Your Disney animated classics collection: Discussion

Post by Evil Genie Jafar »

I suggest that on this post we talk on how are we doing with our animated classics collections. Let's talk about the ones we're missing, which PE are we looking forward the most to add, how we just found and bought the most recent one, the movies we'll be upgrading, the ones that not...

Everything you want to discuss about your collection on the animated classics!

- My Disney collection is being on display, on a couple Disney DVD shelves that I got from the DMC at $5 each (each one holds 20 DVDS and fit perfectly with the all the movies I want).

- Recently I organized my DVDS with spaces in between according to the DVD that's going to fit there.

- The movies that I need to finish my collection are: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, The Fox and the Hound, Oliver and Company, The Rescuers, Robin Hood and Snow White.

- I will not be upgrading Sleeping Beauty, Peter Pan, Lilo and Stitch or Tarzan. Quite happy with each edition.

- The PE I'm looking forward the most are: The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp and Pinochio (haven't seen the last 3 in quite some time but I'll bet I'll like them better than Jungle Book, and 101 Dalmatians)

- For the new format, the only movies I'll be upgrading are: Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Mulan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I have none of the animated classics on DVD yet. But as for VHS, I just ordered Melody Time, so that's on it's way. But I have everything up to The Hunchback of Notre Dame except Saludos Amigos and Make Mine Music. They're all side-by-side in 2 rows.

This is going to sound funny, but I was looking through Amazon's Used & New copies of Disney's platinum edition of The Lion King, and it seems to still be fairly in-print. Is there a reason for that?

There are most places where you can still find it online; and if you're lucky in some stores.

In the case of the sequels: I'd go to several stores and seen a couple of Lion King 1 1/2 and plenty of Simba's Pride.

Yeah but the Sleeping Beauty DVD was released after that, right? That's really out of print right now, yet Lion King is not so out of print.

I have 25 of the 44 (really 43 if you don't count Cinderella) 2D animated features on dvd. There are about 10 that will only collect dust if I buy them..so I'd rather not buy them at all.

My dad said that he was going to buy Toy Story 2 (I can't wait for the December release), Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and 101 Dalmatians for me online..He told me that they're in the mail and that he hasn't gotten them yet..also he told me not to buy "any old Disney movies". He's not really the type who would lie about something like this, so I'm hoping that I get those in the mail soon.

There are only 2 Disney dvds that are in stores that I want: The Great Mouse Detective and Hercules. There are actually 3 if you count Fantasia 2000..I saw that in Virgin Records 3 weeks ago..I'm hoping that it's still there.

I was also considering buying The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, The Lion King 1 1/2, and Mulan 2.

Have any of you in the midwest seen Fantasia in stores??

Yep. I know, that's why I asked.

So yeah..I saw Fantasia 2000 in Virgin Records downtown in late July, and I was thinking "Wow, I thought this was out of print!", but I guess it can still be found. I was wondering if any of you have spotted Fantasia (or the Fantasia anthology) anywhere in stores..I'll buy one if it's used, too.

Let's see...I've got:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Fantasia
Pinocchio (Limited Issue)
Dumbo
Three Caballeros
Make Mine Music
Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad
Alice in Wonderland (Gold Collection)
Peter Pan (Limited Issue and Special Edition)
Lady and the Tramp
101 Dalmations
Sword in the Stone
Mary Poppins (Gold Collection)...but maybe this one doesn't count right? Because it's not and "animated classic"...but it's still one of my favorite movies of all time...and probably me favorite Disney movie pretty much ever, so I like to include it in the top tier here...
Jungle Book
Aristocats
Robin Hood
Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Black Cauldron
Oliver & Company
Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Fantasia 2000

...and so that means I still need:

Bambi
Saludos Amigos
Fun and Fancy Free
Melody Time
Cinderella
Sleeping Beauty
Rescuers
Fox and the Hound
Great Mouse Detective
Rescuers Down Under
Aladdin
Lion King
Pocahontas
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Hercules
Mulan
Tarzan
Emperor's New Groove
Atlantis
Lilo & Stitch
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Home on the Range

In the last few years I haven't had any money to spend on DVDs anymore and so that's why I don't have any releases after Beauty and the Beast...too poor right now...so hopefully when I'm rolling in dough again, all the out of print titles won't be going to for too much so I can complete the collection...

...and I supposed I would need to buy the Masterpiece Alice in Wonderland and any new Platinum Editions of the Limited Issue movies I already have (for obsessive collecting purposes only).

My whole DVD collection is alphabetical so my Disney DVDs are mixed in with all the rest in proper alphabetical order...101 Dalmations being in the 'O' section of course, since that's they way it's supposed to be (none of these sissy number sections...though I suppose if I had them all it would be nice to separate them and put them in chronological order.

I don't suppose there is a specific PE I am looking forward to the most, since I haven't bought any recent ones, but the my fav Disney movies that I have yet to purchase are probablygoi Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty so when I've got cash again I'll buy those first, as well as Rescuers, that one is pretty awesome too...

...and as far as the most recent...well it was a long time ago, but it was the Fantasia Anthology and Toy Story Toybox sets because they were going out of print and so I knew that I needed to buy them before they would cost me millions of monies...but that was already two Januarys ago or something...so a long time...and since then other stuff has gone out of print like all those Paltinum Edition Gift Sets that looked pretty awesome, so I suppose I'll be paying with internal organs for those in the future.

I'm kind of pissed off that I only bought the Limited Issue ones that I did, and not Mulan, Hercules, and Lion King 2 when they were available in that original box set, but back then when I was just starting on DVDs I was happy to only get the ones that I really wanted and loved, but now I would definitely like to have the whole Disney collection, and even those three are available in new versions now, it would have been nice to have all the original versions, since I have most of them.

That's my Disney DVD history...pretty exhaustive, huh?

WOW, Rolph! That's pretty impressive to have every release. Do you even have both the Limited Issue and the Gold Collection packagings of Pinocchio and all 4 (or it might even be 5) releases/repackagings of A Bug's Life...because if you do then you would definitely be my hero!

Post a pic of the whole collection all in a row!
