I think what karlsen meant is that if Oprah was to be involved with the Song of the South DVD, people would probably be reluctant to claim racism and take up a fight.Prince Eric wrote:Her project of racism? Whatever do you mean?karlsen wrote:Someone at JimHillMedia wrote a list over posible hosts and I found Oprah Winfrey realy interesting.
Would anybody go out and critisice her project of racism?

Re: Song of The South DVD in '06!!!
Just because some random website says it may be coming, doesn't necessarily mean it is. Wait for the official Press Release from Disney before claiming that it's officialTom in North Carolina wrote:It's official:

Song of the South release? (Sorry, kids, just rumors...)
this is from thedigitalbits.com:
How's this for a surprise? The always interesting http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles ... ia websiteclaims that Disney is preparing to finally release its controversial Song of the South on DVD in 2006. Consider that Rumor Mill worthy until the studio officially confirms it, but we think it's about damn time. We've never understood the desire some have for this film to simply disappear. Native Americans were played by white guys with red-painted faces in many classic Hollywood films, and black slaves were often depicted as stupid or content with their lot in life. It's absolutely a sad, ugly part of Hollywood's legacy. But rather than wishing films like Song of the South out of existence, why not turn them into an opportunity to tackle those important issues head on? Reach out to all sides, bring people into the process and donate a portion (or all) of the profits to appropriate charities and civic groups. History, film history included, is what it is... good and bad, warts and all. Seems to us that you've gotta appreciate the good and confront the bad head on to really learn any truly valuable lessons from the past. Anyway, that's just our opinion. With any luck it'll be an interesting special edition.

Well with the abundance of Bambidom filling the first page, I think we can forgive you this time.

Hey, I'm all about Bambi, but after I watch it the first time tomorrow, I'll realize how much I hyped it up for myself, only for myself to be disappointed (not unlike Prom) [hmm..that's an interesting comparison...let's compare Bambi to Senior Prom...]awallaceunc wrote:Well with the abundance of Bambidom filling the first page, I think we can forgive you this time.![]()

Regardless, SotS is way more intriguing due to the contreversy, whether or not it's that shockingly offensive or whatever...
Also, I'm a n00b, cut me some slack

Actually, from what I've seen and heard from Oprah, she isn't the epitome of racial harmony either. She's been caught on record as wanting "only a black publicist," etc. I just wish we lived in a world that judges people on their actions, and not on the color of the skin, good or bad.Luke wrote:I think what karlsen meant is that if Oprah was to be involved with the Song of the South DVD, people would probably be reluctant to claim racism and take up a fight.Prince Eric wrote: Her project of racism? That may be true, but it's not the perception most people have of her. I think Whoopi Goldberg would be a better choice. Oprah has a tendency to talk down.

I agree and also Whoopi has more relevance as she has starred in a couple of Disney films. And I abhor Oprah, I mean how has she made that much money? And that publicity stunt with the cars!awallaceunc wrote:That may be true, but it's not the perception most people have of her. I think Whoopi Goldberg would be a better choice. Song of the South
I just read on the site that the Song of the South 60th Anniversary DVD will be released soon. I heard that this movie would not be released on DVD in the U.S. because it depicted a happy slave. Did anyone else hear that?
