The 40-Year Old Virgin - Hilarious, although it was really, really pushing the envelope for acceptably crude... maybe too much
Center Stage - This one was forced on me. Good for a few laughs (at the movie's expense), but a pretty vapid film.
And an attempt at Mr. & Mrs. Smith at a friend's apartment, who had a bootleg DVD of it, but it cut out 3/4 of the way through.

I'm not a big fan of Blade Runner (and I've only seen it once properly, although I was probably too young to appreciate it) but as a film is/was a trendsetter. The bleak, corporate-centric vision of the future presented in Blade Runner was the first time this, much more likely, prediction of the future was shown. While such future-scapes are now common in Sci-Fi, Blade Runner was the first time these ideas were presented properly on the big screen. The production design itself is/was utterly groundbreaking. After Blade Runner, movies showing a future Earth stopped being all clean and shiny and became all dark and gritty.DisneyFan 2000 wrote:Blade Runner - To be honest, I can't see what's all the hype about. It's basically a straight-forward action / sci-fi flick. Don't get me wrong, it's good fun, but nothing special.
If it wasn't for Blade Runner, films such as I, Robot or RoboCop wouldn't exist.

Actually, Star Wars was the first of the "dirty" sci-fi. Lucas says so in his commentary of A New Hope. And even so, I don't think those reasons are enough to say this is a 'good' movie. Revolutionary? Sure... I can appreciate ground breaking work when I see it, but the movie (plot, acting etc) is not of THE best. I've seen better, I've seen worse. This is somewhere in the middle. Classic? Hardly in my opinion...
That's my take on it...

I saw Get Shorty. I imagine that it is a fairly accurate portrayal of Hollywood-types. I'm wondering if I should rent Be Cool. Is it worth it?
Buffy: We have a marching jazz band?
Oz: Yeah, but, you know, since the best jazz is improvisational, we'd be going off in all directions, banging into floats... scary.

The Brain That Woud't Die (If you need to laugh, laugh now). It's this movie about this guy and his girlfriend who get into a car accident. The guy survives without a strach but she decapitated. So her takes her head, goes to his friend house who happens to have a derformed hand, and since their both doctors, the somehow make her alive again but without her body. So the guy looks for a body for his girlfriend. Oh, did mention that there a monster looked in small room in the house which the bodyless girl is staying? Makes the movie way more intresting!
But seriously, I didn't like this movie at all. It was very disturbing and you're talking to a girl who rarely is dusturbed. I saw it on the MST3K disk and as much as love MST3K, the episode wasn't very funny. Oh well.

My bootlegging DVD-loving friends won over a majority again, and this time it was:
Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story...
It's absolutely hilarious, and very well done, although I don't really care for the "We're not on DVD, so we can say the f word 100 times" attitude.

The Pink Panther Stikes Again: The funniest Pink Panther film IMO and one of the funniest films ever made. In every viewing in every way it gets better and better!
I also loved this line, "Oh Kato my little yellow friend!" How did MGM get away with that?
10/10

Came back yesterday from Crash - Well, I am disappointed. I expected something much more serious than what I saw. The whole theme of racism just felt forced, and there were too many stories going on at once, leading me to not care about any of them. Strong points are this director actually got Sandra to act good for a change (same goes for Brandon)! Overall, only so-so....
I give it a 7/10 for effort, good acting and nice dialouge.

Beauty Shop - Extremely funny movie! I haven't laughed so hard in a long time!
Darkness - A little sloppy at the end, but over all IMO a pretty scary movie.
