with the cardboard slipcovers - and sometimes when you buy them at Wal-Mart they don't have one on. Before I go to multiple stores to "check" if slipcovers are even available...I thought I'd ask here if anyone knows if they're supposed to have one or not.
My Tarzan II DVD doesn't have one, and I got that one from the Disney Movie Club.
Thanks for any help! I really appreciate it.
Katie

Tarzan II did come with a slipcover, and Disney will probably send you a free one if you request it (although they have a limit of 5 requested items like this.)
I don't know if Bambi II will have one, but they seem to be putting them on many of the new releases... Check back here when it is released, before you buy one.
