is it worth it?

Post by disneyfella »

alright, i've come to the decision that i can wait for the laserdisc material to come to dvd (the lion king dvd did not help in this decision). you guys were extremely helpful and i wanted to thank you.

however, i have another question that i was hoping some of you could help me with. i was interested in purchasing The Straight Story on dvd and was wondering, "is it worth it?". i like the movie and all (i own the vhs), but is the widescreen and audio transfer any good? also, how about that trailer? is there any news of a special ( or for that matter better edition) of it to come out? i can pick it up at my local hastings for $25 and i'm not sure i'm prepared to pay that for only a theatrical trailer. it IS however in super widescreen. any thoughts on this?

what are the pros and cons on this dvd?

Pros:

-Good transfer
-Anamorphic
-Great 5.1 track

Cons:
-Few Extras
-No Scene Selection(due to the director wanting one whole experince)

But,buy it anaway.A great movie.And one question:Will this be a Criertion(sp) release?

Doubt we'll see anything else. Criterion could do it - but there's such a small cast and of course, the man who makes the movie is dead. Lynch has done Special Editions of some - but I highly doubt this would be one of them.

Audio and video are first-rate. The trailer's good. The movie's very good.

The photography is beautiful - very nice Angelo Badalamenti score and wonderful tone...seeing it in widescreen is the only way to go. I can't imagine watching the film in Pan & Scan.

Go for it!
