I saw the discs in person today at work and actually found the art to be kinda boring and ugly. I liked it when I saw the pictures on the site but for whatever reason I think the silver background is just ugly. I would have preferred it if it was white, even though that is sort of the same.
Anyhoo, I won't spend that much time looking at the discs anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
I pre-ordered the gift set from Amazon with free shipping so I won't be getting it until mid next week. It's going to suck seeing it on the shelves at work and having people buy and rent it from me and having to wait to get mine. But, oh well, it should definitely be worth the wait.

IMO the artwork on the cover and slipcover are just wonderul. I don't know what you were expecting. My biggest disappointment with the "Cinderalla PE" was the preview of the not-needed Cinderella III. My question is why? "Cinderella II" tanked big time, what makes them think that a third installment will do any better. These ruined sequels that come direct-to-dvd are really terrible and someone should put a stop to them. If they aren't good enough for the theater why should I buy them on DVD?
Just my thoughts and feelings.
I really like the Cinderella Gift Set, it has a lot of really nice goodies included. Something everyone should consider getting for their collection. Best Buy also included a very nice lithograph from the movie with the purchase to all Reward Zone members.

First of all, "Cinderella II" did not tank big time. It is an awful sequel to such a classic movie, but that is because it's just some episodes of a non-aired Cinderella show stuck together... Why they think this one will do better? Well, because now they have the DisneyToon Studios working on it...dvdjunkie wrote:My biggest disappointment with the "Cinderalla PE" was the preview of the not-needed Cinderella III. I, people of UltimateDisney, currently have in my hands, the Cinderella: Platinum Edition.
I swear, I am gushing. My Mom just came home from Circuit City. She got it for $14.99, with that silly Disney Princess Line Sampler, which I tossed aside, for sometime later.
I think the (slip
)cover art is beautiful, if, off-model. The disc art surprised me, however. I was expecting a white backdrop, like the picture, but it is just the clear disc with the pictures and logos of Cinderella (Disc 1) and Jaq, Gus, and Suzy (or is it Perla?) (Disc 2). I don't mind, but, it could have been better.
I watched all on the Sneak Peaks, and watched the Circle of Stars video.
On the Sneaks; I was really surprised at how intrigued I was by the Cinderella III preview. It is based on this whole "What If?" premise. I was so intrigued, in fact, that I almost, I repeat, almost forgot about the horrible dubbing
! Of course, The Little Mermaid: Platinum Edition commercial psyched me out much, and made my anticipation reel.
Over the long weekend, I'll try to post a full review of the movie and all features, just like good ol' Luke.

What's the difference between the Special Edition soundtrack and the regular one?
I got the Cinderella PE today. Fortunately, no glitches, but I have ordered a new slipcover because, somehow, the blue ink has bled all over the slipcover, so I'm seeing blue go into text, graphics, etc. And it doesn't really "hug" the DVD case like my other slipcovers do, so the case tends to simply fall out. But enough of the slipcover talk.
I haven't watched the ESPN Cinderella Stories featurette or music videos. Don't fricking CARE about them. Cinderella Stories has nothing to do with the movie, and it has no place on this DVD in place of, oh, say an audio commentary?
The film restoration is, as always, top notch. No grain whatsoever, and I can almost touch the paper used to make the backgrounds. I love being able to see those textures.
Disc 2 has excellent bonus features as well. The making-of docu isn't as long as AS detailed as Bambi or Aladdin's, but it's very satisfying. The gallery of trailers is a welcome addition, and maybe Disney has learned its lesson after leaving them off the Lion King PE. (If only they'd included more Bambi trailers though.
) I also enjoyed all the demos and radio programs.
All in all, I think it's a worthy DVD release for this wonderful movie. And the movie is as beautiful and enchanting as ever.

Well I have to say this is right down there with The Lion King Platinum. Suprised? I was!! I was thinking this would be right up there with Bambi and Snow White..guess I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, the restoration is STUNNING!! I love it. Can't look better. However, the bonus features are TERRIBLE!!! Who cares about Disney Channel Circle or Stars? ESPN crap (Chances are a little 3 year old girl or someone who purchases this DVD is not all that big of a fan of football and wrestling! Also are the games are for little girls dressing up, etc. No audio commentary! Disney even slacked of with the presentation of the DVD! Most other Platinum Edition have some sort of scenery in the inner color we just got a dark blue. Not even the royal castle!! I was shocked when I saw that for the disk art Disney took the cheap way out by just sticking a character per disk and then leaving the rest the silver color!! VERY DISSAPOINTING BY DISNEY
Its too bad Disney has just ruined a could have been very good Platinum Edition DVD..

Cinderella, Cinderella...
Bought it, watched it, now to review it:
As has been said, the color/sound restoration is top-notch...but how in the world did they restore the picture? It looks brand new, not restored. Did they somehow redraw the original film? It looks strange to me. Somehow the subtleties of the original seem washed away. It doesn't look like the same movie at all. It looks like a 2005 Toon Disney extravaganza.

I just finished watching it, and the transfer does make it look like it was made today. Colors just popped out of my screen, detail was impressive, and what was considered the "noisiest movie" sounds brand new. I've only watched this once in my lifetime, and as many I consider this a girl's movie. I felt weird watching it, but I appreciated the artwork. Although it looked simple in certain scenes, they were gorgeous in others. The song "This is Love" is probably the one that I liked the most, while the mouse song cracked me up. Can't say anything about bonus features since I don't bother watching them. One thing I'd like to point out is that this DVD wasn't THX Certified, don't know why.

Unlike Luke, I have very fond memories of watching Cinderella over and over again when I was a little girl (it was my second VHS back in the 80s after Bambi), so I have a hard time pointing out any flaws in the movie itself. However, I was also very disappointed with the bonus features. Not only is the ESPN junk a complete waste of disc space (I doubt there are many people who would disagree with that statement), it certainly doesn't deserve a spot on the first disc. My only guess is that it's there so that the male viewer will have something to enjoy after sitting though that horrible "chick flick" his girlfriend made him watch. And, quite honestly, what girl wants a guy like that?
It's true, there are some very good bonus features on the second disc, but so few of them are entirely Cinderella-related. The Mary Blair featurette would have been just as well-placed on Peter Pan, Alice and Wonderland, or even Song of the South. My main wish is that there had been more of the live-action footage. If the entire movie had been filmed using real actors, you would think that more would have survived other than just one short scene. I asked Don Hahn something to that effect during the interview, but never got a clear response as I both didn't word my question very well, and I don't think he really knew the answer.
Oh, and I still think the colors look unnaturally bright. I mean, we all know that Cinderella's hair isn't as blonde as it is normally depicted, but it looks so orange in some scenes. But I guess we'll never know how exactly how the film looked when it first premiered. The restoration job is definitely commendable, in any case.

The film itself looks great and I'm very pleased with the Disney Home Theater sound mix for once, but I agree that the ESPN sports stuff does not belong here. They could have used that room for things more relevant to the film to say the least.
The bonus features on the second disc that actually there are great, but I feel as "Platinum" title this set is lacking compared to other films. In the Galleries where on earth is the merchandise, story books, record album art, etc.?? The other thing that would have been wonderful to include is all the Castle art in Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom in and around the Cinderella Castle. Even the Sleeping Beauty DVD had a section of the art at the Parks for it's film. I feel very let down on those points.

My Cinderella Gift Set was shipped a few days ago from Amazon, but I am kinda getting a bit nervous about the disc now. I remember when I first saw the press release I thought "wahoo!" looking at all the listings of bonuses, but after all the negativity surrounding them, I am really worried. I couldn't care less about something as small as disc art, but people are even slamming the non-fluffy bonus features...is this disc really that bad?
