Ok. To sum it up quickly it is a good movie, great video, typical sound (2.0 I believe) and the extras are pretty basic. No frills. If you have seen the movie and like it then get it. If you have seen the movie and it is okay and you have a few bucks lieing around then why not? If you don't like the movie then I don't know why you are even reading this thread. lol
Wants Muppet Babies on DVD!!
Hopefully if Duckales and Rescue Rangers sell well we will get it!! Don't forget Gummi Bears!

Im a big fan of the movie so here's pretty much what's on the DVD:
-widescreen presentation(most of the movie is still dark, even for a movie set at night, no picture enhancements on this disc)
-dolby digital 2.0 (nothing too exciting, the effects and songs do sound better though, but if you dont have a home theatre, the only difference between it and the VHS is clarity)
-menus
-scene selection
-english subtitles
it's a horrible dvd release, IMO. there is so much amazing behind the scenes footage out there (a show called "Movie Magic" had 3 episodes full!) and Disney didn't use a piece of it! i really hope to see a special edition, ASAP! they could have done much better on this.
if you still want to buy it, the only thing your getting is the movie. no features, not even a different language! but i'm pretty sure it's about $7 at wal-mart...
i hate to sound so negative about this movie, cause its among my all time favourites, but the DVD is the definition of barebones!

"This big, fat theatrical bomb has a lot going for it. There's the three leads, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing three resurrected witches who wreak havoc on Salem, Massachusetts, 300 hundred years after they were hung. There's music, special effects, and magic. There's a surprisingly horror-filled plot. Whoops, hold up on that last one. It's probably the extremes that this film goes to (displaying a Disney label), such as the witches sucking the life out of a little girl in the first five minutes, that put the brakes on any success for Hocus Pocus. Older children, however, in the 8 and up range should get a kick out of all the weird goings-on. It's a good measure of Halloween thrills and chills." --Keith Simanton --This text refers to the VHS Tape edition.

Buffy: We have a marching jazz band?
Oz: Yeah, but, you know, since the best jazz is improvisational, we'd be going off in all directions, banging into floats... scary.

The first time I saw this movie I thought it was great. But I saw it in like 1994, when I didn't know what I know now. What's great about the movie? The music score, the costumes, special effects. What's wrong with the movie? Story, Bette Midler's over-hammy performance, and that whole element of- why should we care? It's not one of those movies everyone can enjoy. Maybe the critics killed it. But then again, the critics also had a field day with Jumanji and that was a huge hit.
Hocus Pocus is not a great movie. It's okay though.

I like the movie also. I haven't picked it up yet because I am waiting and hoping that they release this again with an Anamorphic transfer.

I remember this movie fondly.
We first borrowed it from an old mom&pop video store, and taped it onto a blank VHS. Then a year or so later, my mom decided that it was a bad movie because it dealt with witchcraft, so taped over it with Mrs. Doubtfire. A couple years after that, they were showing it on ABC under the Magical World of Disney banner (before WWoD started up again), and I taped it, and that's the copy we've had ever since. I'd definitely buy this on DVD, but only if it were a better edition.

I love Hocus Pocus (possibly my favorite Halloween movie) and really hope it gets Special Edition treatment. It's a popular enough title to support it. (I've noticed that HP has been discounted in a lot of stores lately, but as a rerelease wouldn't come until next fall at the earliest, it's probably not related to that). I remember scenes included in the trailer that didn't make it to the movie... including one where the witches go grocery shopping and try to find the kids in the store. I have always wanted to see that scene.
I'd also like to see them release the complete score + soundtrack (and while they're at it, how 'bout a complete score for The Lion King
).

I love this movie. There aren't too many live-action Disney movies I like, but this one makes it in the top for me. I didn't think Bette Midler did a bad part and I loved all the costumes. Of course, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, but it was a comedy. Its whole point was to make you laugh. Why criticize it for not doing more than it was made to do?

To see the trailer, click on Movies in the first drop down menu on the left side of the screen and then click on the "Trailer" link.
It does contain the grocery store scene.
