Aladdin from Agrabah wrote:Well, if they'd like to receive a sexual message from The Little Mermaid, I wonder why they didn't notice that Ariel is completely naked in the scene that Ursula gives her legs and she tries to swim up to the surface-which is very logical IMO. Imagine Ariel wearing an underwear coming out of the blue.
Also, the scene where she comes out of the water and thrusts against the rock with the huge splash behind her, that was also quite sexual. I found this to be one of Disney's darkest and most sexual films, however the priest's "erection" never stuck out to me.
Ariel is a deliberately sexual character, at least in her appearance and her struggles against her father for independence...the central theme of the movie is children growing into adults and leaving home. I think that's part of why her PERSONALITY is so youthful...because her design is very sexual, and they wanted her to be appealing beyond her appearance. She's an innocent, somewhat naive character...going to Ursula and trusting her, for example. Even the scene where she gets legs is played for laughs to balance out the fact that she's only wearing her shells...she has a childlike fascination with these new extremities and is a little awkward on her feet at first. She's a very different sort of deliberately sexual heroine, than say, Jasmine, who realizes that men find her appealing and uses her allure as a weapon against "Prince Ali" and Jafar.

The Rescuer's goof wasn't done by Disney, it was done in the transfer department being as only a select number of the original reels have the mistake. And Disney was quick to correct when they found the error.

What's with sex talk, let's get back on topic.

Thank God it turned out to be a talk about sexual heroines and not some old priest's errection!!!!!! :o
And I insist : Who on earth is sooooo sick to notice that "thingy" in the movie and not Ariel's nudity, which is covered by shadows but still every little detail is obvious(I have to say that I find that scene more "sensuous" than "sexual"; that's why it bothers noone, and it's very beautiful as well! :D )And yes the scene with Ariel's hair bursting out-and still some "things" from behind being obvious- or the scene with the great "splash!" are unique in Disney history, they take your breath away! They're magical and sensuous without being offensive. Remember that the movie was released in the 80's, which by many people is the "sexiest" and "daring" decade; Ariel's haircut is OBVIOUSLY 80's like!! (Remember Christina Applegate who played the daughter in "Married with Children"? Her hair is totally Ariel!!!).
If you want sthing offensive watch Titan A.E., where everyone can see Cale's "back" without a reason. That happens in The Road to El Dorado and Sinbad too!! Those people are sick! And for those who don't know these films, I tell you they're animated motion pictures from Dreamworks!

Hehe...yeah. Those old urban legends just need to go away.

I agree! The sensuality of TLM is very tastefully presented, IMO.

Ariel's gowns are also very '80s-like...check out those humongously puffy sleeves! They look like a ton of prom dresses from that time. One thing I love about Disney movies is that lots of them have elements of the time that they were made, but also have something 'timeless' about them. Ariel, for a number of reasons, is a very different sort of Princess from the Princesses that preceded her (and not just that she's more sensual), and she does have a sort of an '80s 'stamp' on her, just like Snow White certainly seems to be a character of the '30s, but the movies and stories hold up....the different elements of 'the time' don't DATE the movies so much as ensure that each one has its own unique sort of magic.

the only one I've seen of those 3 is El Dorado, and I remember thinking "this movie is being marketed to kids and families...why am I seeing what I'm seeing?!"

Disney Princess Ariellen wrote:I'm almost willing to bet that they will do just that when the PE release comes out...they reanimated the dust in The Lion King that supposedly said "SEX" (it didn't; it was SFX...a nod to the special effects department), and they significantly lowered the volume of Aladdin's voice during the supposed "Good teenagers, take off your clothes" bit, which was another urban legend. So it doesn't seem to matter if the rumor is true or not; they'll change the movie to get rid of the talk...which really only makes them look guilty...
Yeah, that scene will be gone when the PE is released. I'll be very, very surprised if it's kept in. VERY. The funny thing will be seeing of Musker and Clements discuss it in the commentary or not. They discussed Aladdin's "urban legend" in its' commentary, but this is a little more perverted than Aladdin's rumor, so it'll be amuzing to see if TLM's "rumor" is even mentioned.

I Love the 80s: 3D 1989 on in one hour!

Post by Pluto Region1 »

Someone said they wanted to know when it would be on again; looks like they are repeating the entire series tonight. The 1989 episode (the episode of the release of Little Mermaid) will be on in one hour 9pm PST, on VH1.

And VH1 has a habit of repeating the SAME SHOWS over...and over...and over. :)

Do you know about how far into the episode they get to TLM? (It's 12:39am EST as I type this...do you know if I've missed it?)

If I recall correctly, it's the second thing they comment on. You'll just want to start watching from the moment the episode comes on so that you don't miss anything.

Gheezz, I really wonder why do we have this conversation almost every six-months :P

What I really puzzles me is why does this people is able to watch the "horrible and sinful" image or scene when none of the normal viewers had?
I mean, it´s a sort of special gift--because I want one of those, but to know the lotto numbers  -- or is just the sin on their very minds that makes them like Frollo and they see corruption everywhere except within?

Guess what, I've seen that part on "The Little Mermaid" on "I Love the 80's 3D". I've seen the part in one of the guests talks about sexual innuendos used in "The Little Mermaid". The whole segment went crazy on this one. But on the whole, Ariel was considered a sexy heroine. In the middle of the film, some scenes are half nudity and some of this stuff. If I've seen the whole film, I might go back to watch "Cinderella" and "Snow White". Those two Disney classics does not have any sexual innuendo in it.
