So, are you getting the gift set?
I have been debating over this so much today and I'm still not really sure what I'm going to do. I heard that Circuit City is going to have the DVD for $14.99 and then Best Buy will have the gift set for $39.99. This means that I'd be paying almost three times as much for the gift set, which shocked me. I want the box and I want the sketches but I couldn't care less about the book. So I keep asking myself if I'd pay $25 extra just for a box and some character sketches and my answer is "heck no!" yet whenever I look at a picture of the gift set I feel like I HAVE to buy it. So yeah I'm still not sure what I'm doing, but how about you guys/gals?
EDIT: Okay so umm I went to edit my post and the poll got deleted so I added it again and it doubled (or maybe even tripled now) all the options. I'm confused....

oh haven't gave much thought. I knew I wanted the box no matter what the price, so that's what i'm getting! I've seen the box and I have touched it and looked at it millions of times! as is so worth it! If you're going to spend $39.99 you might get it from Disney catalog and get free shipping and get the lithos. the # is 800-237-5751 Source Code= 4wmar
You don't need to use a CC you can go to your local DS and get a give card. it's come out to $43 something
you have till Monday to get the lithos!
the product code for the box in the catalog is: 29987

That would be a nice plan except for two problems. 1) I don't have a DS near me, at least not that I know of. And 2) I don't have the money for it right now and won't until mid-next week.
And umm about the poll, could you maybe remove the duplicate options Luke? I really have no idea why it did that.

same thing with me.. i haven't ordered it yet, but just the other day in one of the other threads i admitted that i decided (again) to just go ahead and get the gift set, because i would be angry at myself for not getting it. can't be mad at myself.. must get box set..Celtic wrote:I was so undecided about what to do. Then yesterday I thought 'to hell with it' and order the gift set. I can't afford it but hey that's never stopped me before!!!
I had to delete the whole poll, and I'm not sure I got your choices right, but it's back, I think. Poll-editing usually doesn't work here.
Anyway, I've decided I'm definitely getting The Gift Set (I think) and I'm going to have to buy a copy of the PE from Toys R Us if they have Sleeping Beauty there. (Sheepishly admits I haven't got this yet.) And if the AM/FM radio is any good, I might get still another copy of the PE from Circuit City, for that.
I figure I can have giveaways for the extra copies here - and that money is well-spent, plus Sleeping Beauty is very much on my to-buy list and $25 for 2 new 2-disc sets is nice, even with NYC tax prices. Anyone know if this Circuit City radio is any good. My old AM/FM walkman broke, so this could be a temporary replacement. (What I really want is a discman/radio that also plays CDs with MP3s on them.)
Decisions, Decisions.
If only one place was wise enough to over more than a 20% discount on the Gift Set, or even advertise it in the circular!

It's like the "Seinfeld" episode with The Contest...where "that" is never clarified. But everyone knows what's being discussed.IggieKuzco wrote:Has anyone else noticed besides me that no one mentioned once what gift set is being talked about here??

Well, I'm in an interesting position with the gift set right now.
I want it like hell and it must be mine. But the only way I'd be able to afford that kind of money right now is if I got Mom to advance me something like $30 in allowance. She would, but I'd have to pay her back by forfiting allowance for the next three weeks, and thus also forfitting The Matrix Reloaded, the Brother Bear soundtrack, Hulk, Whale Rider, Finding Nemo, and several other items due to lack of funds because I paid back the loan.
That's not something I want to do.
So - for right now, I'm going to have to stick with the regular 2-disc Platinum. However, once all of the 4th quarter madness is over (my last must-have purchase is the week of Dec 16), then I'll use holiday money to go back and double dip. THEN the gift set will be mine. I'll take the copy of the DVD from within the gift set out of there and replace it with my original copy (it deserves to be the one used until a re-release.)
So, I voted yes for the poll. Not right now I won't, but eventually, yeah. I might be paying a whole lot more to have it, but, hey, it's TLK.
Of course, that leaves me with duplicates. I'm currently debating what to do with the second copy.
1) I could save it just in case something happens to the other copy. Knowing Disney, they won't replace it -- they wouldn't replace my Aladdin VHS because it's OOP.
2) Give it to a friend.
3) Donate to the library.
4) Hang on to it, sealed, and ebay it in a few years once it becomes OOP and hard to find. It might not bring up Limited Issue or Treaasures-type numbers, but it would probably at least make back the $15-$20 I will have spent this Tuesday on the first copy, thus making it as if I just spent the money on the gift set.
Any ideas?

While I have been deadset on getting the giftset for a while now, all of a sudden, I just decided against it.
The news of the book being half storybook and half retread of stuff on the DVD really dissapointed me. I don't think the hefty price tag is worth it anymore, especially with the DVD by itself being only $15.99 at Best Buy.
I could put the extra money I would've spent on the box towards more worthy sets (Treasure of Sierra Madre, Walt Disney Treasures, etc.)

Wow, I'm actually surprised by how few of you are going to get this considering what a bunch of Disney freaks you all are.

Well right now my dilemma is at a point where I realize that I don't really need the extra money that the gift set would cost so buying it would be no problem but it's still alot of money to pay just for some sketches and a box, I'd probably feel like I wasted all that money. Oh well, I've still got a few days to decide....
EDIT: Alright I may have officially decided against the gift set. I just realized that Indy's coming out in just a couple weeks. I'm getting $40 around the time that it comes out and I'm expecting it to be around $45/50. This means that I'll need to save about ten dollars of what I have now in order to afford it. I have $57 now so $57-$10=$47. So if I bought the gift set I would have basically no extra money for a few weeks which wouldn't be good. Sooo I think I'm just gonna pick up the DVD at Circuit City for $14.99.
Whew, feels good to get that off my chest.
