Hey, don't get me wrong -

I'm looking forward to getting 'The Lion King' but I'm am just as excited to get the double disc set of 'A Christmas Story'!

Look at these features:

--Feature-length audio commentary by Peter Billingsley, Melinda Dillon and director/co-writer Bob Clark

I can't wait for the Christmas Story too! It is such a classic and it always puts me in the mood for Christmas. :D

I like A Christmas Story enough to watch it for some time on Christmas Day when it's running back-to-back ad nauseaum. If I were to buy the DVD, that would be no fun. Then again, widescreen and with special features...sounds good. Two more widescreen Vacation re-releases are coming Tuesday as well - Vegas and Christmas.

A Christmas Story is one of my favorite Christmas movies. However, I will be very stupid if I don't pick up the Lion King in stores on Tuesday. my bank account is low at the moment since the move.

I'm w/ you, GSC. Love this movie (a childhood favorite and it's set in a small Indiana town...you folks have no idea just how dead-on that setting is) and held off on the current release in hopes of the SE someday.

And Luke, you know you're getting this one. I, too, watch it all the time durin the "24 Hours of Christmas Marathon" but having access to the widescreen version of the film, extras and Billingsley's commentary is way too much to pass up.

The dvd I'm most looking forward to on Oct. 7 is of course the Lion King but a strong second goes to the Ultimate Vacation Box Set. From the jungle to Wally World.
15 gallon 7 pint blood donor as of 1-4-11. Done donating. Apparently having Cancer makes you kind of ineligible to donate.

I guess you could call me indifferent or maybe even a Grinch (being that I used to watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2 repeatedly as a kid and didn't watch "A Christmas Story" till I was 15), but I always found "A Christmas Story" to be a bit hypocritical, especially in today's times.

yeah, but a christmas story was made in 1982!(i think that's right.. that was the first year that came to mind) before some of you posters were born. times are much different now than they were then.

i love a christmas story.. that's a movie i don't mind watching on the Fourth of July!! it is sooo funny. i do wish they didn't show it back to back to back etc. etc. etc, i remember the days when they used to do that to it's a wonderful life, and everyone got sick of it, and now they only show it's a wonderful life maybe once or twice during the christmas season. overplay can ruin a wonderful movie...

I see your points, but (...and I do hate that word sometimes) ...
IMO it's not fair to hold a film responsible for reflecting values held in the past vs values held today. It was a much different world in the 40s in so many ways, including what people thought about guns.

My father-in-law told me it was very common for boys his age to have toy guns and then real BB and hunting guns from early ages on through teenage years. That was just the way it was back then...can't really judge a film depicting a part of american culture for that can you?

Anyway, I'm not trying to change your mind because you obviously have very strong feelings about the topic. I guess my point is you can look at a lot of films negatively today that do the very same thing with very different topics.

To be fare I've not actually seen A Dhristmas story all the way through but while I was working at Sincoast last holiday season, it was playing a couple times and it just never sparked an interest with me, though now that I've been hired again, to work this holiday season, I can always give it another chance....Image

I, too thought the opening of The Italian Job was boring. The rest of the movie was great though. ;)
