I've always been pretty fond of this image.

Image

It's always had a good balance of the good, evil, and supporting characters. Ursula looks menacing, and I thought that this is the best looking image of Ariel. You just seem to see what her personality is just by looking at that picture. The only thing I don't like is Sebastian, but he can easily be moved to the back cover.

I also think that this image has a pretty good chance of being the PE coverart, because it shows nearly all of the characters, even the comic relief ones, which seems to be what Disney likes to do with their coverarts. But sadly, they also seem to like using newly drawn material for their PE covers, so this might not make it. The fact that it was the coverart for the previous DVD makes it all the less likely. It's a shame, because it's a very good picture.

I also have no idea where the title of the DVD would go, since there are basically no empty spaces in that image.

I really like that cover too, however I don't think Disney will use it because, say doesn't that tower look strange?!?

Yep, Disney wouldn't use that cover, just because of the joke/misplant.

I was actually thinking of posting the same thread :P I think it would be nice to see a rendition of the original theatrical poster (below), the one that inspired the first video release but i doubt it since it has already been used for a video release. I think it would be nice to see what they could do with the "Part Of Your World Reprise" scene where Ariel is on the rock singing and the waves crash from behind her.

i think whatever they choose, the cover art for this PE will be outstanding. Disney couldnt afford to ahve anything less than perfect for this so highly anticipated release

It's kind of plain and doesn't include the other characters..but it's soo pretty.

Maybe it could at least be the cover artwork for the gift set??

The artwork that Ryan posted is perhaps the best cover/poster Disney has ever come up with. Therefore, while I normally don't like the idea, I would definitely embrace that being used as the PE cover. It's unlikely, though. Still, I think that the current Platinum design can work very well with TLM and will hopefully render a cover as stunning as this poster... maybe even similar.

Edit: I also really like the one brownie posted, it looks like perfect teaser poster material (is that what it was?). I don't think it would be fitting for a DVD, though, especially not when compared to the previous PEs.

But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I think all of TLM's posters and cover art have been beautiful, except the re-release's (which was like that lithograph that's been posted, but showing only the part with Ariel inside the bubble with a border and a very ugly-drawn Ursula draping over the title). I noticed, with that one, they were going along with some kind of theme for their movie covers. I don't know about any others (since I didn't really LOOK for it), but it, Snow White's (re-release I think), and HoND's all had the villain draping over the title at the top.

I would rather the movie have a totally new cover. I want a beautiful one that befits a classic. I would much rather the cover didn't have every character. They are all so colorful (Ariel green, Ursula purple, Triton gold, the eels dark blue, Flounder yellow, and Sebastion bright red) that I've always thought it throws off the splendor a cover could have by crowding them all together. It would be much better if it's another solo-Ariel poster. They always turn out so beautiful.

The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition Cover

Post by Disney Duster »

Even though it would be nice to have a completely new design for The Little Mermaid Platinum Edition cover, history shows us that it will probably be a revamped version of the old VHS cover art.

For the Beauty and the Beast Platinum Edition cover, Belle and the Beast look about the same as they did on the old VHS cover.

Look at Aladdin:
Image Image
Notice how in both covers Jasmine and Aladdin are on the carpet at the left, while Jafar and Iago are still in the bottom right and making the same poses!

Now, look at Cinderella:
Image Image
Notice how in both covers Cinderella and the Prince are dancing in the same position, and the castle is to their right in the background.

So, the old VHS cover for The Little Mermaid will probably be used for the DVD cover, just redrawn and moved around a bit.
