Here's my list:
Best:
Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith
Batman Begins
War of the Worlds
Hitch
Crash
Wedding Crashers
Cinderella Man
Mad Hot Ballroom
Sin City
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Worst:
Sky High
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
Wedding Date
The Island
Bad News Bears
Stealth
Flightplan
Red Eye
Dukes of Hazzard
The Longest Yard
The last two on my worst list are there because they are very poor remakes of an original television show (Hazzard) and a classic movie (Yard). Both, in my opinion, are wastes of time, money, and talent. I shudder to think what Jim Carrey will do to "Fun With Dick and Jane", another remake that should have been left alone.

Hmm, unfortunate to see that you didn't at least enjoy two smart genre films - even when you have odious movies like Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in the mix and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (a film I think I really like, but am wondering if its awesome production values are overshadowing the fact that this is a remake of a movie that really didn't need to be made).dvdjunkie wrote:

Well Bad News Bears is also a remake. But I guess for some reason, it's an exception instead of Charlie.Prince Eric wrote:Hmm, unfortunate to see that you didn't at least enjoy two smart genre films - even when you have in the mix and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (a film I think I really like, but am wondering if its awesome production values are overshadowing the fact that this is a remake of a movie that really didn't need to be made).dvdjunkie wrote:

Timon/Pumba fan! Yeah! Congratulations, even though it was no suprise there!

Bad News Bears needed to be updated and it served the purpose of combating today's constant and ambiguous PC movement.

Bad News Bears with Billy Bob Thornton was disgusting. It lost the whole idea of what the movie was about with its characterization of all the kids and of course the Thornton role. I refused to go see this movie, and refuse to buy it when it comes out on DVD.
I don't think of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" as a remake of the original. I think it is Tim Burton's take on the book, and he stuck more closely to the book than the original did. I like both versions, and will be proud to have both in my collection.

Guys! Don't you see that this was the perfect time to remake this film? With organizations like NAMBLA and so many priests getting in trouble, there is probably more of an audience for a film staring young boys now than ever.memnv wrote:I liked both versionsRobin Hood wrote: I don't think so, what's the matter with the original?

I update mine on a regular basis. This is the most up-to-date list. I'll soon be seeing Narnia/KK/Harry Potter, and I'll probably rent Mr. & Mrs. Smith soon so my list will be changing.DisneyFan 2000 wrote: 1. Batman Begins - As Mary Poppins says, practically perfect in every way. The Dark Knight lives! 10/10
2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Genius is a word that would describe this movie in short.Jonny Depp is great as usual, Tim Burton delivers a stylized and funny film! And the Ompa songs steal the show! One of the best movies of the year! 9.5/10
3. War of the Worlds - Never have I been so scared while watching a movie. Spielberg really defines fear in a new way. 9.5/10
4. Star Wars Episode III - I love the new trilogy, despite some horrible dialouge and acting. Story was very engaging and tragic. 9/10
5. Closer - This movie is beautiful. Acting is great, and the story is a fresh change from the usual romance stories. Just barely ranks under Revenge of the Sith. 8.5/10
6. Tim Burton's "The Corpse Bride" - Fun fun and more fun! I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Songs and score were terrific, and the atmosphere achieved was amazing! I found the story to stretch a bit thin near the middle but it quickly picked up speed from there! Terrific characters, and a great cast of voices. Jonny Depp is great! Overall 8/10! Great fun, but I'm not sure how it'll hold with repeat viewings...
7. Million Dollar Baby - Although the theme of Rocky is recycled here, this movie does it the best. Negative was it was too slow at parts. 8/10
8. Sin City - This one sure is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand photography is beautiful. Acting, dialogue, stunts, atmosphere. All amazing. I was blown away at times. But then comes the storyline. I could not see what the hell was so original about it! Nothing about the story was unique. In fact, the first and second stories were also entirely unbelievable. Who goes out on a killing fest for a girl he hardly knows / a girl he doesn't even love. The third story was great though. Overall, 8/10 for pure originality.
9. Phantom of the Opera - I love musicals, and this is no exception. Some plot points are confusing, but overall this movie delivers great enterainment, and a great love story. 7.5/10
10. Crash - Well, I am disappointed. There were too many stories going on at once, leading me to not care about any of them. Strong points are this director actually got Sandra to act good for a change (same goes for Brandon)! Overall, only so-so.... I give it credit for effort, good acting and nice dialouge. 7/10
11. Robots - While an enjoyable flick, and far beyond the likes of stupid toilet jokes, it's really nothing special. Aside from a few chuckles, I found myself quite bored seeing the same routines over and over again. Overall, a harmless viewing, but nothing to write home about. 7/10
12. The Island - Not bad, but nothing good either. I went out of the movie feeling a sence of deja vu. Been there, done that, only with better acting. I had a fun 2 hours, but it ends with that. 6/10
13. The 40-Year-Old Virgin - What's all the hype about? Just another lame comedy... 'Nuff said. 5/10
14. Fantastic 4 - Ranks right up there with Electra and Catwoman...4/10
Movies I am anxious to see. The lower the ranking, the less it's likely for me to catch it in theatres:
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - *****
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - ****1/2
Mr. And Mrs. Smith - ****
King Kong - ***1/2 (amusing really, since the trailer looked dumb to me).
The Legend of Zoro - ***1/2
The New World - ***1/2
Howl's Moving Castle - *
Last one will most likely be a DVD viewing for me. =)
