Petition To Have Disney Release "Song Of The South"
This should be released.
It's a CRIME to keep such a great title under wraps, forcing afficianados to rely on crappy bootlegs.
It's MONEY IN THE BANK, Disney!
So who is with me here?

I don't think that Disney will release this film in my lifetime (I'm in my 30s). If they do, then it will be so horribly edited/butchered so as to make it unwatchable.Don Quackleone wrote:This should be released.

Tell me about your "crappy bootleg," please... Does it have interactive menus, extras, and an Easter Egg? If it does, then you probably have the best boot out there

I don't think a petition is going to do it. Disney knows about the interest. Personally, I think the only way this will see the light of day is via a Walt Disney Treasures release. Thus, it's Leonard Maltin we have to rely on in regards to lobbying Disney to pull this off. Continued positive sales of the Treasures line can't hurt either

I think that you are right here. The Treasures series is the only way they are going to try to release this film, and that's fine. Maltin is bugging them for it, we know that, and I think he will be successful. When he does get it released on DVD, we need to send him a huge thank you! (We should now, for all the great Treasures he's brought us!)Tannerman wrote:I don't think a petition is going to do it. Disney knows about the interest. Leonard Maltin has a website, but there is no way to contact him threw it. Unless I missed it?
Song of the South is about a young kid who moves out to his grandmother's plantation, due to some problems involving his parents. The situation is really never made fully clear. Anyway, while he is there he befirends kindly ol Uncle Remus, who helps the boy deal with life by telling him his stories about Brer Fox, Brer Rabbit, and Brer Bear. These stories are depicted with animation, while the rest of the film is live action. The movie spawned an award winning song "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" and a ride, Splash Moutain.

Haven't seen it yet,but have an idea of what the DVD will be like:
Disc 1
1.33:1 OAR
Dolby Digital,DTS,and mono audio tracks
Introduction by Leonard Maltin
Audio commentary
Short film before(like the Vault Disney movies)
Disc 2
Making-of featurette
A Premiere featurette
A featurette explaining the movie going to "The Vault"
Publicity Gallery
"Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah" sing along
Games
DVD-ROM
And the film would be uncensored.
Prediction of release date:Nov. 2006(twenty years after 1986 re-issue)
May 2006 theatrical re-issue
Disc 1

I think it is more likely it will not be released at all.The Lizard King wrote: I don't think that Disney will release this film in my lifetime (I'm in my 30s). If they do, then it will be so horribly edited/butchered so as to make it unwatchable.
As far as my understanding goes, it is not individual scenes that are objected to, be the 'theme' as a whole.
I suppose they could release the opening and closing credits...
It is one of those things where the longer the wait for the DVD, the more 'contraversial' the movie becomes. People who have not even seen it will start to rally for its non-release.
Whether it is offensive, has stereotypes or not will eventually become irrelevant. It will get to a point where it is just 'Song of the South', and for that reason alone it should be banned.

Ummm, that would be 1.37:1 OAR.BasilOfBakerStreet427 wrote:Haven't seen it yet,but have an idea of what the DVD will be like:

The DD 5.1 is possible, since Disney was able to take Snow White's mono soundtrack and create a DD 5.1 soundtrack. However, they didn't do Snow White in DTS, so I doubt it if DTS would sound any different than DD 5.1 since the masters are mono for SOTS.BasilOfBakerStreet427 wrote:Dolby Digital,DTS,and mono audio tracks
By whom? Everyone associated with this film is dead except for Ruth Warrick. I suppose that Leonard Maltin can do the commentary. After all, Roger Ebert did the commentary for the latest Casablanca release.BasilOfBakerStreet427 wrote:Introduction by Leonard Maltin

I hope that you are right, but somehow, I really doubt that it will ever be released legitimately.BasilOfBakerStreet427 wrote:Prediction of release date:Nov. 2006(twenty years after 1986 re-issue)

I personally think the only hope or prayer SOTS has of getting released is as a Disney Treasure. But right now there are just so many issues involved in it right now that a release anytime in the NEAR future is slim and nil. That COULD change at any time, but I'm not optomistic, to be sure.

No, but they could use it as footage for an easter egg on the DVD...catNC wrote:not a pretty thoughtThe Lizard King wrote: And maybe monkeys will fly out of my butt.![]()

never know Disney might have a audio commentary recorded with some of the cast before they died hehe never know what they have in their vaults also they could use radio spots and other interviews to piece a audio commentary just like sleeping beauty's
