Cinderella PE - no THX certification?

Post by my chicken is infected »

I just noticed that nowhere on my box is there a THX logo like there has been on all past Platinums and even many non-Platinums have had a THX certification logo. Anyone have any idea why it hasn't recieved a THX certification? :?

THX is a sound system made by George Lucas. George Lucas as you may know was one of the best producers ever where he made successful films including the "Star Wars" saga and the "Indiana Jones" series.

Speaking of THX, there was a parody used in the opening credits of the movie "Reprossessed" (not made by Disney). It was BFD, a weird version of the THX logo. :o

THX certification is a joke. Its Lucas holding people out for ransom. That little sticker really does not mean anything. I am sure the sound is perfectly fine.

Do you mean "Reposessed", the Exorcist parody with Linda Blair? I remember the THX parody, the big sound effect was turned into a kind of a fart sound.

If you have a good 5.1 Sound system and an amplifier that puts out a lot of wattage, then you can hear the difference of not having THX certification. I didn't notice that there wasn't one on this disc, but you are right. I know that the Home Theater MIxed 5.1 sound is pretty awesome.

Also there was an even better satire of the THX logo on the DVD of "Hardware Wars". It is pretty funny considering.

Yep! I've seen the beginning of the movie, the THX parody sounded a lot weird.

When the logo plays before the movie, doesn't it say it's been THX optimized for picture AND sound both?

Anywho, it looks and sounds wonderful, so it doesn't matter much to me, but I just noticed that this is the first Platinum to not have a THX certified transfer.

musicradio77, I meant to say A movie, not THE movie. There is no THX anything before Cinderella, you're right.

It is rather odd that this Platinum Edition release is not THX Certified. Has Disney decided to end their relationship with THX?

Perhaps Luke can look into this, and find out why this release is not THX Certified, and if this is simply an oversight, or something more?

You don't need THX authenticity to have a good sounding film. ;) ;) Maybe the track couldn't be mixed properly to meet those specifications Lucas puts forth.

I agree with you Roger Rabbit, the Lucasfilm THX certification has some pretty rigid standards for a film to meet for certification and maybe Disney decided that they could do it with their Home Theater Mix of the 5.1 sound. Since the movie was not in stereo to begin with, it is all a synthesized track anyhow, so what the heck. Just to hear the clarity and see the sharpness of the picture is worth the price alone to me. The average person can't hear the difference any way. I know I can't.

If you notice, Disney did there own version of a Theatre Mix. It just sounds like Disney is trying to be independent again, like in the good old days when Disney was where other companies looked up too, not the other way around.
