While I am looking forward to the release of Lady and the Tramp, I hope the "AND MORE" portion contains MUCH more. Though I will buy the PE, I do think that more and better bonus features should be added.

Did anyone notice the comparison of Tramp in the trailer after he's been "restored"? Now he's brown and he used to be gray. Was he always brown? I'm so used to seeing him gray, and now that they restored it, the color seems off to me.

omg, Tramp IS Brown!

Post by disneyboy »

I went and watched Tramp scenes in the OLD Gold DVD, and Tramp is INDEED brown! The scene where he wakes up, finds 'snob hill', and passes Lady et al, talking. But when he finally enters Ladys yard to talk to her, Jock, Trusty, hes GRAY! So this MUST have been a flaw from '55! Walt must have been soooooo busy w/ DL and MMC i guess he didnt know Tramp had 2 diffrent colors.

Surely there'll be a Leonard Maltin introduction where he explains that the Italian restaurant owners sterotypical dialect was humour of the time and not intended to cause offence. We can look back on this film and realise how far we have come.

It's most likely coming out in Region 2 as...

1. It's listed on Disney.co.uk as a March 2006 release

2. I have an odd habit of looking inside DVD boxes in empty case shops and looking at the inserts, and in Blockbuster today, I saw a Lady and the Tramp advert inside the Cinderella DVD (which I can't be bothered getting since I have the Region 1 gift set).

3. A video trailer was classified at the BBFC.

Laziness has kept me away from this thread for too long!

* “La La Loo” – an alternate abandoned concept for the arrival of the baby
* “Turning the Tables” – Tramp describes what it would be like if dogs were the masters and people were the pets.

• FINDING LADY: THE ART OF THE STORYBOARD
Look inside the storyboard process (credited to Walt’s innovation), and explore Walt’s ingenious contributions to the development of this unique filmmaking tool.

• 1943 ORIGINAL LADY STORY CONCEPT
This is a fascinating, extremely rare “what if” vision of the story. This exciting and unique bonus feature takes you back in time over 50 years, to the Disney Studio during a creative “golden age” of animation. Here, you’ll find newly discovered storyboards that reveal a different approach to Walt’s unforgettable classic. What few know is that there was an early version of the film without Tramp, Jock Trusty and the famous spaghetti scene. At last, this fascinating story concept is revealed.

• LADY’S PEDIGREE: THE MAKING OF LADY AND THE TRAMP
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at this iconic masterpiece. This entertaining featurette includes a glimpse of Walt’s hometown, which was the inspiration for the setting of LADY AND THE TRAMP. In rare footage from the Disney archives, Walt tours the small town of his youth, and there is much more on entire process of the film’s creation.
I can't wait for all of these. The Art of the Storyboard and Original Story Concept featurettes should be interesting to watch. I hope that the making-of will be organized like the other Platinums have been lately (focusing on story, animation, music, and voices), and as always, deleted scenes are a fun inclusion.

I don't really think I added anything to the discussion with that, since everyone's saying the same thing, but I guess that's all that can be said until we get more news. I just hope that Disney keeps that beautiful coverart.
Luke wrote:• AND MORE
This scares me. Obviously, I'm hoping for the best (commentary, trailers, art galleries, etc.), but I'm afraid Disney might do what they did with Cinderella and make a bunch of extras that have nothing to do with the movie itself. I can imagine opening the DVD to find a "<strike>Cinderella</strike> Lady & the Tramp Stories presented by <strike>ESPN</strike> Animal Planet" featurette! If Disney can make this DVD right, then that's great, but if they screw it up, I can tell we're going to have a lot of angry members.

This is another PE that I won't be here to buy it in person since I'll be out of the country.

I'll just have to tell my mom to buy it from me; the same way she did with TLK. :)

I was wondering. Has it ever happened before that Disney promised more, and actually delivered (beside more games)? I really am worried that this is all that Disney has to offer for such a fantastic film.

Ummm... yes it has:

Aladdin Platinum Edition DVD Press Release

The original press release ONLY offered games, music videos, commentaries, deleated scenes and "brilliant" restoration! But aside from that we ended up getting that AWESOME "A Diamond in the Rough: The Making of Aladdin" which is easily one of the best documentaries EVER put on a DVD. We also got that nice Alan Menkan feature and trailes as well.

Bambi Platinum Edition Press Release

That press release didn't include the 58 minute documentary or the restoration feature.

I'm not saying "Lady and the Tramp" is going to get A LOT more than this, but I'm definitely expecting more.

Though the name did change, we can assume "THE MAKING OF BAMBI: ORIGINAL CIRCLE OF LIFE" is the documentary that did make it to the DVD. But yes, the restoration featurette is missing there. Of course, sometimes Disney announces things and they disappear, like The Santa Clause Special Edition commentary, or Aladdin Disney Channel Circle of Stars music video. More often, it involves a DTS track being present or not. The inclusion of something unannounced and exclusion of something that is announced are both somewhat rare, but if they're going to happen, it's quite likely to happen on a Platinum Edition, where the efforts to compile bonus material are above and beyond the usual.

The cover artwork has been revised slightly (for the better). The colors are warmer and brighter, Peg actually looks like Peg, Trusty no longer looks stoned, Jock no longer looks hypnotized, and Tony and Joe look more dimensional. The original artwork is on the left while the revised one is on the right:

By the looks of the banners, it seems Disney's decided to stick with the "Platinum" scheme for the Platinum banner. This basically shoots down the idea lots of us had that the Platinums with primarily animal casts would have yellow/golden banners. I personally don't care since, to be honest, silver (aka platinum) looks better with the purple motif, anyway.

I'm so excited for this release! It's a blind buy for me (yes I never got exposed to all those great Disney films as a child), but seeing as how it's by Walt I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Wow, awesome finds, Disney Villain! The "Unleash the Fun" pic is either from the booklet as you said, or from the inside of the slipcover. Since the DVD booklets are pretty detailed (and that pic adds nothing extra to the press release), I'd say it's the interior of the slipcover. I find rather amusing that Disney's billing their marketing campaign for this "as big as Bambi" considering that was nothing compared to Cinderella's campaign (seriously, I couldn't go anywhere without seeing an ad for that DVD, not that I minded, of course). That picture of the spaghetti plate is beautiful and is exactly the kind of thing I had in mind for Disney's next line of DVDs (have a classy icon represent the film in question such as an apple, glass slipper, rose, etc.).
