Silly Symphonies Treasure

Post by rnrlesnar »

I'm tempted to just go ahead and buy the Silly Symphonies DVD off of EBAY to add to my collection. There are a few on there that I really like, while the most I don't remember, but would probably recognize if I saw them. So is it worth paying $40-$50 for?

It might be a good strategy to wait a few weeks since it's coming out in (at least) region 2 in November.

Even if you don't want a region 2 set, you may still find that the supply of region 1 boxes will go up and prices come down as soon as the R2 version is released. I bet that a lot of people who are not in the USA but still bought the region 1 version are going to sell off their tins now when they can get the set in their own region.

I don't have the DVD and it is my most wanted Disney DVD so I would think the $40 would be very worth it. Especially from what I have read and heard about from other owners.

Personally, though, I would rather buy it through a respectable, online store of some sort, but no place seems to guarantee in to be in stock. DVDboxoffice.com offers it for $34.95, but makes it clear that the availability of the title is iffy.

It will probably be sometime before I will be able to order it off e-bay. Oh, I could kick myself for not grabbing it up while it was still available, but I didn't realize it was going to be gone so fast. I didn't have this website to inform me. :-p

Once Upon A Toy, the big toy store at Downtown Disney had a bunch of the Treasures tins when I was there. I don't remember which ones in particular though. Try calling WDW Merchandise and you may be able to get it from them.

I went ahead and bought them on eBay and don't regret that decision because I like to have the original of things. I like most of the things on there, even if only from an animation history perspective. I think the SS are a lot of fun (Silly Symphonies, not the Schutzstaffeln) and some of my all-time fave toons are on there.

They are coming out in R2, and I believe SS & MMILC is coming out here February 2004 (check out DVDBits for R4 info).

It is up to you. We don't know what format the newer releases (outside of r1) will take, so if you just want the toons and not the tins, wait and see. If you like having all the original tins lined up (like me :P), then you can find some great deals on eBay.

I agree. This one is truly a great collection and if you can only find it in this price range you may as well bite the bullet.
