Thanks to Disney's marketing strategy, they've made the life of a Disney fan one where we are always waiting impatiently for the next Disney DVD release. After the Lion King madness passes, we'll all go nuts in anticipation for the Treasures release in December and then work ourselves into a nervous frenzy for the Alice in Wonderland and Pocahontas Special Editions early next year. *sigh*
Anyone received their Lion King Collector's Box Yet?
Anyone received their Lion King Collector's Box Yet?
Has anyone received their Lion King Collector's Box Yet? I was wondering if we could maybe have a review of the included book and sketches. And of course of the DVD itself.

Amen. And as excited about the Treasures as I am it's Pirates that will be getting most of my attention Disney DVD-wise after Nemo.indianajdp wrote: Not sure about you, but that Finding Nemo release in November will have my attention before the Treasures do

Got the collectors box yesterday.
The book is 160 pages but is pretty light on the text. All the pages have only a bar of text along one side - the majority of it is the artwork (which I suppose is fair enough given the nature of the film and the quality of the artwork provided) It's a quite heavy stock and has a good solid feel to it.
Watching some of the supplements on disk 2 last night, a lot of the text in the making of sections of the book is derived from the interviews on the disk and is repeated nearly verbatim.
1/2 the book is taken up by a storybook of the Lion King story that will be great for the kids.
The 9 pictures come in their own box within the box and consist of a postcard size sketch enclosed in a windowed "envelope". There is also a certificate of authenticity saying that these are sketches from the SE DVD of the Lion King (well, duh!) and giving some details of the paper stock used. This also mentions that this box is limited (but of course doesn't say to how many copies!).
I watched the SE last night with the enhanced Home theater mix switched on - a very nice soundtrack and it certainly is enveloping.

It's little dissapointing to hear that what little text there is in the book is a retread from the documentaries on the DVD. I would've liked something more like the excellent companion book MGM put out for West Side Story SE back in the spring.
Should be a nice book anyway, though. I love the artwork, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I look forward to displaying those character sketches on my wall.
