How do you review the movies before they're released?

Post by Disney Duster »

First of all, let me say that I LOVE Ultimate Disney's reviews! They are so good, and often even humorous to read! My comments for the latest ones are that I really thought the Disney Princesses Sing-Along-Songs: Volume 2 review was so funny, and I laughed out loud at some of the words on some of the screen captures! My favorite is the "So This Is Love" one with Cinderella and the Prince dancing. It says "Mmmm". rotfl Then, I'd like to say that I really thought it was nice that in the Toy Story review Luke listed what features were not ported over from the Ultimate Toy Box, and I really liked how he let us know that the Cinderella trailer on the DVD is the same old one.

I have a question (please answer this): How is Ultimate Disney getting and reviewing some of these movies before they come out?

Thanks to all who have posted nice words about my <i>Toy Story</i> review! Always nice to see a Mermaid Kelly post, as well.

Disney Duster, Thanks for the high praise. It's great to hear some specific feedback and I'm glad to know the captions are enjoyed. (Sometimes, I wonder if people even know about them.)

Silly and serious answers to your question alike can be found in this thread started by Wonderlicious: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... php?t=8213

The short of it is that press outlets are able to screen media in advance of the release date to allow the time needed to ready a review for publication. Our primary focus here is DVDs, but the same thing applies to critiques of books, plays, CDs, movies, or DVDs in your local newspaper.

Not to get too off-topic, but I can't get the captions to show up when I roll my mouse over the pics. Never have been able to. I always go to properties and read them there. Is there a setting I need to change? About time I ask; I've been meaning to.

What browser and operating system are you using? They're designed to work with IE (probably not Macs), but I know there's something you can install to get them to work on Firefox too.

I'm using Mozilla on Microsoft XP as my primary comp right now (hopefully changing soon!).

I just fired up Internet Explorer on my PC (which I rarely use, because I love tabbed browsing), and it does indeed work there. Funny, I thought I tried it there and it didn't work either... maybe that was IE on Mac. You're right, it doesn't work on my Mac.

I'll need to find the plug-in or whatever it is that lets it work on Mozilla. Thanks.

Hidden Captions

Post by Disney Duster »

And thank you Luke, for answering my question!

Something funny, though, is that when I talked about your screen captures and captions, I meant that the screen captures themselves were particuliarly funny. Because the Sing-Along-Song format has the words on the screen, I thought those were the captions! And although "Mmmm" is funny by itself, when I put my mouse over it and saw that "Cinderella thinks Prince Charming is tasty", I laughed even more! Now that I know there are hidden captions found by putting the mouse over the screen captures, I will be sure to do that now in the future reviews because they are hilarious! The reason I never knew of this until now is that at home I have an Apple Computer. I guess the text activated my mouse scrolling only works for PCs (I'm on someone elses computer right now, and it's a PC).

By the way, are all the reviews written without the author's name your done by you, Luke? Or do some author's just choose not to put there name in the review(or forget to put there name in)?

Re: How can you tell who the author of the Review is?

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Disney Duster wrote:One other question I have: Since the DVDs are reviewed by different people sometimes, how can you tell who did the review you're reading?
I can answer this one.

The first line of each review will say "By ____ ______." If there isn't any by-line, then it's by Luke, since he <i>is</i> Ultimate Disney. ;)

For example, this one says By Renata Joy: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/princess-stories3.html

This one is written by Luke: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/princess-sing-along2.html

SORRY! I RESEARCHED THE ANSWER TOO LATE!

Post by Disney Duster »

I researched my own question too late! And then I edited my post! I'm sorry I did it all too late! But THANK YOU very much AwallaceUNC for answering my question! From now on I'll try to do more research about the questions I have and posts I make before I actually make a post!

Got around to reading the Hitchhiker review, and wow. The DVD doesn't seem bad at all! I probably get this once Tuesday rolls in, especially after reading the review. :)
Good one!

I don't think I ever said this about a review, but that was a CUTE REVIEW! :D I was holding off on Lumpy (maybe until next month or so..) mainly because I didn't really hear much about the DVD. :( But the review and pictures and words (haha, maybe the coupons Disney is giving!) really influenced me (as of tonight) to purchase the DVD this Friday!
