But if that was the case, why would they have passes for other content from that same disc that the L. Frank Baum documentary will appear on? :?

That's true. The vintage Oz films that share disc three with the Baum documentary were classified by the BBFC, so either Play.com has yet to add the 3-Disc to their listings, so WB's going to try the impossible and cram all the Oz films onto disc two (?!).

We'll probably get a DVD18. We're getting them for Warner TV boxsets (such as Wonder Woman, which gets them in the US) as well as sets that seem to have dropped DVD18s in America (such as the new ER sets).

Failing that, the 3 disc could be a store exclusive, such as HMV. They seem to get into bed with Warners UK a lot.

In that case we could say hello to a set with a ÂŁ49.99 RRP, that gets not promotion and no one is aware of its existence!

The Wizard of Oz DVD Sets

Post by Disney Duster »

OH MY GOSH!!! WOOOOWWWW!!!!! This is all amazing news! THANK YOU DISNEYKID! I have a feeling the whole trailer isn't showing every restored scene... It's a shame I'll be spending so much of my money on the Cinderella Gift Set and other things, because I really want this! Maybe I will be able to afford it...

However, that really sucks for the U.K.! I really hope they offer the 3-disc set! I think it's really bad how certain countries get all these major exclusives and other countries get gyped! This kind of thing happens all the time... I know a lot of other countries aren't getting the Cinderella Gift Set from Disney.

But anyway, all this Wizard of Oz news is still awesome-no, ozome! And thank God you can order things from other countries!

Oh my, Mr HMV is having a shocking love affair with the Warner Brothers! I think that I may start a heat thread on this:

"Mr HMV shocks the nation!"

:p

Anyway, back on the topic of high prices, store exclusives etc, I still think that it's a good thing to get the Region 1 3 disc set no matter if a Region 2 equivalent pops up. It will naturally be cheaper importing, and the litographs/replications probably won't feature, plus (don't call me a dork when I say this, it's a joke ;) ) you can listen to a darker side of the moon perfectly whilst watching thanks to no minor speedup.

No need to worry! :D :D We are getting both editions

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=58232

Warner Home Video have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of of two sparkling new editions of The Wizard of Oz for 7th November 2005. The two versions - a Two-Disc Special Edition and a Three-Disc Collector’s Edition, are bonus-packed DVD treasures which would complete all DVD collections.

And just after I placed an order for the Region 1 edition. To tell the truth, it'll probably be better for me anyway as I'll be off for the week it comes out in America, so I can dig into the set as much as possible in one go.

Plus, I'll say it before and I'll say it again, without minor speedup like a Region 2 disc, I can have fun with this...

Here's some (very) high-res artwork of the back of the 3-Disc Collector's Edition cover:

Appropriately classy and even a little moody thanks to the black. I love it. :D

Yup, though I stumbled across it when someone at HomeTheaterForum.com linked to the site. That's how I usually find stuff on the net: taking credit on this board for what other people have posted on other boards. :D ;)

The Wizard of Oz DVD

Post by Disney Duster »

That's okay, Disneykid. Sometimes I post about a bunch of news I heard from other sources like Animated News. By the way, that is a very nice new animated avatar you have! Where'd you get that? It's very cool!

This is excellent news. I love The Wizard of Oz and will definitely be buying the 3-disc set. The cover art for both sets is incredibly classy and well-done.

Thank you for the good news and information, disneykid!

It was a friend of a friend type of deal. One of my friends was telling me that no one on her LiveJournal buddy list should be allowed to have a Mad Hatter icon except for me because it throws her off. When I asked her who else had one, she pointed me to the LJ of a friend of hers who had several spiffy Alice icons, all of which were taken from the new Masterpiece restoration. Well, there was one that wasn't. I won't spoil the surprise for you, but as soon as I grow tired of this icon (which will be in another 2 years ;)), I'll switch to the one I'm talking about.

Thanks to Disneykid we have a pic of the back of the art for the 3-Disc set.....BUT I COULD OF SWORE it was going to look different (not that this one posted above is bad)!!! When Disneykid post up the video for the disc, I paused the video to where they spin the 3 Disc set, and I saw the whole cast on the back....which looked sweet!!

Yeah, I saw that, too, but I guess it was just a place holder (I also noticed in the trailer that the back cover had no text whatsoever, which is very unlikely). I really like this back art, though, because it's not constricted to one scene (or an overused publicity photo). It really looks like Dorothy's showcasing all of the bonus material for you.

Well, looks like I was right about the UK 3 disc set. It's an HMV exclusive.
DVDReviewer wrote:If you’re wondering whatever happened to Warner Home Video's three-disc Collectors’ Edition of The Wizard Of Oz, then look no further than the High Street. UK fans are still getting both the two-disc Special Edition (the one with the ruby slippers on the front) and the three-disc Collectors’ Edition (with the Wicked Witch on the front), it’s just that the three-disc will be an HMV exclusive. The company has yet to confirm availability and price, but the release will be the latest in a line of exclusive releases that the high street chain has set up with the major Hollywood Studios.
So, don't expect a discount on this release. Everyone in the UK who wants the 3 disc set should get it from America.
