I was told this news today by someone at Disney DVD-the Frank and Ollie release scheduled for Oct. 7 is supposed to be a "Disney Exclusive" release, meaning the DVD is going to be for sale only in the Disney Movie Club and the Parks. I asked about the Disney Stores and the lady I spoke with told me she didn't think even they would carry it. (not surprising!)
I am going to check with the Disney Movie Club and see what they know. Hope this information is helpful.
Don't be silly Chernabog. It's an in-depth look at the making of Disney's animated classics presented as a long continuous documentary (with additional special features), rather than being split into 45 2-3 minute segments and an all new song "The Wonderful World of Frank and Ollie" sung by The Jump-Teens (or A-5).
American only appeal has nothing to do with it. Disney don't think anything like this will appeal to anyone (anyone worth bothering with anyhow), therefore the limited release (and the Lion King 'fluff').
Still, I suppose it will get a general release one day. I'm still waiting for the Walt Disney disc to get a general release (it will probably be changed for the 'mainstream' market - "Build Disneyland" and "Ride the Train to the Park Opening" set-top games anyone?)
Teehee... gee, I wonder if that was a tongue-in-cheek riff, Netty?
Well, if it is only available through places like the Disney Movie Club, then they'd better get their asses rolling in putting it up online - only the old vhs is available so far. O_o
I'm gonna check out the Mall of America's Disney Store anyways - anything before running off to over-priced eBay.

Hmmm...it makes sense that it would be a limited release, but still I cannot imagine that it would not be available through Disney Stores, Amazon UK and the like for international customers.
Looks like I may end up with my copy through the DMC.

If you think THAT'S bad, try ordering it from amazon.com

I would get it from Amazon.com, but I doubt they will get it... They didn't get the "Walt" DVD, and I don't think it will be a different case with this one.
What Carr was referring to is what comes up when you search for "Frank and Ollie" on DVD. It's funny. Check it out. What the connection is? I can't figure it out.

Oh, now I get it!!!
Yes, what the heck does "Mad Max" has to do with "Frank & Ollie"?!
Methinks the Amazon listings've gone a bit screwy... look at the product details!! It's a hideous mutation of both vhs and dvd information... O_o
I didn't know that "Region 1 tapes" existed!

This news sucks - I was looking forward to just being able to go to Best Buy and pick it up. I'm not a member of the Disney Movie Club, but I'm going to Disneyland in late October so hopefully I'll see it there for a reasonable price.
I called the Disney Movie Club this morning to try and pre-order. I was told their system told them they had none in stock so therefore wouldn't let me pre-order. I was told to call again Monday or Tuesday of next week. Also, it seems SOME Disney Stores MIGHT carry this DVD, like the Walt DVD last year. I assume that means larger stores as mine here in Middle TN. didn't have it or even know what I was trying to buy. I ended up finding the Walt DVD at the Disney Store in Times Square-I just called the one I thought might be large and hit the jackpot. Disney Stores will ship-it's just very expensive.

Thanks a lot MMBoy! I'm pleased you are trying to help me, but right now I'm saving money for the Treasures, the January SEs and some other Brazilian releases. And the real matter is, when imported products arrive in Brazil, I have to pay a tax (60% of the final price). That really sucks!
Well, anyway, thanks for trying to help, MMBoy!
