Purchasing OOP DVD's from Blockbuster?

Is it $14 for ALL single-disc dvd's regardless of theor status?

I don't rent or go to Blockbuster, but I was in one a couple of weeks ago with a friend from school and noticed a couple of very high sought after oop criterion titles that Id make a killing off for only $14!

Is this a universal policy, any Blockbuster, any title?

Also, why do you have to keep the movie for 14 days... are you paying late charges on top of the sale price?

Okay, the price of the movie isn't fixed, it'll range in price. I've bought a couple for $9.99, others for $26.99. It depends on the movie itself (The sales reciept will tell you the purchase price of it). Late fees have been eliminated in Canada and the U.S. (and possibly elsewhere, though I'm not positive), and that's why you're given the opportunity to pay for it after the 14 days. You can't purchase it up front.

27186, as I stated, it's Blockbuster's own policy, if they want to shoot themselves in the foot doing it, I say let them. They should have thought it out a little better before implementing it, and now it's too late for them. And I guarentee you I'm not the only collector out there doing this, Blockbuster has lost a lot of titles because of this policy. Eventually they'll get the hint and end it.

I went and rented Snow White.

But I didn't get any receipt for it, so I can't tell about their policies.

... when I rented it I didn't say anything because I did get something.... but it was a certificate for a free rental, and I thought it was the receipt.

So what can I do now? It's not like I can call them and ask them because they're not going to tell me.

it is usually the MSRP cost of the title on the day of rental....some of the old disney disc msrp was 34.99, and thats what a used copy will cost you....however some stores give them at a much more fair price. YMMV, just shop around.

Yeah. For me Snow White will cost about $21.00.

Just called Disney and they will send me a new Beauty & the Beast slip cover. A very nice lady named Bonnie answered. Also I am going to get a disk exchange for Snow White Platinum Edition, but I need to send them my old one. The old one was a Block Buster rental, but I bought it for the MSRP. Do you think if I show them my recipt for it they will give me the DVDs because if I didn't they would think I stole them or something.

Also for anyone who is not sure of what to say here is a transcript of what was said between Bonnie and I:
Me: Hello, a few years ago I purhcased Beauty & the Beast Platinum Edition and Snow White Platinum Editon. We recently moved (not true) and both DVDs were damaged.

Bonnie: Okay, so you previously owned these?

Me: Yes (You have to say you owned them and they were damaged)

Bonnie: Okay, so what exactly do you need Jacob?

Me: A new slip cover for Beatuy & the Beast slip cover and two replacement disks for Snow White.

Bonnie: Okay, well we will send you the slip cover, but before we send you the replacement disks you must first send us the damaged ones to verify they are authentic.

Me: Okay, I will do that in a few weeks.

Me: Thanks for your time.

Bonnie: No thank-you for being a Disney customer. Would you like to hear about our up-coming titles?

buying DVD from blockbuster is the worst thing you can do when i use to work there we would get DVDs with crap on it. it was disgusting! if you want the B&B dvd and it look good enough to spend $14 go for it. DVDs at blockbuster get really scratched after they are unviewable they were broken and tossed so might as well save that DVD from a bad fate! make sure than when you pay $14 you request the original package! you are allowed to take the original case and artwork! so don't take no for an answer!

Everyone had their own opinion. Personally, it is a smart thing I think. Blokbuster had it coming and it is their mistake..

I don't like the thought of buying dvds from blockbuster. One time I opened a dvd, and the disc was all chewed up!

Okay, you can't purchase it up front. You have to rent it and hold onto it past the 14 Days. Until that point you won't get the cover box. On the 15th day you take it back and inform them you are buying it and want the cover box. They will go to the back and retrieve a box for you. Then you pay for it and it's yours

but you don't have to come back on the 15th day to pay for the DVD. You can come back any time after the 14th day? And you pay for the DVD plus the restocking fee?

I really just don't believe all these nightmare stories I hear about buying used DVDs. I really don't. I have bought dozens of used DVDs from several rental store outlets for vary cheap ($5) and none of them have ever been remotely damaged. Scratched, maybe, but a few scratches will not prevent a DVD from working properly. I doubt it's coincidence that EVER DVD I've bought is perfectly playable...

You got both of them for $21? Thats a good deal. I'm going to go check out Blockbuster this weekend.

I've bought some used DVDs before and its hit and miss on if you get a good disc. I've found that local video stores are better at getting a good disc than places like Blockbuster. The only bad thing is most of these stores only stock Fullscreen.

You know, it's one thing to take advantage of Blockbuster's policy by purchasing these used DVDs--you're buying a used product just like you could off eBay or at a used DVD store--but then to call Disney and blatantly lie about previously owning them and them being damaged in your non-existent move so you can get brand new discs? That's pretty dirty, if you ask me (which I realize you didn't--just chiming in with my humble opinions here).

I realize that legitimate copies of OOP titles are hard to come by at a decent price, and I sympathize with those who have to pay the higher prices (I recently bought 4 OOP titles on eBay), but that's the price you pay if you didn't buy the titles during their release period, whatever the reason may be.

I also realize that Disney is a big corporation and can most likely easily eat the cost of the discs, but that's not the issue here. It angers me to see not just such blatant dishonesty, but advertising it and seemingly boasting about it.

You've heard enough from me, so I'll end here. In any case, I'm glad you get to own two wonderful movies, I just don't agree with the way you're going about it.
