What Disney DVD should I get now?
I was just asking you folks which DVD(s) I should get. I don't want Direct to Video or live action, just Disney animated classics. Pixar movies are fine. I'm welcoming SUGGESTIONS, not FLAMING!
Here is my current collection:
Aladdin (PE)
Alice in Wonderland (ME)
Bambi(PE)
Beauty and the Beast (PE)
Finding Nemo
The Incredibles
The Lion King (PE)
Pocahontas (10th aniv)
sleeping Beauty (2 disc)
Snow White (PE)
As you can see, I have all the platinums released so far, most of the two disc sets. I'm mainly concerned with buying the remaining two discs sets availabe (No DTV). Any suggestions?

Alan, I don't mean to sound rude, but isn't this the kind of decision you should make yourself? Asking people to tell you what to buy just seems kind of strange to me.
But I won't judge. I highly recommend Treasure Planet, but it's not a 2-discer and it doesn't have a slipcover. If it's a 2-disc slipcovered movie you're looking for, I'd recommend Mulan or Brother Bear.
But Brother Bear doesn't have a slipcover either, so ignore that.

You clearly missed my point. I was here asking for SUGGESTIONS for DVDs to buy. Please just leave this thread alone if you are not going to digress. What part of the Thumper rule do you not understand?Just Myself wrote:Dude, go to the DVD section, pick a DVD yourself, and quit trying to boost your post count by asking questions you can answer yourself.
Going back on topic: Mulan is nice, but I already have it on VHS.

Well, you might want to be a little more specific with what kind of movie you're looking for. Do you want an adventure movie, a musical, a comedy, a love story, what? Saying "I'm looking for a movie that has two discs" isn't nearly enough information.Alan wrote:You clearly missed my point. I was here asking for SUGGESTIONS for DVDs to buy.
It's always better to upgrade to DVD. You get the original aspect ratio, better picture/audio quality, and great bonus features that are focused (almost) entirely on how the movie was made.Alan wrote:Going back on topic: Mulan is nice, but I already have it on VHS.

My husband and I recently saw Treasure Planet and we both loved it. I would highly recommend this movie.
Also, Atlantis and Mulan are really good.

Trust me, Alan loves those little things. I can't see why, but I just thought I'd tell him because last time I checked, he makes some of his purchase decisions on whether or not a DVD has a slipcover.GhostHost wrote:because we only buy dvds for the slipcovers

Pirates Of The Caribbean. It's live action but an adventure. You'd really enjoy it.

Re: What Disney DVD should I get now?
Ask and ye shall receive.Alan wrote:I was just asking you folks which DVD(s) I should get. I don't want Direct to Video or live action, just Disney animated classics. Pixar movies are fine. I'm welcoming SUGGESTIONS, not FLAMING!
My suggestion: Rather than waste a thread and bandwidth, you check out this nifty little page. It lists all the Disney Animated Classics, and with the exception of Cinderella, they all contain a review, done by our own UD! You can read each and every review, and decide if you want to purchase one of the DVDs, either in a store, or buy supporting UD and doing it online by clicking the "BUY" link.
If you choose not to check out the link, and would rather solicit opinions from fellow UD'ers, here's my opinions:
About Animated Classics:
Since you only want two-disc sets, these are the following that are still in print:
Mulan
The Emperor's New Groove
Brother Bear
Tarzan's first two-disc set is out of print, but a newer one is being released October 18. The re-release SE of TENG looks to be the one-discer, so don't bother.
If you want any single discers, with Dumbo going out of print, I'd get that, along with the following, all still in print:
Make Mine Music
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
The Sword in the Stone
Robin Hood
The Rescuers
The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh
The Black Cauldron
The Great Mouse Detective
The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Lilo and Stitch
Treasure Planet
About Animated Films (not recognized as Animated Classics):
Studio Ghibli films (Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa, Porco Rosso, The Cat Returns, Pom Poko, My Neighbours the Yamadas, Princess Mononoke)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (albeit Touchstone)
A Goofy Movie
Dinosaur
Return to Neverland
Pooh's Heffalump Movie
About DTV:
Even though you said you didn't want any, here are a few I'd recommend if you ever wish to change your mind:
Aladdin II & III Collection
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas
Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas
Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In At the House of Mouse
Mickey's House of Villains
Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers
Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas
Lilo and Stitch 2: Stitch has a Glitch
Walt Disney's Timeless Tales, Vols. 1 and 2
About Live-Action:
You're really missing out on wonderful movies by choosing not to buy any. There's too many for me to list, but you should at least check out:
Treasure Island
Old Yeller
Johnny Tremain
Swiss Family Robinson
Mary Poppins
The Happiest Millionaire
The Boatniks
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The North Avenue Irregulars
The Watcher in the Woods
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The Rocketeer
Hocus Pocus
The Santa ClausE
Remember the Titans
The Princess Diaries
Tuck Everlasting
Pirates of the Caribbean
National Treasure
And I'm surprised you didn't state whether or not you'd wish to collect the Treasures sets. You could count the tins as a sort of "slipcover".
Of course, that's just my suggestion.

The "Thumper Rule" is a good one, but I can't help but thinking that you're working hard on getting your post count up...
Well, never mind - I'm probably making myself guilty of the same right now...
As for being constructive: I'd suggest the Fantasia Anthology and as many of the Walt Disney Treasures as possible. Those are the ones I'd keep if I had to get rid of most of my Disney DVDs.

No, Castle in the Sky is the best. Don't let anyone tell you different.Alan wrote:I bought castle in the sky. Is that better than Nausiccaa?Mr. Toad wrote:I am with Red - not going to find a better movie than Nausicaa unless you can find an out of print Fantasia.

Nausicaa is right up there with it though. I would recomend it. If you havn't gotten Spirited Away, Pom Poko, Porco Rosso, Kiki's Delivery Service, or Princess Mononoke I would recommend those as well.
As for Disney I would recomend Mulan SE, Brother Bear SE , or Atlantis SE (which is tremondously hard to find, and I don't own it yet).
