Best Platinum Edition Release

Post by jamminjake245 »

So far, what do you think the best Platinum Edition release has been? So far the released are:
Snow White
Beauty & the Beast
Lion King
Aladdin
Bambi

This does not mean the actual movie, but the resoration, bonus features, etc. I would have to go with Bambi because is looked stunning and the features were GREAT!
Wants Muppet Babies on DVD!!
Hopefully if Duckales and Rescue Rangers sell well we will get it!! Don't forget Gummi Bears!

Here is my priority:
Snow White - Great all around. No real faults... Restoration was top notch.
Aladdin - Awesome documentary, a great feature on Alan Menken, 2 commentaries. Need I say more?
Beauty and the Beast - Nice features, designed nicely (menus and all), crisp picture.
Bambi - Great restoration work, awesome commentary but other than that, nothing too exciting.
The Lion King - Mostly promotional. Commentary was good, but feaurettes were very disappointing.

Well, I'll say Bambi. This is mainly for the "Inside Walt's Meetings" feature which is absolutely amazing (as is the "Making Of"). Bambi shows that sometimes quality wins out over quantity. However, I do wish the extensive "Virtual Galleries" of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty would return.

I sort of feel the creators had less time to make the Bambi supplements with the new "2 per year" schedule, and as a result they got less meddling from the Disney DVD executives, but who knows?

The Lion King definitely had too many hands contributing to it's contents, and I would also hazard a guess most of them were from "Marketing" rather than "Creative"

I liked the Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast platinum releases the most.

And I also wish they would come out with more virtual galleries..I liked the one for Sleeping Beauty.

I rented Snow White at Blockbuster a while ago and it probably had the best DVD quality ever!

Aladdin comes in a worthy second with the 2nd Disc being packed with bonus features. After watching all the bonus features you know almost everything to know about the movie.

Bambi is was also very good. "The Making of Bambi: A Prince is Born" and "Inside Walt's Meetings" made this DVD great. In fact I'm the only one who thought this DVD was better than "The Incredibles".

Now while The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie, and it has the greatest DVD game of all time(Timon and Pumbaa Virtual Safari :D). It even has terrific restoration, however the bonus features alot of times seemed poor like those lame music-videos. Even the documentaries were somewhat lacking.

I haven't seem the Beauty and the Beast DVD yet so here is my order:

1. Snow White
2. Aladdin
3. Bambi
4. The Lion King

Snow White and Bambi.

I don't actually own the DVD for Snow White but rented it at the local library. I like the decade countdown. It mentiones how often Snow White was released in theatres and the first release on DVD. The overall features was really good to watch.

With Bambi, I enjoyed the "Inside Walt's Meetings". I also liked how they went piece by piece of how the movie was made.

I would say that the Snow White Platinum Edition has to be the BEST! It's not my favorite movie out of the bunch, but the extras, and presentation of that set, are unequaled, and really made me appreciate Snow White even more!

I'd mention something about each one:

Snow White: it does have tons of material and interesting stuff going on. But I guess that had to be obvious since it was the first Disney movie, the first Platinum, they could fill the DVD with tons of material regarding Disney's history because again, it was the first one.

Beauty and the Beast: haven't checked the extras that much (funny why not since it was my first PE  ). And on top of that I didn't like how the menus were divided.

The Lion King: Not only the menus are the worst ever but also the extras leave much to be desired.

Aladdin: LOVE IT. The almost 2 hour long docummentary is just extremely complete and goes back and forth with backstage info that keeps it interesting.

BAMBI: Haven't checked them much either... :(

Mine's a tie between Snow White and Beauty and the Beast's releases. Aladdin's close along with them. I might've liked Bambi's, but I didn't waste time on that movie's extras. :P

Of course, I thought Beauty and the Beast's "restoration" was kind of horrible. I would've loved everything, even Human Again (which was a far better additional scene than Morning Report), but they just had to ruin the coloring. Way too light, bright and yellow for my tastes.

Yeah, it would have been nice if they added Proud of Your Boy to the platinum release. It was a good song..but I guess it kind of messed up the story because of the whole mother thing. Oh well..

I don't really remember the other deleted songs..they weren't very good, in my opinion.

In terms of extras, i think Aladdin and Batb  Bambi was good, the storyboard meeting thing was good, but apart from that i cant really remember much from that release
