well after the lion king platimun edition which kind of annoyed me i ot think about how im really excited for the older movies to come beacuse they cant add a new seen and there will be tons more archival and more interviews than stupid fluff i think that they will be much much better look at snow white if thats how much stuuf they can get from the first disney movie they probably can get the same amount on the others like 101 dalmatians and lady and the tramp and cinderella , i really hope tose ones r much better beacuse all the history behind them in which they can put together an excellent set unlike the lion king which isnt bad but not great
o well only couple more years ne thoughts

Yeah.

I think more could be done even with a film that's only 9 years old like Lion King, but I hope that more IS done with the others. If Snow White was 90% Substantial Making-of/10% Kiddie Stuff, and Beauty and the Beast was maybe 70% Substance/30% Kiddie, and Lion King is maybe 30% Substantial/70% Stupid Stuff...hopefully, with films from the '50s and '60s that Walt worked on, and then when they eventually get to the films like Pinocchio, they'll have it down to a science.

In some ways, though, it doesn't seem like the Platinum line is any better than just the double-disc Special Editions they're going to be doing with more frequency for animated classics.

I totally agree. I thought the Sleeping Beauty Special Edition was much better than The Lion King Platinum Edition mainly because it had more relevant stuff. And I absolutely loved the "Four Artists, One Tree" thing.

I would like to buy 101 Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp. I saw 101 Dalmations on VHS 9 years ago. I hope Disney will include some historyic "making of" featurettes and documentaries in the DVDs. A commentary track would be nice too.

I hope when they bring lady and tramp out on DVD they include the anamorphic 2:35.1 version and 1:33.1 OARs that would be neat! I haven't seen Lady and Tramp in its original 1:33.1 OAR.

wait wait wait, wasn't lady and the tramp originally "technorama 70"? that means it was meant to be seen in widescreen format 2.35:1 . everyone has seen the fullscreen 1.33:1 format....it was the video transfer. the limited issue dvd does have the original aspect ratio (2.35:1) on it.....i think that's the original aspect ratio......a little help please?

also, i thought the menus of sleeping beauty sucked major royal booty. they could've done a bit more with it (which i'm sure they would've had they intended it to be a platinum line), however i feel that they would've only put more fluff on it if they were to make it a platinum disc. don't get me wrong, it's a nice little disc...it's just the quiality of Lion King disc seems a bit superior. o.k. even i'm confused by what i just typed........

i really liked the menus of disc one on lion king..........nothing else......

i really liked the historical extras on sleeping beauty.........nothing else........

and with that i'm done;)

No, it was Cinemascope. But 2.35:1 is the original aspect ratio.

Lady and the Tramp was the First and Only Disney feature to have been shot in both Cinemascope not Technirama 70 and FullScreen! so both ratios are correct! about the menus of sleeping beauty I agree non the less. Disc 2 could have been the cottage, maleficent's castle and so forth ala snow white! but on well at least we got archival stuff!

Are you sure that what you saw was really the original fullscreen edition?

I have examined some video tape transfers, and also the European (R2) full screen DVD edition. Close examination reveals that they have all been pan&scanned from a cinemascope master. Also the panning and scanning haven't been done identically for all releases. You can spot some more or less obvious cropping differences.

So I bet you haven't really seen the original full screen version unless you saw it at the movies in the 50's. Even then, the full screen version didn't get much circulation, since most movie theatres had been converted for cinemascope when the film was released.

It makes me wonder what happened to the original full screen version after that. And why have the home video versions been extracted from the cinemascope version rather than from the (presumably much better) full screen version?

I really like the menus!!! I think the book opening and the menus being on the pages is nice and differnt.

Sleeping Beauty is an excellent disc, one of the best. Especially the US release with it's commentary, trailers and small presentation additions.

I think the menus are fine. Perhaps they would be different if it was designed as a Platinum DVD from the go, but it if was I doubt we would have got the original "Once Upon A Dream Making Of" which while short, is crammed with useful information. They'd probably just create a new section filled with short interview snippits for the making of. I'm also sure we would have dropped one of the longer featurettes, perhaps Grand Canyon in favor of more games.

The question is, when/if it comes to normal DVD Platinum, will they keep it the same or change it? In fact, when Snow White comes out again, will they keep that the same or change it to make it more mainstream?

As extras for ALL movies get more sexy, they will probably be tacking on more and more stuff to the Disney Platinum releases. Maybe one day they will get so sophisticated as to have 2 separate releases: one for the families and another for the collectors.

Er. Lady. We had that before, but then Disney stopped them for more family friendly 'fluff' on the two disc sets.

LOL, what the heck is that supposed to mean? Extras for all movies are getting sexy? Does that make the Lion King DVD a case of premature ejaculation?

I hope that if they ever decide to make a The Rescuers Special Platinum Edition that they will put extra attention to it, unlike the new release...

2099net, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Had Sleeping Beauty been platinum, I don't thnk it would have suffered in the way you are implying. If Disney wanted to put a new Making Of, and more fluffy games, they would have on the SE. However, I think they decided to put together a disc they thought would appease everyone, after all, like TLK, BATB and the rest, this was Sleeping Beauty's only DVD release, it is not like Alice and Pocahontas which already got DVD releases, and as many have been saying, I think/hope the older releases like Snow White and the Seven Dwarves will be the best releases to date...

Uh I meant to say Cinderella... this will hopefully be a killer release!

I loved the Sleeping Beauty DVD, but I feel that they wasted a lot of breathing room for the film with the pan and scan version.
