DMC Exclusives Wave 3

Post by goofystitch »

I just recieved and viewed the three new releases. The best by far is "Shipwrecked." I think it's from the late 60's/early 70's. It has a similar feel to "Treasure Island" and some of the films produced during Walt's time. The second best is "Rocketman," the quirky comedy about a mission to Mars. You have to have a weird sense of humor to enjoy it, but it's filled with lots of Disney references. The worst of the batch is "A Knight in Camelot" with Whoopie. I remember watching it on TV a few years ago and liking it alot, but I found it hard to hold my attention now.

DMC seems to have taken at least some advice. They have included inserts in this batch. They were completely absent from wave 2 and hard to come by in wave 1 (they came with my copy of "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken" and "Benji the Hunted," but not "Mail to the Cheif," which I bought a month later).

On the negative side, the inserts only contain the cover art on one side and an add for the DMC exclusives on the other. Not chapter list is offered... BECAUSE THE DIDN'T CHAPTER SELECT THEM! Again! Wave 1 was chapter selected, but 2 and 3 aren't. Therefore, if you stop the movie, you have to fast farward through it. It's super annoying. How much extra time does it take to do it anyways? That's just laziness.

So as a whole, DMC selected some good movies for Wave 3, but they deffinatley need to at least add chapter selections.

No chapter selections and pan-and-scan on all them? My goodness, it's like VHS all over again, but at DVD prices. Let's hope the R1 retail versions fare better.

Indeed. Fortunately, A Knight in Camelot was a made-for-TV movie to begin with, so it's not going to suffer from pan & scan (I'm pretty sure it was 1.33:1). I doubt that any better treatment will be afforded it when the retail version comes along, whenever that is. It'll probably be the same disc with a wide release, as I don't see any bonus features being likely, and I somehow doubt they'll even put in the effort to go back in and put in chapter stops. Still, I've been jealous of R2 having this forever, so I can't wait to finally get it.

Rocketman is one I'd like to get too, but only if it gets better treatment down the road. Never seen Shipwrecked, but it sounds interesting.

Yeah, the TV Movies are safe, on account of the aspect ratio and since I don't think there'd be any extras, but the lack of chapter stops is just kind of disappointing (if not a huge deal). I have two late-'90s WWoD movies that were released to VHS but have yet to show up on DVD that I'm hoping will receive general release instead of the DMC-exclusive route. They haven't been released to any region and since the DMC Exclusives have generally been taken from International releases, they might not turn up there anytime soon.

Any chance that they might start releasing DCOMs on DMC Exclusives? That would be AWESOME!!
We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!

I ordered the the New Disney Exclusives on Sept. 27th and they still haven't even shipped yet!! Everytime I make an order it takes longer and longer for them to ship them out.

They always say they haven't shipped because something is out of stock. I paid almost $50 for S/H on this last order, you would think I could get them in under a month!

I've got another idea for DMC... if something is OUT OF STOCK then mark it on your website or take it off until you do have it.

 60/70s??? Hah...

Shipwrecked was originally released in US theaters in 1991.

It's one of the reasons why I want to sign up for DMC. Although, it only being Full-Screen pretty much sucks since the R2 release is offered in WIDESCREEN.

Wow! 1991? Disney really didn't take care of this film. The transfer is so poor that it looks like an untreated Disney film from the 60's. But what more can you expect? Anyways, I really liked "Shipwrecked" and reccomend it to fans of "Treasure Island" because they are a lot alike, but still different.
