I know, why would anyone want a used rental DVD, it's just like someone giving you their ABC gum (already been chewed). lol Its funny about the disk replacement thing because it is $6.50 to replace a disk. On average a Disney DVD cost maybe $26.00 (SRP, Strawberies, Block Buster, etc) so you are paying about $20.00 for just a case and disk art!!

If said ABC gum was incredibly rare and I needed a copy for my collection, then yes, I'd take it. These discs aren't always in the condition people describe them as. I have never had a problem with a blockbuster disc, and besides, you rent it first, watch it to make sure everything is good with it before purchasing.Lazario wrote:I know, why would anyone want a used rental DVD, it's just like someone giving you their ABC gum (already been chewed). Jafar, If you read the fine print under their "No Late Fees" Policy it is there that you'll find the option to purchase or pay a "Restocking Fee" if the movie is returned after 14 days.
Also, you must remember that this may not be effect in your area. It took effect in America first, then came up here to Canada several months later, so keep that in mind.
Cheers!

Ok. Would it be best to buy the DVD when returning or buy it up front? And if they have the cases they will give it to us? My Block Buster only has that one cover art of the DVD will they still give it? Since there are three more of them maybe they have the actual DVDs w/ cases in the back store room?

Okay, you can't purchase it up front. You have to rent it and hold onto it past the 14 Days. Until that point you won't get the cover box. On the 15th day you take it back and inform them you are buying it and want the cover box. They will go to the back and retrieve a box for you. Then you pay for it and it's yours
Cheers!

When you take it back and purchase the DVD, you get the original case if they have it (99% of the time they do)
No matter how many copies of the movie they have, they'll let you buy it, they have to, it's their policy
You get the disc replacement the same way you would any other disc. I've already done it with one Disney disc I bought in this exact same manner (Silly Symphonies)
And finally, I say go for it. It's their own stupid policy, and if they want to shoot themselves in the foot, I say let them. I've taken advantage of this policy to buy several out of print and impossible to find DVDs. So far I've purchased Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition, Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies, From Russia With Love, You Only Live Twice, Octopussy, Diamonds Are Forever and A View To A Kill (And possibly Mario Party 6, I've had it out for about 2 months now, so my girlfriend and I will probably just split the cost on buying it)
That is really a dumb-ass selfish thing to do!!!

Everyone had their own opinion. Personally, it is a smart thing I think. Blokbuster had it coming and it is their mistake..

Is it $14 for ALL single-disc dvd's regardless of theor status?
I don't rent or go to Blockbuster, but I was in one a couple of weeks ago with a friend from school and noticed a couple of very high sought after oop criterion titles that Id make a killing off for only $14!
Is this a universal policy, any Blockbuster, any title?
Also, why do you have to keep the movie for 14 days... are you paying late charges on top of the sale price?

I don't know if it would be the same but, I rented a ps2 game from blockbuster, I liked it so they sold it to me. However they told me they do not have the orginal cases for the games. ie... put them in the trash. So if you want the orginal case ask first.........On the new rel. dvd they now give you the orginal case when you rent it so if you want to keep it you will have it.
