Disney's Greatest Villains

Post by Deco King »

Many years ago in the days before DVD (!!), here in England, there was a VHS tape entitled Disney'Greatest Villains largely culled from a Disney TV Special of the same ( or similar ) name. This was in the days before Disney SOLD their VHS tapes and was rental only!! I wonder if there plans afoot to release this or a smilar cmpilation as now Disney's villains and villainous characters are a great selling point?

I believe the "special" show you are thinking of was originally an episode either "Disneyland" or "Walt Disney Presents" and was probably re-presented several times afterward on either "Wonderful World of Color" or "Wonderful World of Disney." So if they do release that to DVD, they should include a second volume, since there have been many outstanding villains added to the Disney canon since that show was first made!

I would get that DVD if they made it... I love the Disney Villains... they're definitely my favorite characters as a whole.

In my opinion, the greatest villains are:

Maleficient, Ursula, Jafar, the Queen and the Horned King! 8)

Maleficient and the Queen are pure evil, Jafar and Ursula can be both evil and comical, and the Horned King is the scariest of all disney villains!

They are both indeed hysterical, but I don't consider them much as far as villainy is concerned. The hard thing with having comical villains is that it's hard to also make them appear threatening. They don't do their job half as well as characters such as Frollo or Shan-Yu, who actually inspires hate in you. The Evil Queen and all those other witches and sorcerors are good when it comes to unmeaningful evils. They hurt one person's dreams or try to rule, whereas Shan-Yu and Frollo attempt to kill off entire races (including babies, children, mothers, etc.).

To this day, the only villainess that's from a "fairy tale-esque" story that makes me despise her is Lady Tremaine from Cinderella, only because she plays with Cinderella's emotions so well. Ursula is another one, because she breaks people's dreams and seeks to rule the entire sea to do the same to all of them most likely. And Scar is perhaps the most villainous creation Disney's ever come up with. Telling a child that it was their fault their parent died is, in my eyes, the most despicable thing someone could ever do.

So, those are the ones I consider the greatest: Shan-Yu, Frollo, Lady Tremaine, Ursula and Scar.

Urusla funny? She was very scary!

- the way she took Ariel's voice

- How she made her suffer using her voice to hypnotice Eric

- When she ate the "worm"

- When she's transformed back to herself and crawled over the ship...

- When she got huge....

hey, for what I look, Shan-Yu was an inteligent villian
I mean, he was concerned about the uncontrolled human growing and how it would affect China, so he just made lower the "living" numbers

I never got that much either. The closest to funny she ever came was that, "My poor little poopsies!" thing. In the scenes where she was supposedly making "jokes," they were all said in a morbid kind of way. Like when she was talking of adding Ariel to her little garden.

Yes, she's scary but she is also funny, for example when she's singing and dancing shaking her big fat butt!

well...If you thin Ursula was funny...
For me was like watching a Paquita la del Barrio cartoon, If you don´t know who is she, I suggest you to find some of her lyrics and translate it to engleish.

I suggest you the "Rata de dos patas" one

I consider Morgana a light version of Ursula!
Is quite the same Ursula was, but only the half of it!

I don't think I have ever seen 'Disney'Greatest Villains' but every Halloween on the Family Channel I watch 'Disney's Halloween Treat', a Halloween special from 1982 which focuses on some of Disney's classic villains, adds a couple of Halloween Disney shorts and 'A Night on Bald Mountain'.

I wouldn't mind spending money on it if it was on DVD even if it's outdated and nowadays they could make a greater special. I would get it for nostalgic reasons.

I think the best villain is "Jafar".......everyone seems hung up on "Beauty and the Beast" and "Mulan".......what about "Aladdin" and the evil Jafar?

I really thought Joanna was way more evil and scarier.

My order of favourite villians:
1. Ursula - You can't stop hating her! :P
2. Sleeping Beauty - Pure evil. The true mother of all evil. If only she had a better motive she'd be perfect.
3. Jafar - His cynical ways are always amusing yet frightening.
4. Frollo - Self-rigthious extremists have always scared me. This one's no different.
5. The Old Hag - Scary old woman.... *shudders*
"See, I'm not a monster. I'm just ahead of the curve." - The Joker

Yup McLeach.... he was a crazed murdering poacher that kidnapped a boy voiced very well by George C. Scott. Basically he was a villain that never had magical powers but this kind of guy could and does happen in real life.

Joanna to me was justa bratty lizard. :)
